Depending on where you sign up.....Sac SCCA charges $25 for anyone 25 and below and $80 for anyone 26 and above. I think SF SCCA charges $45 for 25 and below and same for 26 and above. Check out www.sfrscca.org for more info.

For people asking about membership:
For SFR Bay Area events (NOT Sacramento or Fresno), you must be a member of SCCA, able to present official documentation (like a membership card). Most clubs and SCCA Regions don't require membership, so check with your club to see their requirements.

1st, Sacramento is a chapter of the SF region, so your membership is the same. I believe any regional SCCA license is good for scca events around the country anyway, but I'm not sure.

2nd, SCCA membership isn't required for this event.

3rd, Sign-ups are not being accepted on the day of the event

No one knew that this event would fall during finals week for a lot of colleges with a quarter system.

if it was before or even better, after, I bet there'd be at least 6 more drivers immediately.

jaae86
02-17-2005, 02:20 PM
TurDz (Chris), I know it sucks that it falls between many of you guys finals week. But, this is the only date we can get from the fairgrounds. I'm just hoping we get more people to sign up since this will be the first ever for SCCA. This will eventually open up more things for us up here in Nor-Cal.

Nzo (Chris), thanks for the continuing support. I dont want you to just sign up just because, I want you to have fun and enjoy the event. Dont sweat it. SCCA will have the event as long as we have the minimum amount of entries filled.

If this doesn't go through, it will be difficult to get something like this going again. This is a continuing problem with Nor-Cal, people like to talk but not walk the talk. I know it kinda sucks that you have to mail the check to register. But, this is something new for SCCA and Im slowly working with them on how things should be.

Paul, Dave and Al, thanks for spreading the word. Laters.

On better and important things, Sac SCCA will be giving out hats and stickers for those who had signed up. A package with all the information about the event will be provided as well. Plus more people signed up! They will be putting the drivers list on the Sac SCCA site soon. Since I will not be able to do anything at this site, for now go to http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=95526 for updates in regards to this event.

Why don't you click on the links posted in the thread by Jeff or Jay? (Hell, he even posted above you, so you'd think that you could atleat check the links before posting this kind of question)

I did check the 2nd link and it doesn't seem to be up right now. The first link that shows the "Stockton Fairgrounds" should give you a clue about the location. Not to mention who is hosting the event SFRSCCA -- San Francisco/Sacramento. Then you can do a mapquest search and see how far from SoCal you'd have to drive to participate in this event.

Seems easy, right?

At autox events at Stockton there's a security guard around, but this isn't a normal autox, there'll probably be more people (especially spectators), hopefully they up the security level to orange or something.

haha... stupid drifters and their last minute-ness... Aw good, maybe theyll have drift the day after too if that happens!! They DO have the lot reserved for both days, BUT the 2nd day supposed to be for AutoX Practice. They make more money off this event I think, but they might also want to be loyal to their paid members :/

Anyway, Anthony240 and MA71supraturbo, u guys local? I read post b4 about stockton ppl jacking stuf but wasnt sure how serious...

I autocrossed there a number of times when competing through the Sac SCCA. I never had a problem personally, but had heard enough 2nd hand stories to ensure I left nothing valuable unattended (just get a few people you know to put all your things in the same area so you all can alternate keeping an eye on them)

i wish there was some other way to register besides by mail.. sheesh. why dont i just send a telegram by horse and carriage? Looks like i might be able to make it after all. i'll be sending my payment tomorrow. hopefully it will get there on time. Also..since the registration is by mail, that leaves it open to taking too many entries. What if you get flooded by last minute reg's? I hope you guys already thought that one through. If 100 people show up....

:werd: NASA and NCDA both have electronic Registration. I just sent my payment in today also...so hopefully it will get there in time too.

I also think we should have a DRIFTERS ONLY section, to protect our valuables.

btw, VAR, i'll see what i can find on thursday as far as 205-50-15's. Ill hit ya up on AIM or PM's. how many pairs do you want?

I can leave all my shit outside when I head out to SCAL and no one even bothers to touch shit. Here in Norcal, fucking idiots peeping my shit see what they can fucking steal.

I hope nothing goes on like that on this event. I already have events going for April, May and June here in Norcal. Now that I think about it, I might hire a stupid security.

It's not norcal as much as this particular venue. It isn't a huge issue, just something to be aware of. If I thought my 8 spares and tools were going to get jacked, I wouldn't go. But I just take extra precautions when I go to the stockton fairgrounds -- thats all

Since I've been racing in Stockton, I never had any problems in regards to thief. SCCA will not be responsible for any missing items so I suggest watching your stuff carefully.

Being from Stockton, and currently living here, I can say that it's a fucking piece. But that's the city, I'm sure things would be different at an event. The fairgrounds are still kind of by the "ghetto," but you shouldn't be TOO worried.

As for me, good game timing chain. I'll still be out there, though.

