So I am in the process of considering which adapter kit for a SR to VG. There are loads of adapter plates on the market. However, this is one I had my eyes on the Excessive kit

However, as you can see it has a flywheel spacer. I have heard all sorts of horror stories of what a spacer separating "could" do, but not seeing much of it being an issue if everything is torqued correctly.
Is a flywheel spacer really that much bad thing (ed: will it greatly increase main and thrust bearing wear for instance)?? Any other potential issues??

The flywheel spacer is a no go in my opinion. Think about it, something with as much rotational force shouldn't rely on a spacer holding it down, so many bad things can go wrong with it. I personally went with the Mazworx SR to VG and had the bellhousing machined down and everything that is included in the kit made the swap extremely easy.
I did however look to Xcessive for their shifter bracket due to it placing the shifter in the stock location.

get a scatter shield. https://www.jegs.com/pt/Bellhousing+Scattershield

Thanks guys! IN all honesty, I would just machine the bellhousing and redo my mounts the 0.5" to compensate. Its a custom application so either wanted to make up the difference via bell housing or mounts.

wow, ive never seen a flywheel spacer like that, crazy stuff. I have a hard enough time not freaking out over bolt on wheel spacers. that flywheel spacer would give me nightmares.

I have this kit and it works great. Running 370ish hp at the moment.
There is nothing wrong with flywheel spacers. The spacer itself does not really get any strain on it. Its the hardware that can sheer. But have you ever heard of anyone sheering 6 to 8 14mm bolts. Its just not going to happen.
They are very commonly run on high hp drag cars to adapt to powerglides.
I have one on a LS foxbody putting down 850 hp and in the 8's.
Again very common on american stuff with way more torque than an sr is ever going to put out.
The kits flywheel bolts are of good quality.
This is the easiest and most put together kit on the market.
Also, collins makes spacers to go from 1/2jz to everything, and its way thicker.
