Title is misleading, got my hopes up.

Maybe Greddy could “recondition” it..

It might be fine.

Shaft play isn't a great indicator of whether a turbo is good. I've seen low play turbos with bad bearings. Only way to find out is run it.

Keep in mind mileage wears the blade and the clearance as well, reducing efficiency. Using a really good paper filter will prolong the life of the blade and engine. A good test is to compare the horsepower with the same car using a brand new turbo. For example 1998 Silvia 2.0L everyone knows will do 280rwhp all stock new turbo. But if I dyno one and then right away install a used T-28 from 1998 silvia on the 2.0 and I can only get 250rwhp with no boost leaks, yeah it probably has too much wear. They are amazing because they will last 25+ years and still work, just lose power over time from wear.
