i was driving home tonight and half way home i started to hear this whining noise from the rear end whenever my vehicle is moving. it doesnt matter if i am in gear of if i am in neutral, the whining noise still occurs unless i am stopped. Sounds like it could be coming from the rear diff. I just did a fluid change in the rear diff and put the recommended GL5 in there. I am not sure what this sound means. if anyone has any ideas it would be a great help.

If it happens in neutral, it can't be the rear end. Does it only happen when the car is moving, or does it matter?

it only happens when the vehicle is moving. if it is in gear and i give it gas, the noise gets louder. but when i dont have any gas applied or if i do not have the vehicle in gear i will hear the whining noise a little quieter until i come to a stop

get someone to stand outside the car and roll by a few times. see if they can't better pinpoint the noise for you.
maybe
#1 differential
#2 hubs
#3 some noise from the brakes
seeing as how you just worked on the diff, its probably the differential.

i had a friend change out my fluid and it wound up that he didnt fill it up all the way. i redid the diff fluid change yesterday and now the noise is pretty much gone. he got a talkin to all right. thanks for all the input!!
