I recently purchased an sr20det and the seller says that it is 5 speed. I thought that all s15 sr's were 6 speed? I am to receive it on Monday but is there any way to see if it is actually a 5 speed or not?http://zilvia.net/f/attachment.php?attachmentid=105172&stc=1&d=1537494654

all turbos are 6 speed. the none turbos are 5 speed.
you will know straight away as the 6 speed is an asin box and not the usual Nissan small case box.

They put 5-speeds on them to save money. Its more profitable for them to sell the 6-speed separately and use a cheap 5-speed on it.
Or maybe the 6-speed blew up...

You don't want a 6-speed usually anyways. They are more prone to failure, due to some kinda cir-clip issue that has no resolution.
Although I know quite a few 6-speed units that work fine to this day. hit or miss I suppose.

S15 motors use different computer and coilpacks, so pay attn to the ecu and coils for verify.

There is a mod for the j160 4th gear cir-clip issue,
not cheap if done by these people, but easy redone DIY style

cool thanks for sharing. I'm glad somebody can finally apply a fix it. Its just so obscure, expensive, I'm not sure it has an application for typical budget daily drivers just yet.

a local engineer could replicate what they do to the shaft and fab some cir-clips
the j160 as in the gearbox the UK Lexus is200 1g (2.0 inline 6 NA)
came with has a stronger gearset, uses same C clip design,
and when turbo/supercharged can last many miles at over 500 bhp atw
I have a back burner project to adapt one onto a CA18det