We capped the maximum entries to 75! Whoa, thats a lot more people than we expected. Great job Nor-Cal peeps!!! We are working continuously to make this event fun and lots of track time. Confirmation letters for those participants who made it on the list will be mail tomorrow (3/14). For those who mail their registration and didnt make the cut, you're checks will be mail back to you. Sorry for any inconvenience, I will work with them next time on setting up an electronic registration and payment (like "myautoevents") so we can avoid this issue. See you all at the event.

Var
03-14-2005, 08:23 PM
i dont think it's a matter of being greedy. technically they are sticking to their word. if you read the original post it says *estimated* cutoff is 66 drivers. also it says the deadline will be determined by postmark date. if they had recieved 66 drivers by 3 weeks ago i'm sure they would have closed it down.

evo86
03-14-2005, 08:29 PM
Okay, here it is:

As you can see we received 75 entry's for the subject event and
probably will get a few more on Monday postmarked by March 12.

With sixty six cars the grid structure would be eleven cars in each
line with three lines running on parallel courses and the other three lines working.

With seventy five cars, the grid structure would increase by 1.5 cars
per line. If we get "a few" more on Monday I don't expect the, per
line, car count to exceed 13 cars per line.

The increase from the advertised entry cap should have a minimal impact on seat time and the Sac Chap Board of Directors has decided to try and accommodate the overage.

With the above consideration we feel obligated to, at least, review
applications with a post-mark of March 12.

I've requested to extend the track time to 5:00 pm to cover the lost time due to the added driver. They don't have a problem running the event until five if anybody's left with tires and gas, but we're not going to hold it open that late for a few diehards. Keep in mind that the next day will be SCCA practice, so we would like to go home and get some rest for the next day. I know none of you care about the SCCA practice

Agent_S13
03-15-2005, 10:22 AM
That's nice to hear about the 5 pm extension.

I'd also like to point out something else -- its 75 (or 81, whatever the cap is) drivers. Not necessarily the number of cars, due to the fact that there are a few people co-driving so there will probably be around 75 or even 70 cars out there with the other drivers riding along. That shouldn't be so bad, right?

As for people complaining, I agree... we were given a number (66) and those of us who registered early hoped that it would be capped at that. Sure the extra fee's acquired can help offset the costs but if people complain about the lack of driving time, then who's really to blame? What's the good of getting a few more drivers if no one signs up for future events because previous participants complained about only getting an hours worth of seat time?

There's a reason why Club4ag Drift Days and especially Al's private events are praised --- for their ability to balance track time and participants. People feel like they're getting their money's worth with all the track time. Its a limited driver arrangement but people don't complain. They get their spots filled, have a good time, comply with the track staff for a smooth/fun event, and get invited back for future events. Its not about quantity, but quality here. If people don't get in to an event, I doubt they'll complain too long... especially if you set up another event in a month or two. Might teach them to send in their money earlier (even without online registration).

Just playing devil's advocate today...

The guys running this event were trying, but they didnt give it too much thought. They are used to running auto-x . There was way too much dead time on the track between stupid parade laps and grid loading and unloading and the first 3 courses were poo . I think after the lunch break the day really picked up and i started enjoying myself. I was really close to just loading my car on the trailer and taking off around 11 am. Of course kudos to scca for trying to bring drifting into norcal, BUT i dont want to see drifting turn into auto-x, ie: people just settle for minimal track time because they think that's the only way. It's not..demand better events with less people.

Let me just say Good Job to Jeff and Bau promoting the event. I thank you guys for this. I know that it was off you guys hand doing the registration and running the events.

This event was the worse drift event I have ever been to. Having 81 people on the grid was just insane.
I had about 16 runs thru out the day. Having to wait for two hours just to get another 4 laps was just a mess. Even when taking your 4 laps it would take 30 minutes waiting on the grid.

I expected this since its from SCCA. The best way they know how to set up an event is Auto X style.

Will I come back for another event like this? NO.

everything Al said and then some.... major props to Jeff and Bau, but whoever designed the course does not have a clue.....wtf was the first entry of the last setup all about, not able to gain enough speed throughout the rest of the course....

Thanks for all your work getting this event off the ground -- I had a blast. I do agree with Al on many of his points -- like why bother picking up 1 cone (in the process holding up the line) instead of waiting for 2 or 3 cars to go through? Why not walk the course like an autocross and not screw around with parade laps? Why not move the grid back 20 feet and have people assigned to the same lane all day long?

Even with all that, I'm still impressed with the number of runs we had considering the 81 entrants. Ideally, I'd like to see more seat time on a practice day (you all know I need it;) ), but you did well with what you had to work with. I also liked not having to work the course, though those poor SCCA guys were working hard running down cones

The grid loading... I mean come on now. Why can't you block off lane 2/3/4/5 while 1 is running. Instead of having to unload and load the grid. Just have all lanes at the same spot. DON'T WASTE 2 HOURS UNLOADING AND LOADING THE STUPID GRID.

