bay area, CA: smog help!

just got smogged today, passed emissions, but failed me on injen intake, oil catch can, and (dumbass me I left my ECU out, and told him) 5 speed swap. I left the shop with a big WTF. I have a carb sticker for the intake, just wasn't on, but I have my stock intake still so I'll put that on. The catch can I can throw out. But WTF am I going to do about the 5 speed swap? He failed me because he saw some splicing on my ECU (speed sensors). this is crap. the shop gave me a free re-test since I failed, but if I do go back there he'll remember the ECU stuff and fail me again! Is this fair? Is there a shop out there that think a 5-speed swap from an auto is smog legal?

Failing for a 5 speed swap is BS... as far as I know.

There are a couple smog techs here who I am sure can tell you for sure whether thats the case or not. I am sure they will pipe in eventually.

just go somewhere else and remember to hide your ecu or put in back in the panel. Minus well lose out on some dough and get your car smogged then not gettin it smogged at all. Isnt the The knock sensor is on top of the bell housing by the way?????Or one of the knock sensor's.

Anthony, your injen intake, oil catch can and 5 speed swap shouldnt be a problem for SMOG. According to the Smog check inspection manual I have, Blow-by Oil serparators/Filters ( I believe this refer to oil catch can ) is not of a concern as long as the required emiision device is there (PCV valve) (Appendix K, Rev. 6) . But since it is so easy to take it off, just throw it out for now in case they try to fail you again.

Injen intake - just get a sticker and you will be fine.

5 speed swap - I dont see why it will fail SMOG, it's not releated to emission device. Probably they see you ECU wires (computer) are modified. Just hide your ECU back and tell them you got it replaced. SMOG technician CANNOT disassemble or take apart anything while they are doing SMOG, so therefore, they cant pull out your ECU and check.
