View Full Version : **CLOSED!!** Group Buy: True HID kits! **IN STOCK AND ACCEPTING PAYMENTS!!**

Hey guys. I've seen alot more interest in HID kits recently, and found a supplier that is willing to do a group buy. So, if there is enough interest, I will go through and host the buy.

Who: You will deal directly with me. I've been asked about my credentials. So here these are:
I'm a moderator here. I'm on every other board possible. I've been an active member for 3 years.
Here is my ebay feedback:
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=jeff240sx
That is 377 positive feedbacks from 345 unique users. 0 negatives. And I don't just buy stuff, I actually sell "ricer lights (hahaha!)" every day. I'm really not out to screw people, which is why I'm willing to put up the other 50% for the bulbs.

What: XD7 HID kits. These are on Ebay at $289 + $20 shipping. I can get down to $270 shipped for 10 sets. $260 for 15 sets. $255 for 20 sets, and $250 for 25+ sets.

http://www.gaontrading.com/images/XD7_1.jpg
http://xtremevision.biz/picts/prod2.jpg
This is a full kit, ready to install. I've installed one on a friend's Tahoe and it required no cutting, and was done in an hour. "They're crazy bright," according to him.

http://www.gaontrading.com/images/in.jpg
Included with the kit:
-HID 35W Lamp 2pcs
-Ballast 2pcs
-Starter 2pcs
-Cable Tie 12pcs
-Cable Set 2pcs
-Bracket for Ballast 2pcs
-Bracket for Starter 2pcs
-Bolt, Nut, Washer 14set
-1 Spare Fuse (15A)
-1 Installation Instructions (English)

Type | ARCVoltage | TestVoltage | Wattage | Life
H1 | 85±17 | 13.5 | 35±3 | min2000Hr
H4 | 85±17 | 13.5 | 35±3 | min2000Hr

Available in:
4100K - "Standard HID". +$10 over groupbuy price
http://www.gaontrading.com/images/xd7_extra.jpg
*Not exact pic. That's of 5000K, but you can see it's much more white than the others*
6500K - Blueish white. http://www.gaontrading.com/images/xd7_blue.jpg
7500K - White white. http://www.gaontrading.com/images/xd7_dia.jpg
8500K - Blue/violet. http://www.gaontrading.com/images/xd7_pre.jpg

These kits come with a 1 year warranty, available to the purchaser (Me). I've been around for 3 years. I'll be here for another year.

When: I am starting this now. I think that Dec 5th is a good stop date.

How: Once I get 10 confirmed buyers, I'll take a nonrefundable 50% deposit, and foot the other 50% (we're talking over $1000) myself, so that nobody feels uncomforable in this transaction. The shipment will take 30 days from the moment I place the order, plus or minus a few due to customs. If a buyer backs out, I am keeping the deposit, because I'm not losing $150 because someone would rather have a new steering wheel. If you can find another buyer for your set, have them give you the 50% deposit, and the other 50% to me and I'll release the bulbs.

If anyone is interested, let me know. I know that christmas is comming up, which is usually a good time for group buys. It's only 50% now, and 50% after the holidays (like I said, 30 days shipping).

do you know who actually makes the bulbs and ballasts?

http://www.gaontrading.com

The headlights are for H1 and H4, which are s14a and s14 bulbs, and the most popular sealed beam conversion for s13s.

']do you know how to go about converting it to work with the pop-up headlights of the s13?

What was your question?

Jeff240sx

i wonder if this company makes kits compatible with silvia s13's ?

S13 silvia front ends use an H1 bulb. I'll check tonight what bulb S15 front ends use.

A) Koukis are glass. B) I sell 6500K xenon lights on ebay, DOT approved. It's not a temperature rating as Kelvin implies, but rather a color.
C) HID kits use less wattage to make brighter light. I believe these are 35 or 37 watt bulbs. With half the current draw, wiring and housing heat issues are nonexistant.

Canada will be the same shipping price. It's only some paperwork I'd need to file.
I recommend whatever lights you think look good. I plan on getting 6500K myself. Lights are only illegal if they're obnoxious colors, like 12000K, or if the cop is having a bad day.

Dec 5th, 2 weeks. The good part about this is that you only pay 50% up front, and then have about 30 day to get the other 50% while the order is filled, shipped, goes through customs, and then I get them.

My friend Sean with his Tahoe has had them for 8 months installed. I'm heading over to get a pic right now. And with a 1-year warranty. These aren't crap, or I wouldn't be ordering a set too (I'm one of the three confirmed buyers).

