View Full Version : 200-220 hp CA, where to start?

I am about to order my CA motor. I have the money but I am going on vacation here soon and do not want to order it while I will be away.
I hold a decent knowledge on the SR and KA motors. But know next to nothing about building performance in a CA motor.
My goal is to pull 200-220hp out of the CA. I am not looking to be in any magazine or anything big. I just want a really fun motor in a car I have already come to adore and love.
Can some people give me some ideas on where to start, and where hidden power can be pulled out of this motor. I know alot of setups are just personal preferences but let me hear them so that I can get an idea of where I wish to head when I drop my motor into my fast back.

That is what I am asking about.

I know this is probably a Newb question and I apologize about that. But I tried doing a search for parts in which people have found generated the most power. If there is such a thread please just direct me to it. But if not could anyone please tell said info to me. It would be greatly welcomed.

You wont find much here on zilvia, go to the CA section on nico and they will help you out. But im in the same boat as you and this is what im doing for 200-220whp. Basicly all you need is the bolt ons (Intake, dp, high flow cat, exhaust, bov, etc), a SR20 T25 setup (They go for under $200), and boost like 10psi.

yeah, i'm doing the same thing... after i get my strawberry face on. for the swap i already have a stock sr t25, GReddy type s bov, gutted cat, and the n1 dual. i'll probably go with the ebay stainless steel d/p and outlet pipe ordeal, and get a new timing belt from Nissan. i'ma run 10-12 psi and leave it at that. Good luck with your swap.

you don't even need an SR T25 for 220WHP. with some tuning from an SAFC you can run the stock turbo up to 14 psi with 3" DP,test pipe, cat-back, FMIC and you'll be sitting pretty at about 210-ish WHP.

the stockT25 turbo on CA will run out of breath and just spin hot air when push over 10-12 psi. if u looking for good a liliable 220 then SR T25, S-AFC and the usual bolt-on will get u there w/ some tuning.
so SR T25, FMIC or upgrade S-MIC, 3" turbo back exhaust, good quality Air filter. and boost controller combo. will get u there. C

or, why don't you just get the sr? you'll have that stock. once you add in the money of parts and tuning, you'll have come to pretty close to the cost of a stock sr. please don't tell me you're going ca to be different.

the CA T25 can do 14 psi no problem.

I dunno man, my setup has been pretty cheap so far...
$1300 for CA18 Clip
$175 for SR20 T25 setup (Turbo, lines, inlet, and outlet)
$450 for 2.5" dp, gutted cat, and custom 3" exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler
$100 for M's Intake (Intake can be found cheaper but this one came with spair maf)
$250 for ARC Side Mount
$200 for HKS BOV (Can be found a lot cheaper, I wanted a brand new one)
Total=$2,475
I still need to buy a boost gauge and hks actuator but the priece will still be about the same as a SR20DET clip. But a stock SR20 doesnt put down 200-220whp.

Because I want a CA18. I have taken a ride in both a CA 240 and a SR 240. I adored both, but I just loved the way the CA pulled, I fell in love with the torque band right off the bat.

I just finished building a car for a customer that was ca. Had a sr turbo, down pipe, proff exhaust, intake, and it dynoed 223.7 on 13.5 psi which beat all the sr's at the dyno day, other then one running the same set up at 14psi with a fmic, that hit 225rwhp. Here is the car that I am talking of.

what IC is he using? he's asking for trouble using that stock sidemount for any more than 10psi.

first off, a sr clip are around $1,000 more. secondly, if something parts goes wrong... if its not a counterpart of the fwd sr... you basicly have to get a longblock or import parts from japan for that matter. for a ca18det, you can get parts from nissan, nappa, autozone, advance, etc. like i said, i'll have everything i need for the swap except a downpipe, in which i'll ebay that. i'm thinking of maybe an arc sidemount, but dnno if will be worth it.

thats not so true. side-mounts can handle 12-14 respectivly if your rad. is working like it should.

hmm 220 wheel can be easily achieved.
-z32 maf
-reflashed ecu(mines,www.norrisdesigns.com) some uKDM companies sell replacment ROM chips on ebay for specific tuning/modifications.
-3" downpipe
-3" 02 elbow
-3" exhaust
-turbo mani
-460cc RX-7 injectors(30.00 at pick n pull)
- t25/ gt25r/ t28/ gt2840r/ WHATEVER you want, im shure the sr turbo would be find and get you to the 220 makrk w/o a problem.
-FMIC. www.takakaira.co.jo . great place for ca18det parts.
**dont forget to replace those front and rear maine seals. ca16de cams will give you a minor boost up in mid range thru top end. definatly not worth the trouble of putting them in if you are expecting anything near aftermarket cams, you may see 5hp max.:(. Adecent headgastket and FMIC to add to that

lets see, MODED ca18 vs bone stock sr..for one the response would be a lot better , and the power band is quite different.. i dont think anyone buys ca18 to be differnt. most of us are poor individuals, some are in love with the motor, and the rest would rather not jump on the sr bandwagon.

I've been spending some time researching the CA18DET and from what I've gathered, the SR and CA motor don't differe much power wise when the same size turbo and cooler are used. Meaning both using SR turbo and sidemount. I think the difference was 2hp.
What I would really like to know is the reliability differences. The CA has the better head design, but I haven't found any reliable info on the bottom end.

CA bottom end can ussually handle about 350 hp iron block, total wieght is 20 KG less than SR. i think the only thing that should always be done, is to replace the head gasket, the stock headgasket is an old design and incorporates no o-rings to help seal it.

yeah, you two seem to have the facts down. thank you for pointing those 2 facts out. im shure that will clear up any missconeptions about ca. when using the sr SMIC, i believe u can use the hot pipe, but the coldpipe is rather ODD, nothing a exhasut shop cant fix! definatly reccomend it if you want to stay simple!
