Well, I thought I could share my latest progress on my project "Get car back on the road before winter"...

I picked up a used S13 SR20DET, '93 edition... Don't know the mileage, but I do know that it had great compression and no metal shavings in the pan.

I change the front and rear main seals, changed the thermostat, swapped over my parts and I am almost done. I have a few pics:

As you can see, I have my intake, cas, and hotpipe to put back on... I have fluids to fill, tranny, engine, power steering and radiator... But all is good for the moment.

The reason now for the title. My T28 died with the engine. So I had money to spare to buy another T28, but I decided to add 150 pounds to my car instead and keep the T25. Here is why:

It's an Autopower 6-pt rollcage bolt-in with cross bar, harness bar, custom welded dash bar and double driver side bar. I decided to get it... 400C$ is cheap, and it will get the job done for time trials, lapping. I will, however, get rid of the dash bar... But the rest will stay.

So, 50whp less, but added security. I think it's a good thing, don't you?

Yes although why not dash bar? Doesn't it fit?

I find it too close to the legs and I would have to cut my dash in pieces to make it fit and lose the glove compartment.

safety first. roll cages are the only things that work best when your car is at its worst.

150lb.. that seems like ALOT, my 4 point Saftey 21 roll bar is only 14lb. Granted its only a roll bar, but 150lb seems like ALOT.

Maybe I exagerate a little... I'd have to put it on a scale, but it's really heavy... Way over 75-80 pounds... I heard it's about 1 pound per feet... lemme measure it and I'll let you know the weight! :D

Is you cage SCCA legal?

Ok... my cage piping measures aroud 41ft... is it 1kg/ft or 1lb/ft? if it's 1kg/ft, it would round up to 90lbs more.

lightness is good up to a point, then you start to realize that the entire chassis alone is weak shit. anyone who's cut a clip should know how weak the entire chassis is, and that the only solid part of the entire vehicle is the cross member and sway bars -- everything else is just sheet metal that can turn into crap on impact.

the roll bar is the ONLY item in my car that weighs a fair amount of weight, and with no complaint from me. if i had an entire roll cage, i would understand if it weighed that much.. because its the only thing saving your ass in a flip, collision, etc.

Nice find.
How much is the bar getting in the way of getting in/out of the car?????

It doesn't get in the way that much!! I haven't installed it in my car yet, but I can't wait to put it in. :)