You don't drill anything. It uses the same mounting as stock bulbs. And for normal s13s, you'll need a conversion kit. I'll do something for you guys, too :)

i had a hanabi 8000k hid kit before, and the hole in the little screw cap over where the bulb goes had to be made larger via a dremel to get the wires in

A regular bulb has the harness going to it. This simply has it's own harness going to it. There was no drilling on the Tahoe install.

I forgot how crappy these photos were:
PIAA(4500K claimed) vs. HID(6500K). The HIDs made the $80 PIAA's look like shitty fog light bulbs.

The foglights are the H3c and the others are H1 to the best of my knowledge. You guys need to do the confirming yourself by pulling one out, snapping a picture, and posting it or going to the autoparts store and finding a mate for it. I only have a '96, so I can only tell you what a '95-'98 take with 100% certainty. I have replaced a friends s15 and s13 silvia bulbs, both of which were H1. But you should really never buy stuff based on one guy's experiences.

You should keep your High Beams halogen. Cause HID's take a while to light off and you want the instant on of the halogen to flash your high beams.

From the Archives courtesy our JDM admin.
Here it is. If you search, you'll find this. If you don't search and just post a thread, I'll know.

Halogens:
Foglamps - H3c
Hi/Lo - H4

Dual Projectors:
Lowbeams - H3c
Highbeams - H3
Foglamps - H3c

Triple Projectors:
Lowbeams - H1
Highbeams - H3
Foglamps - H3c

I replaced the triple projector version, hence my claim of H1.
h3c, only avail in japan.. not worth the cost, you can just throw in an H3 and modify the wiring to work.

Everyone needs to check their PMs and Emails. I have 15 unread PMs, and I've sent out messages to everyone who has asked.
Based on this info, we'd have 18. As far as I care, I have money from 3, and a "check in the mail". Remember guys, if you are sending paper payments, I'm going to stop accepting them after Dec 1, because if they're not in my hand on the morning of Dec 6th, I'm going to cash them, and write a check for the payment minus $.37 for the stamp, and mail it back to you. Please hurry if you will be sending paper payments.

Thanks in advance,

I can get them both ways. There might be a slight surcharge on the hi/low combo bulbs ($10). I won't know until I order them.

lol i was worried you were scamming people or something and got banned. Hmm, still dunno if I should go 4100k or 6500k. What are the differences? I am getting this for a zenki 95 240. It's not super blue but it's bluish like the TL's and BMW's xenon lights correct? And once I find this out, will definetly paypal you for a set :naughty:

EDIT: read this: http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html#quickover good stuff. It says the most anyone should go is 4100k b/c that is most like daylight and anything higher will fatigue on your eyes and isn't beneficial. They said the prism effect of Audis are from the lenses, which I want. Damnit, looks like I'm not getting that. Hmm, hard decision though, 4100k or 6500k. Anyone know which has better visibility at night? Looks better?

I told you guys.. this is comming from overseas, so I know only slightly more than you guys. Last I talked to my supplier, his shipment would be "A week or so."
You all need to know that I didn't realize that when I said 30 days... Christmas was in between. This will probably cause a slight delay, but this is only speculation.
Also.. keep in mind.. I recieved $1750 (someone owes me $5 :P ). I paid $3380 out of my pocket. The remaining $130 is for shipping. But I have more money of my own invested in this buy than all of you combined. So please, if the shipment is delayed a bit, bear with me. Update: NFC. I'm told I'll have a tracking number on the DHL shipment next week. But.. I was told it shipped a while ago. So I'm not really sure.
Anyway, the dealer I'm going through is the guy I get my Ebay lights from, and I do ~$50k a year in business with him. I'm 100% sure he's not out to get me, however, this was the first order on HIDs, and I'm sure it will be the last from that company/supplier (who I am in the dark on..).
So.. once I hear something concrete (like the tracking number, or the call saying it cleared customs), I'll post it. Until then, it's hearsay, from the dealer telling me what the manufacturer told him. And it seems to always be the same thing. Which is the reason I haven't updated.
Anyway, both my dealer and I are really pissed about this massive delay.

Ok. DHL says they have it at the port (in Florida) and are awaiting customs. I'm told tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest they'll deliver it to my door.
So. I feel ok to accept the remaining 1/2 payments.
PM/Email me if you have any questions. Otherwise, please send the remaining $135 ($145 for you who ordered 4200K) to me. I'll be shipping these in batches of 5, in order to cut down fuel costs of going to the post office (remember, I make $10 - shipping charges). Got it. I just got a chance to open the DHL box, and they're Kaixen kits. These kits are more expensive usually (i.e. not sold on ebay), and from reading about them, people like them.
If you need info on these, check the groupbuy v2 thread. There is a pic, some tech specs from their site, and the new $290 shipped price. I got the Kaixen because that's who my dealer wanted to go through from now on, and apparently got an intro special (the $260/set this gb was set upon).
Anyway, I've emailed everyone whose paid. I just want to let other people know.

