I have been looking up info on auto to manual swap and have all the part lists.
However, some people say I need mounting plate and some don't even mention it.
I am wondering what mounting plate is and where it goes.
I got all my parts from a savaged car myself and here's what I have.
5 speed tranny and sensors
5 speed cross member
5 speed shifter and boot
manual brake pedal
clutch pedal
master cylinder with hard lines
slave cylinder with all the lines
Front part of manual driveshaft
Clutch kit (I'm ordering new one with pressure plate and bearings)
Clutch fork
I am missing few parts.
I do not have bolts for the m/t to mount on engine but can I use one from auto?
I do not have bolts for crossmember but I guess I could use one from auto.
I do not have flywheel and bolts because I could not take it off but the guy agreed to ship them.
So is there anything else I need to do the swap?
Also, is there anything behind flywheel that I need for 5 speed swap?
Lastly, Can I use front part of driveshaft with ABS auto rear part of driveshaft?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
My car is 96 240SX

crossmember bolts will be fine. auto bolts are too short for mating engine/tranny you need manual bolts/nuts or equivalents. theres a fairly good install faq we have for this as well. dont forget to rent a bearing puller when you do the swap. the backing plate i think your talking about is a big piece of metal almost like a gasket that goes between the tranny and engine. Ive seen 1 person say that the auto one can be used if you want but nobody else has confirmed it. I would like to be able to use my auto plate, can anyone else confirm it definitely works? anyone using it? im curious of this as well...

Thanks for the quick reply.
If mounting plate is not comparable, I guess I will buy the plate and bolts from the dealer.
Anybody else can confirm this?

no, the plate is not the same...
the m/t is one piece...and it is a good idea to get it, unless you like to have lots of road debris in the engine
the drive shaft thing: i think thats the way i did mine and it turned out fine, just as long as it all fits properly, i wouldnt worry about it...but i also had a s13

Thanks.
I guess i'm gonna order bolts, mounting plates, and pilot bushing from the dealer.
Is there anyother source I can get these items new?
Dealers overcharge way too much!

Oh my bad.
Looks like the bushing is gonna come with the new clutch kit.
Those are still good sources though. Thanks
I guess I can't avoid dealing with dealers.
I have to buy ashtray and the switch thing that goes around ignition.
Damn dealers!
Anyone wanna sell me those?

Uhh, you might need the retainer spring, holder spring, and release sleeve. I tried looking around for them and they're dealer only parts but it'll only cost around 30 dollars for the three.

what do those springs look like? i never heard anyone mention them till now so i didnt order them... i just got my rps clutch kit and ordered new from the factory the to bearing and pilot bushing. damn i didnt know there would be more parts i never seen those anywhere but here! could someone take a picture of their mt plate or someone with an at plate? im wondering if it could maybe be modified to fit since ive heard of that before...

well both springs are basically just twisted metal wires. The retainer spring is shaped like a pair of tweezers and the holder spring is a half circle. The retainer spring goes to the clutch fork and the holder spring to the release sleeve.

Those parts go inside the transmision with withdrawer level right?.
I took my tranny apart from the engine with all the stuff in it, so I think I have those parts.
Tastyratz, check you tranny and see if those parts are in there.
I think as long as you got the whole tranny, they should come with it.
About the driveshaft, ABS driveshaft is about 0.55 in shorter than non-ABS.
Also, diameter of rear part in auto driveshaft is about 1 in shorter than the one in m/t.
Do you guys think it would be ok?
I don't really feel like spending $120 right now for the driveshaft.
