i think itll be pretty badass to have american cars compete. power is power. itll be funny if at some point the crowds are littered with american and japanese flags at a competition or something. say for instance D1 next years turns into a US vs Japan battle (car wise)

It actually may be bad for anyone other than the original US D1 guys to get into competition drift soon. Just like about every other Pro racing they start when any normal guy with some skills or not can give it a try and make it. Then come big time sponsers, now everything changes. The more money that comes into drifting the more money it will take to do it. Try being a local driver and try to get into NASCAR, Indy, NHRA or any other pro series. With out big time sponsers or being rich its impossible. This is the future I see for drift in the US. I am glad I am going back to Japan So I can drift when and where I want pretty much. So all in all I think it is blowing up to fast.

There are good people all over, and people are starting to realize this, but first step is getting big scale events in your area, little events like Drift Days, and DG Trials events won't attract any big name sponsors. Get sponsored by little shops and work your way up. Win some big scale events and be different.

um..who'm i missing
oh the 2 pro drivers
dont start this east coast shit
californai is where driftingthrives hence why there's more
the first driver search was in california
since there was anothre back east in FL and such you'll seee more east coasters
drifting in cali blew up fast, hence why there's only d1 usa in calfornia
the more it grows the more youll see it back east
i hate this west coast jealous a lot of people get
yeah there is A BUNCH of great east coasters no doubt
but the ones who really have done superb sponsor and such wise moved to california, for a reason.

What you are saying Is true I agree or the East coasters moving to west whould not stand true. This is not east coast jealous thing i can care less. Myself dont even have much room to speak cause I am not even a vet. I just hope there luv/dedication many have had will get them a little bit of shine. Cause many vets have gone throw alot just for us here to be able to learn/practice aka. events/locations/backing.

oh ok i dont mean like im saying you are, im just saying i dont want people to get that attidute. im friends w/ quite a few of the east coast guys and the ones who moved out here so i dont think anything about whos from where, its how you drive
yaeh there are lots o great east coasters
and you know what there are lots of hawaii guys who rock , lots of NW an dlots of SW..its all over
but if you want to see more you gotta wait tilldrifting blows up NATIONWIDE
right now most business and look at those sponsors, most are west coast based, what would you expect? we can prcatice in the sun 365 days a year out here, and for evenst we get lots and lots
ive been into this stuff for over 2 years since drift days and all that started and before drifting really took off, and lots of my friends are fully sponsored and such
it will grow and more will get stuff until it platues and drops fof to what it was 3 years ago..
takes time as does everything.
this year's d1 qualify and d1 im sure will be more diverse and as it moves back east over time you'll see ore guys out there
and if you look at formula d it was all over the country and many of the top placers were from BOTH coasts
too bad hawaii cant jump into this more, some of those guys REALLY kick ass. (and it shows more with the who are here already)

The whole east and west shit is real and Im not going to lie Im jelous as hell. We dont get any events in the northeast,,well we had one scheduled at gilette stadium home of the patriots but It got canceled for bullchit reasons, it was supposed to be rescheduled but guess what?It wasnt, they just shit on us. On top of it there are no tracks in MA to practice on so we have to do it on the street, parking lots, industrial areas and have to deal with cops..And before anyone mentions dgtrials,,thats well over a 6hrs drive each way. I wouldnt trust any of my cars 12+hrs drive plus track time and risk getting stuck in east butfuck.
Dousan_PG
11-03-2004, 11:04 PM
yeah that sucks bro
i hear you o nthat
its really tough
out here,i wont lie
we got like 2 real tracks (2 at one, one at another)
3 parking lot locations they use
and othe rplaces are growing
that sucks
streets are more fun anyways
streets and mountains rule
but run that risk..sigh

i heard Alex Pfeiffer is from hawaii. he kicks ass.
Yes he is.
Although West Coast does have a lot more events, they have a lot more bullshit to deal with. Drifting has grown so much there so everyone wants to do it, leaving less and less seat time for one event.
If you want more events then do it yourself, don't complain abotu cancelled events. Out here in Chicago we had none, closest we had was in Minnesota and they rarely had any, but a few of us got together and made events. Get people/money together, find some places (tracks or parking lots) and talk to Moto and Naoki (GoDrift), it might be a bit difficult at first but you will get events.
I wouldn't be suprised if RS*R has another Festival in a place where there isn't much of a fan base. They did it for us and they seemed to have loved it, now Chicago is somewhat on the map.
You just have to take charge, if we never signed up with Go Drift RS*R would have never come to us, Formula D would not be coming next year etc..
And yes Hawaii really does kick ass.

Falken Drift and Azenis Product Launch
The biggest drifting news came from proactive drift supporter Falken Tires. Falken announced the biggest sponsored group of drifters to date – with 12 prominent and up and coming drifters to burn Falken rubber at drift competitions across the country.
The big surprises in the lineup included Vaughn Gittin Jr. in a second 2005 Ford Mustang to attack the drift tarmac (Toyo Tires announced Ken Gushi in a ‘Stang a day earlier). Gittin’s Mustang will not feature the supercharged Cobra motor like Gushi’s car though, but a supercharged factory engine is expected. Other surprises include Calvin Wan jumping from 240SX to Infiniti G35 and Chris Forsberg switching from his trademark 350Z to a S15 Nissan Silvia.
The twelve factory-supported drifters for 2005 are:
Seigou Yamamoto in a Mazda FD3S RX-7
Calvin Wan in an Infiniti G35
Hubert Young in a Nissan S13 240SX
Ben Schwartz in a Nissan S14 240SX
Hiro Sumida in a Toyota AE86 Corolla
Casper Canul in a Nissan S14 240SX
Vaughn “JR” Gittin in a Ford Mustang
Tony Angelo in a Mazda FD3S RX-7
Ryan Hampton in a Nissan S13 240SX
Chris Milano in a Nissan S13 240SX
James Bondurant in a Nissan S13 240SX
Chris Forsberg in a Nissan S15 240SX
Tied into the mega-drift program, Falken unleashed a world debut of a World Spec Azenis RT-615 tire designed to go toe-to-toe with premium JDM race-spec brands like Yokohama’s Advan and Bridgestone’s Potenza. The 615 is billed as a no compromise tire premium pure sports tire and has one of the most aggressive production tread patterns we’ve ever seen to match. The Azenis 615 will get the real world test on all of the sponsored drift cars mentioned above.
Falken also announce the start of a Formula D contingency sponsorship to award competitors running on Falken rubber.

Although competition between US and Japanese drivers could be good for the sport and definitly has a benifit to the import culture here in north America, I do agree that it is growing too fast. Drifting in Japan took time to evolve into what it is today, and it seems as if the US has just tried to jump on board when there was money to be made. That's not a cut toward Americans, it's just the way the market works. I'd personally like to see more team battles and touge matches. I see a lot of people jumping on the nissan band wagon, but how many of you have seen a Toyota Aristo or Celsior drift? How many kids wanna Drift Cefiro's??? That's what drifting is about for me at least. It's nice to see that D1 is adding a D2 stage for next year. Hopefully this will give more people a chance to compete. As for Ford getting involved with Drifting I'm not too concerned. Notice how hard Ford is trying to push this new Mustang? They are not doing well, as was shown by them sell Jaguar to a private company earlier this year. I hope Ken Gushi does well with whatever he drives.
