I'm having a bit of issues with a blacktop s13 into a 1989 240sx. Car starts up perfect without a maf, but when maf is plugged in it has a little trouble starting and has horrible idle till it dies. When the Maf is not plugged in it purrs like a kitten and revs well of course up to 3k I think it is (of course b/c the maf is off). I've checked my vacume leaks and I don't believe there are any. Anyone know of any other things i might check.
I rechecked all the wiring, maf wiring is fine. Theres only 3 wires which makes it hard to screw up.
Any idea if no gasket on the turbo inlet (the hardpipe to the turbine) could be causing this? I wouldn't think there would be that much air flowing through it at idle to cause this sort of problem.
hardpipe off ur intercooler, didnt no there was suppost to be a gasket, i just used sum rv sealant, and i dont think u even need that, it has to be your maf, a friend of mine had the same problem with his Grand National, ran fine at idle with it off and once he plugged it back in died after a couple a seconds, replaced it done, she works fine, i think thats your problem. good luck.

Its sounds more like a maf problem. Are you sure the maf is good?

Spray the maf down with Carb/choke cleaner.

I've tried two mafs, one off his sohc which was good prior to using it, and the mafs that came with the car.
Thats why i don't think the mafs is bad. (the unit itself on the intake)

maybe your maf wiring, I donno, it deffinitely sounds liek your maf, and if youve tried diff mafs, then I would be led to believe it would be your wiring, or anything else that would happen when maf is plugged in, like oh, ecu.

Ok, check this out, I swapped out the hks intake that came with the car (filled with oil) with his sohc air box. The car idled way way better, but still not good by any means. Atleast it didn't idle rough enough to die. But the idle was shitty none the less. The car is shooting out black/grey smoke of course its an open downpipe, but I think theres somehow a lott of oil in the turbo. I put a gasket on the turbo inlet pipe (liquid gasket). Whats wierd is that the idle is stable with the stock air box and not with the hks intake? The idle was also stable when i took the maf out of the pipe and let the car idle. Wierd huh? im still wondering if its a maf issue. Its extremely hard to fuck up on the maf since i did wire the rest of the car correctly so it makes me weary that i would wire 3 wires to 3 wires, black to black, white to white, black/white to black/white. simple.
edit: getting the downpipe with a hole in it welded, so we can hear if there is any vacume leaks and also work on it without gettin smoked out.
