Ive been swaping out my blown KA for a 90k KA. i got the engine back in the car a few days ago but im having trouble with the idle on the car. it bobbles up and down and won't go above 1000rpm. Anytime i start it goes up to about 500rpm then down to 200rpm then back up to 500rpm then back down to 200rpm then it dies. do you guys have any idea what could be wrong with my engine... im in desperate need of assistance.

Best bet to help you troubleshoot your Idle problems is to 1). Get ahold of a Factory Service Manual. It lists the best procedures to follow when troubleshooting & repairing all kinds of engine problems.
Now if you do have a Factory Service Manual, then you may want to check ALL of your vacuum lines to make sure you properly hooked them up. Also check to see if you have any vacuum leaks. If you can, try to put your car into Diagnostic Mode. Hopefully the ECU can point you in the right direction, telling you what system may be causing your problem. You might have accidently missed re-connecting a harness or subharness which affects idle. Sure you dont' have any leaks around the intake manifold & MAF? You hook up the lines going to the carbon cannister??
Anyhow, hope this helps...good luck!!

my engine has been rained on a few times and i didn't replace the distro after i did the swap. as far as i know, all the vacume lines are hooked up except for one. its a line on the top of the tranny housing that has a metal "u" shaped end to it. im having difficulty trying to figure out where it goes. do you guys know where i could get a fac service manual from? im pretty much a noob when it comes to 240's so im kinda lost. Do any of you guys live in the Auburn Alabama area?

im not exactly sure the idle is right on. how do i change it if its not. If move the distro around a lil bit will this change the idle?

Download a Factory Service Manual from here...click on the appropriate link once the page opens - You'll need either DSL or a Cable Modem..else it will take FOREVER to download.

The line that is on tope of the tranny housing sounds like the tranny overflow line. It's there basically to let out excess fluid when the tranny's been overfilled.
As for Alabama members...you might want to check this place:

Download the FSM...see previous link. Read the section about adjusting idle & timing. Before you do though, if you haven't already done so, change ALL your filters, (fuel, oil & air), replace your distributor cap & rotor along with your spark plugs, check your spark plug wires for shorts & take a can of carburator cleaner & spray it into your throttle body. You want to clean out all the carbon buildup in the throttle body. Also pour a can of fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank. Oh, and change your motor oil...use a engine oil motor flush when you do...

All of the above mentioned will help clean out the carbon & crud that may be in the engine & fuel system. Also helps to promote a steadier idle.
Since your engine has been rained on, there's a slight chance that one of the vacuum lines could have cracked or rotted out. You'll need the FSM to trace all the vacuum lines. Just out of curiosity, did you leave the engine wiring harness on the motor when it got rained on?? If you did, then you may have issues with rotted or corroded wiring harness pins. I hope not...cuz if you did, tracing those rotted or corroded harness pins is gonna be a MAJOR pain in the ass!!.
Anyhow, hope this helps..Good luck!!

make sure you hooked up your maf in the right direction, sounds funny but I did this and my idle was way off.
