well, im in the final stages of an s14 engine swap. i swapped out my my ka with another ka b/c i blew a hole in my first one. ive managed to start the car and fix some idling problems but i have discovered a new problem. when i start my car and it idles everything sounds fine. but when i rev the engine up to about 2k i hear a rattling sound. Im not sure if i still have peices of my upper timing chain in there (it broke) or if my timing chain is just loose. Im leaning toward it being a loose timing chain b/c last time when i took the valve cover off, it looked a bit loose but i didn't think it was a big deal. it also sounds like its skipping a tooth, kinda like in motorcycles. My question is this, if my timimg chain is loose, how do i tighten it? All i know so far is that ill have to take off the front cover to the engine and "play with the upper timing tensioner"? can someone please point me in the right direction.
thanks

since nobody else replied... there's alot of info out there. you need to search for it. here's what you should check though...
#1 timing chain guides. start simple. i bet it's just a loose guide. remove the two upper timing chain guides. one is under the valve cover and the other is under the front timing cover.
#2 engine oil. iirc low oil causes slack tensioners which can cause a slack chain.
#3 gunked up chain tensioners. if one or the other chain tensioner is covered or broken it needs to be cleaned or replaced. if its the upper one, it's an easy job (it's also under the front timing cover). if its the lower one you are going to be pulling off the valve cover, front timing cover, and main cover of the engine (basically all the plates on the front side of the engine).
oh and the timing chain isn't an item that you can adjust simply... u don't tighten it... u overhaul the whole system if its busted, stretched and jumping teeth
