i'm in the market for a ca18det. no, i'm not going sr20. i want a ca18det, and i've searched around for one, but not too many shops carry them. i've seen places sell the complete motor set for right at $800 shipped. so help me out!

JHOT exports, augusta georgia.
You do know, thats an old engine. will probably be needing a good freshening up. At least I would, before i boost it any more than stock.

There isnt much info on CA18's on zilvia. You should go to NICO for all your CA18DET needs.

And here are some places that sell or can obtain CA18's

I got my clip from venus but I inspected it and picked it up myself because a few people have had a bad time with them.

the CA's came on the pignose 180's in japan (89-90). somebody kick me in the head if i'm wrong. that's why they're called 180SX's... the name just stuck.

Yep, thats right. And thats doesn't mean that it is a crappy engine at all. It has just as much potential as an SR. And, it is alot easier to get parts for them in the US, because the old Pulsar's had the CA18E. Almost everything for that engine will work on a CA18DET.
Also, you wont be able to get a complete motorset shipped for $800. I got a friend who imports engines and cars and he sells them for 1200 without shipping. And thats still a good price.

i got my clip from www.venus-auto.com w/ 170 170 170 175 compression :) hardy harrrrr. anyhow they were good people, like someone said previously www.nissaninfiniticlub.net is the black to be for your ca18det needs, also visit my post ; http://nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=89111 .
i dont trust anyplace with motors unless i can see them and watch the compression test so yeah, find a place local and work from there..

Bingo. all i'm going to do to it is swap on a sr t25 and outlet pipe, install a new timing belt, headgasket, and head studs/bolts. i honeslty screwed up not buying that complete ca18 swap for $800.

i can paypal you as of right now... but is it just a motor alone? compression tested? tranny, ecu, ignitor, harness availible as well? "just let me know" ;)

Ca18det longblock. That includes eveything but tranny, harness, ecu, ignitor.
It has a slight rod knock in the forth cylinder. Great for a build up motor. Yes it comes with the turbo as well. First $150 takes it all ! Just get it out of my sight.

Don't buy a CA. Save up for a SR.
I don't see no reason to swap in a shitty engine like the CA. I live in Sweden and here we have CA's in all S13's.
Nissan didn't change to the SR after 3 years whitout a reason...
So sad Europe didn't get the SR's in our 92-94 as Japan did.
But the Japanese were smart: "Lets send the remaining CA's to Europe so we get rid of them"
I honestly belive the KA is a MUCH MUCH better engine than the CA.
Power isn't everything...

So I guess iron block, square bore/stroke, 8 runner manifold (On JDM Ver), 8 lobe cams, and all the other features dont mean a damn thing. The CA18 is a very nice platform to build on and in stock form of course it doesnt have as much power as a SR20. The SR20 not only came with a better T25 but also has .2L over the CA18.

shot peened internals, bottem end crank girdle, cam-on-bucket valve train (SR20's rocker arms EEEW!) piston oil squirters. the list goes on. the SR20 was chosen because it was cheaper to produce. the CA18 was just to expensive.

why does everyone tend to (KNOCK) other motors, the Ka is a beautiful engine but its just too slow, and is costly to mod, the CA is a damn beautiful motor and was well designed! is not that expensive to mod, but aftermarket support is somewhat SLIM consitereing nobody wants to take a change in carring parts for it, the sr was designed somewhat like the ka. It being torquey and chain driven. Also the rocker arm/lifters WHATEVEr you want to call them.
but lets leave this decision to the guy who is intrested in putchasing the motor he wants. Ka's SUCK. ive had mine for 3 years and its time to get this POS out of the s13. I made a stocky post in the TECH section of zilvia for the ca18. if you are intrested man then you are more than welcome to ask me any questions you have for and about the ca18. im shure boroboro with also.

1st off i can get a ca front clip for less than the price i could get a sr. 2nd, by the money i save i can re-work the motor with a new timing belt, yadda, yadda. i already have a sr t25 if i haven't already posted that... i'm looking for 200whp so no need for a bigger turbo.
sLiDewAys
11-07-2004, 10:25 PM
yeah thats good man, i got my ca clip for about 1100 from venus auto. thats 1,200.00's cheaper than an sr clip. and with the money i have saved i managed to do this. all added up is worth about the same as an sr redtop clip
-sr t-25
-blitz bov
-new timing belt, PS belt, and altornator/water pump belt
-new rear main seal
-SPEC stage 2 clutch
-blitz sus filter
-greddy mx 3" downpipe
-apex N1 3" exhaust
-3" test pipe
-ka24E MAF
-headgasket, exhasut manifold gastkets, intake manifold and router gastkets, thermostat, water pump, oil pump, and get the front covers and lower covers professionally powder coated. all together might make a good 220hp on stock boost. not badd for the price of a STOCK ASS SR CLIP!

hey Nismo240sx...have you tried Noyan? they're in Manassas, and i remember they use to sell them for pretty much $800. then you don't have to ship an engine.
also my buddy Jason got his SR at some motor shop in southern VA so they might have some too.
i wish i was back home in VA right now w/what i have, i'd sell you enough parts to make your own damn CA.
i'm tellin you though....i love mine...i truly love this engine.
