Brake Fluid, What do you use?

Alright well i dunno where to post this so chat seems cool with me. lol

Well just curious what brake fluid people use on here. I also work at an auto place so i looked all the brake fluid there and found some good numbers.

ATE Super Gold Dot5.1(i've been told it is the same as super blue,but is a gold fluid)

392*f Wet boiling temp
Cost: ~$20

Valvoline Synthetic Power Dot 4
502*f Boiling temp
343*Wet boiling temp
Cost: ~$8

Castrol GTLMA Dot 4
446*f Boiling temp
311*f Wet boiling temp
Cost: ~$7

All the other ones i carry at my work are crappier so i choose not to post them. Currently I am using the Valvoline. I don't think im missing much and it cost much less than the ATE super.

On another note if you don't know what wet boiling temp is here is what I understand it to be. The type of fluid BRAKE FLUID is, is Different from all other fluids. Over time brake fluid absorbs water. (Hence why everyone says not to use fluid thats already been open) So a couple years down the road the fluid is going to have more water in it than when it was brand new. With the water in the fluid it changes its boiling temp. Now the fluid is going to boil quicker because the water is going to boil first.

Ok if you use a different fluid Post it just like I did with cost and temps.

Valvoline Synthetic...good enough for most every street/track car.

Go with better if you have a track only car, but for the cost, can't beat Valvoline Syn.

ATE Superblue or ATE Typ200. They're the same exact thing, just different colors (one is blue, the other is goldish, kind of like oil).

I alternate between the two every 3 months or so, that way I can tell when I've 100% flushed the system out as the color of fluid coming out will change.

I'm usually at 1 auto-x every month, as well as 1 open track event (2-4 hours of track time) every 3 weeks or so, hence the VERY frequent brake bleeds.

Another vote for ATE super blue

I have heard that Ford Super Heavy Duty is excellent as well, but there is some controversy as to whether or not it is still the same formula. MUCH cheaper than the ATE or Motul fluids. A lot of SCCA racers use it.

charles i know you said there was some contraversey as to wether the formula of Ford super heavy duty, but what is the basis? im curious, and ive tried to search and find any sort of conversation about this. im curious cuz i need to bleed my breaks and i was contemplating using ford super heavy duty.

the gold is the same, they just have two colors so u can tell when the new fluid is coming out. think someone mentioned this already.

Where do you guys get super blue/gold? I know spl carries blue, but I like the idea of blue and gold for the sake of changing. I need to do my brakes, and have been wondering which fluid to use.

I use ATE super blue, good for street / light track use. I interchange with ATE Gold when I flush brakes so I know I get a clean flush. (all fluid goes from blue to gold and the other way around)

Motul RBF600 is great, no fade and high heat resistance for track but you need to flush it more often as it absorbs moisture faster. You will never see this kind of temps in any kind of street use.

Apparently it's the same fluid.. just different packaging.

Ford HD is a Dot 3 fluid (part# PM-1)
Dry boiling point: 550F Wet 290F

Used to only be $4 a bottle. could be different now.