What a pain in the ass this has turned out to be. I was boxing up these lights and then saw a pretty big issue:
The manufacturers are apparently allowed to make up their own color temperatures, and colors that go with it. So, XD7 called 8500k purple, and 6500k blue. This is incorrect to any other company, and so the Kaixen are backwards. This means that the 8500k kit will be blue (Crystal Blue). And conversely, the 6500k will be purple (Crystal Purple) So, not wanting anyone to be upset, I'm offering to order a new set of HIDs for you. Before you answer, look at:

http://www.kaixen.se/kaixen_ljusreferens.jpg
http://www.kaixen.se/kaixen_colortest.jpg

If you've had a change of mind and want to keep your 8500K (blue) bulbs, email me and let me know. However, if you want the purple 6500K, email me. Once I place the order, it's a 1 week turnaround time from Kaixen (another reason we went with them).

Also, for those who ordered 4200K. Kaixen doesn't make 4000k anything. 6000K is as low as they go (see pic above). It's called Crystal White. And didn't cost me the extra $10, so if you want a refund, you'll get everything back. If you want the 6000K, I owe you $10.30.
So. If those who ordered 4200K, if 6000K is unacceptable, I can only refund your money. Those who ordered purple 8500K, I was shipped blue 8500K. Part of this is my fault, as my dealer told me he had 8500K in his Tahoe, however, I'm colorblind, and assumed it was purple. It's blue according to him and my g/f. But the 8500/6500 switchup, let me know the step you'd like me to take. I can ship out the opposite color, or if you're willing to wait a week, I can order the correct set.
Those of you with 7500K, I'm shipping out Monday after class. Goddamn what a headache.

Why must you make fun of my s13

At least ours are on the way...unlike some people. :fawk:
lol, I have an S13 too, but its only the truth. H4s aren't the greates things for HIDs. My friend has some 12000K (but he thinks they are just some 10000K and they lied), on his Z31, they are bright and all but cutoff sucks, his S13 with Silvia front has 8000K and has a good cutoff too.

Anyone ever tried these dealies with HIDs
http://store1.yimg.com/I/motorwings_1824_4127838

They are butt ugly but at least has a projector in it. My friend has them for his Hachi, but no HIDs, and its sitting in a shop so haven're really been able to see light output.

well i went to put in mine today easy install, suprisingly it has very good cutoff, but I guess thats more of a projector thing. Only problem I am having is figuring out where to put the ballast. I only put in the passenger side one right now and the battery is in the way for most spots, and I have no fender liner so quite a bit of water comes in b/w the fender and battery. Any sugestions on where to put it? Driver side has a lot of room so that shouldn't be hard.

Also the rubber boot thing on my headlights doesn't really work cuz it won't come off of the plug, any suggestions on what to do to cover the bulb.

Pics will come thursday or friday once I get my camera from my friend.

If you really have no place to put it.. you can cut and extend the wires. Provided you do it correctly on the harness.. you shouldn't have issues. Don't do it on the ballast or bulb side, as you will probably void the warranty. However, making some connectors and extending, or just cut/solder/shrink wrap on the intermediate harness seems like it'd be safe.

damnit, received the kit today, and so excited about it so i went ahead install it. no problem or what so ever, but when i turned the headlights on, damn. one of the burner gone, yup gone(it made some sparking noise but it just won't turn on, and i checked the fuses so many times but no luck). i like what the... so, jeff, do i have to send you the defect burner to you or you can get a replacement for me? i love this kit but somehow it just gone bad on me >_< tough luck for sure.

I put the passenger side ballast in front of the battery. Take it out and mount it and put the battery back in. I used the factory hole for the harness. To get the boots on you have to cut the middle out and just push it all the way on. Don't worry about having the connections uncovered. You can use electrical tape or, I think you can get heat shrink tape at a electrical supply store. I dunno why they designed the plug like they did for the H4...It seems REALLY stupid the way it is. But I'm enjoying my kit. I may want some 6k bulbs later though. The blue looks great from outside but I think I'd rather have white light to drive.

I'm sure he touched the bulbs, but I'm working on getting a new pair for him. I'm sure because I watched someone install a set of HIDs, touch the bulb, and the exact same thing happened. Silvia Lover - I'll have an answer for you later tonight, but I'm thinking he'll just send me a replacement, no questions asked.

Thanks got it in and fine. I ended up just putting the passenger side one on the bumper support and feeding the wires up. The driver side I just fed it through the hole behind the light and stuck the ballast to the wheel arch. Cut the rubber thing and taped it back up and on.

