The new Skylines gonna be using a twin turbo VQ motor. Its going to begin its duty in motosports as early as end of June, beg, of july. I wonder what happened to the twin turbo V8 they were planning on using globally? This might not be new to some of you, but I just saw a picture of the motor so thought I'd post anyways.

Dood, Sacrilege. How can they throw away the RB for a VQ??? Do you know what the displacement will be?

True though, but the RB definitely had a good run, maybe it is time for them to try something new. Hey, so long as it is still a monster, I'm not going to complain (mostly because I'll never be able to get one).

Yup, its gonna be a twin turbo version of the VQ. Actually it didnt say anything about the displacement, Just that it was a twin turbo V6 from the VQ family. How do I get a site to host my picture?

it was worse when they dropped the FJ for the stupid RB. that's why I never bought a new skyline. it was sacrilege.

If it's the engine that he's talking about, it is a 3.5 litre engine. I have mixed feelings right now, the RB was soooo great...but at the same time, I'm sure they do know what they are doing. They wouldn't go wrecking the good name of the Skyline...would they...please God don't let them!!!

I didn't really pick up on this before.... the new GT-R won't really be a Skyline AFAIK. It's branched off. The Skyline/ G35 will use the non turbo VQ35DE IIRC.

I don't think its a big deal about nissan changing the engine for the new skyline. They started out first the L-engine and then the FJ then the RB, now they're going to be using the VQ. Hey, maybe the next big change might be an electric motor(that would really suck)
AceInHole

electric motors have better power vs. weight though <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> but most of that power is at lower RPM's IIRC....

I think that the RB was a great motor too, but it was over a decade old and they needed something new. Since nissan is tryin to cut costs they are using their new award winning VQ35DE plus turbos. I think it will kill all.

the article I read somewhere said the engine code will be something to the tune of VQ35DETT I think it's a bad idea. The heart of the import tuner world is the I6. Remember how much it was to replace turbos on the 300zxTT? $1400. 15 hours of labor during which the engine had to be removed. That's the nice thing about working on a turbo I6 (I hear). The turbo system is easy to work on. Tuning 300zx's can get expensive. Want a turbo upgrade? Buy two. Want an intercooler upgrade, buy two. Exhaust? Pay a grand for the true dual. Twin turbo V6's suck. I think the move is a bad idea.

Yea the GTR's gonna be using the twin turbo VQ

the v6 twin turbos shouldn't be too bad since they're probably going to be garrett ball bearing turbos. About the cost, you probably won't even have to change the turbo for some extra power but if you're going to build a highpower GTR you're probably going to be doing the internals and if you have the cash like that, getting an extra turbo and intercooler probably won't seem alot to whoever ownes one. If you got the cash to get a new GTR you're probably loaded anyway.

Supposedly, a friend knows a guy in the UK with an R34 with the concept (prototype?) R35 engine, V8 twin turbo..dunno if its BS or not.

I bet the skyline engine isn't going to look anything like the other vq engines out already. also you know that the internals are going to be beefed up on the gtr.

Like I said.... the new Skyline will use a VG35DE, this is nothing new. The GTR's engine is what we should be worried about, which is speculated to be a twin turbo V8

Don't count it out. Alot of early speculation about the R35 had the rear wheels being powered by the VQ and the front wheels being powered by an independent electric motor. So don't think it isn't to far off. (remember the GT-R is pretty much all of nissan's gadget's on one car)

Yea im refering to the GTR motor. DJ Machine, I've heard the same almost. I think NIssan might use that motor (VQXXDETT) in the R34 to test it out on the track. We'll find out towards the beginning of June for sure though

Too bad that nissan didn't have the balls/money to create an all new I6. Like a nice 3.0 liter I6. As far as engines go, besides a V12, theres nothing more sexier than a turbo I6. But like I said earlier, nissan is trying to cut cost and not become bankrupt so I bet we get the VQ35DETT.

This is really great news, nissan is using thier (and quite possibly renaults) brains, that engine is a workhorse, and I want one in my s14 I think. I can probably at least make the damn thing lega, and that means that there will be performance parts like hell for it. It will look different, but you will be able to take the pistons, cams, connecting rods whatever and swap em, plus the manifols will all likely line up so twin turbo z's will pop up fast when it comes out I am sure. Nissan is very smart to do this, just like the 2.5 in there smaller cars, they are saving money and making great cars, soon they will be rich rich bastards and start bringing out new stuff again. But I want to see a vq fit in our cars, I am sure it can, it might be a little tall if anything, but nothing a new hood won't fix... and maybe a custom oilpan.

i am personally opposed to a v6 (or any non L-config engine, in that case) in a skyline or Z-car. nissan isnt staying true to their heritage by doing this.
on the other hand though, this is a very smart move for nissan. of course it'll mean a HUGE donor parts list that goes across alot of platforms. nissan will be able to get cars out of R&D faster and much cheaper. maintenance will be alot cheaper. and of course, we'll see all sorts of crazy performance creations, like a GTR engine in one of those new SUV's using the VQ, or in an altima

Thats exactly what I was thinking.. If they do.. GOOD GOD, can you imagine the aftermarket support you'll have for cars like the 350z? Can you say GTR TwinTurbo Kit for the 350Z.. Now that would be a Monster!
Well I don't especially like the idea of going to a V6 but at least they are going to a good one (VQ). My guess is that it will probably come in a variety of displacements like the current RB's and the other cars that currently use the VQ.

Taking a stance different from the constructors mentioned above, Nissan has chosen to start the year racing with modified versions of the 2001 Skyline GT-R. The reason for this was made clear earlier with the announcement that the manufacturer will be introducing a new twin-turbo V6 engine for the car around mid-season. The new engine, referred to as the "VQ," is expected to be ready for Round 4 or 5.
Even so, Erik Comas proved that the NISMO engineers didn't waste any time during the off-season, lapping the circuit at Fuji Speedway in 1'23.9 (unofficial) on February 14-15 at the first testing of the 2002 cars. This is about a second quicker than the best time recorded for a GT-R at the end of last year.
VQ - a new twin-turbo V6
Comas seemed satisfied with the car. "Chassis rigidity has improved. We were able to clock good lap times consistently with only adjustments to the aerodynamic setup."
Three Skyline GT-Rs will be entering the series, under the same team management as last year: Two cars by NISMO, with Erik Comas and Masami Kageyama driving the No.23 car and Michael Krumm and Satoshi Motoyama the No.22 car, and one car by TEAM IMPUL. Tetsuya Tanaka has joined up with Kazuyoshi Hoshino to drive the No.12 car, replacing last year's teammate, Motoyama.