There is no need on this kit (at least for s13) to cut any size hole into your headlight like the instructions say. And I am not sure what if anythign that extra plug thing does. My headlights worked with it in and with it off.

im guessing the extra plug thing ur talking about is the crossover plug... thats strange that they both work...

Ehh.. the only time I've heard of that sparking/buzzing sound was when the bulb got touched. Anyway, there will be a new bulb (maybe bulbs) in my next shipment, so about a week or so.

Hey Jeff,
Mark me down for one new bulb also. I tried to install them tonight and the driver side works, but the passenger doesn't. I switched the ballasts to make sure that wasn't the problem and sure enough it is the bulb. Also, before anyone says it, I was wearing latex gloves throughout the entire process and even still I didn't touch either bulb. So let me know what needs to be done to get a replacement. I am driving with the HID on the driverside and a Silverstar on the passenger side. Man that Silverstar used to look white but now it looks a dingy yellow when compared to the HID. Thanks in advance, Alex.

Edit: H1 6000k

Ok, thanks for the heads up. Jeff, in the future, can we order replacement bulbs from you, or do we need to go to the company directly? Also, what is the general life expectancy of these bulbs? Thanks, Alex.

Bulbs are 2000 hours. You can order bulbs through me, but they're cheaper to get elsewhere (unless I'm ordering more stuff), because shipping on a set of bulbs alone is ~$40 from overseas. However, if I order a bulk quantity, I can get them for about 1/2 what other bulbs cost.
Seeing as there are so many bulbs and colors, I really can't have that many bulbs laying around my house. It would tie up $3k easy.

Hey Jeff,
Just wondering if you got your replacement bulbs in yet? I still need to get one. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but the bulbs we use in the Kaixen HID setup are not the same as traditional HID bulbs (D2S, D2R) so we pretty much have to use Kaixen bulbs as other bulbs won't work with this setup? Thanks, Alex.

If you touch the bulb use a lint free cloth with alcohol. Then never touch the bulb again.

SilviaDriver
02-28-2005, 04:25 PM
there you go. lint free with alcohol. i had a feeling it would be with alcohol, but didnt want to give misinformation unless i was sure. this is the same when/if you touch projector headlights.

Jeff240sx
02-28-2005, 06:17 PM
Touching the bulb leaves an oil on your hand, which expands/contracts/heats at a different rate than glass. Anyone who has been in a Chem lab knows what happens when glass heats and contracts at high rates.
Yes, alcohol will remove the oil on your bulb, and everyone is happy. The alcohol itself evaporates very quickly.
That said, I said it was a defective bulb. And have another on teh way. My stuff will be here Wednesday, and have the replacement bulbs.
As far as the defect rate.. the Kaixen guy says he has less than 1 in 1000. Now, that isn't 1 in 1 million, and I don't really care. However, 3 issues with 15 sets with a 1 in 1000 rate means this guy is lying, or there was shipping damage on the trip over, which I believe.
Quality kits? Name another company that gives a 1 year warranty on the burner. And knowing it costs $110 to ship a replacement over here.. and this is all at 1/2 the price that other companies charge. And less than even Ebay no-name kits.
I placed an order for a 9006 kit to go in my gf's car. And had I not sold the H4 I bought for my car, I'd run this kit also. I do have another H4 kit for my car on the way, so maybe I'll also get HIDs. I'm the guy with a $4k motor, a $3k turbo kit, a $2k stereo. I know price vs. performance. I don't believe that an immeasurable ammount of peace of mind gained by buying a better known brand is worth it. But you stuck up motherfuckers claiming quality over something you've never seen (silviadriver).. how can you possibly be believed? Your opinions mean nothing to me, due to lack of evidence and credibility. Kaixen comes within 1% (3150 vs 3200 lumens) compared to phillips bulbs at 6000k.
Anyway, get the fuck out of my thread silviadriver. You didn't buy anything, and comming here and badmouthing what I sell (which I sell on ebay for $350/set + shipping all day long), is pitiful. Go claim quality issues, and when my kits Then propping the stats on "your kit". Go fist yourself, even if I weren't a mod, and this weren't my thread, I'm jump on you for posting that.
That said, I'm out. PM me if you need anything.

As stated, Wednesday (maybe up to a couple day delay due to customs, but not probable) is when I expect to get my kits, and replacement parts (including your bulb).
Also, a replacement bulb is a replacement bulb. The S and R don't factor into that equation.

you can touch the bulb all you want, just clean it up with alcohol and cotton swab before firing it up

I didn't read through all of the thread, just the 1st few post and last few post.

I have owned 5 sets of hids on 3 different cars and from my opinion, the only real way to go is name brand such as hella, osram, phillips... etc

off brand are often made with lesser quality, mainly the ballast that cease to function after 6 months