That was just the stupidest idea evar. I learn a lot from this event, DO NOT RUN 81 PEOPLE. DO NOT RUN 5 LANES.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200 and I just jacked your get-outta-jail freebie card, foo.

NO.

-Al

Al, you better get your ass out to the next event. People look up to you and shit... and they can learn from you. If all the experienced drivers don't go then expect more lameness from nor-cal.

yes those guys have been autox'ing for 30+ years. drifting is new to them. drifting to them is coming in too hot in a turn and getting your tail out a bit.

Maybe if we show them some option videos, some drift tengoku's or battle magazines etc, they can setup real drift configuration. for their first event it seemed to be pretty good though.

As you know in autox'ing you have to go work. I didn't see anyone working. 4 people working the track at once. what do you expect from a parking lot course. They have a lot of newbies there and SCCA has the experience to know that if you rush things, people can get hurt.

i got some pictures too. http://www.sromagazine.com/events/thumbnails.php?album=285&page=1

I posted in a different thread but didn't see this one until now.

everything like the other ppl said above. I was asking if I can manji in some of the lanes, they said ya as long as you keep it between the cones. Then I look at narrow ass lanes. I am like, "oh forget it."

Should have had 3 courses and a schedule and let the ppl handle the rest by themselves. Like Drift day events. If they don't make it to the lines, too bad. Instead they gonna hve to yell in the speaker for driver not in his car. Also you can't do any car work in the lines. Well you don't really need to change tires with taht little seat time but still... I saw ppl with smoking engine trying to fix it in the lines. Ask ppl how DD did their events and run it DD style. I believe they are trying hard thou. Very nice guys. It's their first time hosting the event. Yep the last course was stupid as fuck. It's a fuckign sweeper with like 10yards to gain speed... It's possible to carry a drift with a powerful car but come on most of the car there don't have over 150 whp...

Edit: anyone got pics or video footage of the white s14 zenki with the black vented CF hood and black front bumper with a fucked up front lip? Send them to my e-mail plz [email protected] thanks a bunch.

I thought over all there was to much down time for the event, but it was their first time with this and they really had no idea. They didn't even know to bring in more bathrooms and a big catoring truck for god sake!!! But dispite all that i thought there was a great turn out which will show them that there could be a good turn out everytime they hold one there. This was a trial for them and i think they are willing to learn and make things better for us. That place is so big that we could have just done two big courses and no little dought area! Anyway, great job to Jeff for getting them to try it out and lets cross our fingers that they want to keep it up.

yes the donut course was the lamest thing i have seen...

hopefully we can have more experienced people design the course, possible a person we can all email and give suggestions....

There was an actual bathroom, just no TRASHCANS!

also i think security should be more strict on letting people in.....during the course of the day random people from the area just came through, checking what was going on, and LINING UP ON THE GRID! WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF....I'm mainly talking about the Green Acura TL

there were quite a few people who werent registered entered the event. People were jumping in and out of the grid. Random people not in the event were doing donuts and shit in the "pit" area! And some lame kid with a red s13 fastback and kouki tails was doing donuts in the small lot over.... Good going jerk, great way to give the rest of us a bad reputation, as SCCA keeps all of our INFO on file.....

yeh, grid was pretty unorganized... I started in 1b, ran 4 times... went to help my neighbor with his mustang, came back and thot they already regrided my lane, so i followed them on a parade lap and ended up in 2b when they told me i was supposed to be 2 lanes over...

i count about 12min of driving... $75/12 = $6.25/min!?!

thats almost as bad at Autox! [$30/3min, in SF Region at least].

Personally, im hoping for more seat time, or occassional track/drift days like Grip n Slip at Thunderhill [cuz going a lot would be too expensive]. That was plenty of seat time ;]

*ditto on getting pics/clips of the burgundy s13 coupe wit Riken +0 w/ Azenis in front and zenki teardrops on rear... "ocf.berkekely.edu/~calmo" [cal motorsports club]

i had fun with the event. i was happy for my friend mark who was a beginner. we were co-driving my brown gts. that skipad was really good for him, too bad they took that out on the later part. im with westbouroughp and truenocoupe~ it was a long wait for 1 driver cars. well, i didnt felt like it cuz we had 2 driver car. jeff told me that 'they' just didnt listen to his ideas to make the event run more smoothly.

My favorite was the rotund SCCA gentleman who was flagging the start towards the later half of the day who made the following two comments:

"We should set this up like an autox and start timing these guys, I bet we could kick most of their asses in 30 seconds"

And my codriver told me about this one: "No wonder we need to keep these guys off the street"

Way to get it

But I can't thank Jeff and Bau enough for actually getting those guys to do something for Norcal drifting. Next time they just need to let them run the thing.

So big? That's the smallest venue I have ever run...Drift Days at california speedway have at least 5x that much room and they only run 50-60 cars.

Definately wasn't a huge fan of the overcrowding, small course set-up, and waiting times.

NORCAL GUYS: DONT SETTLE FOR THE QUALITY OF THIS EVENT. This event could have been so much better and you guys need to let SCCA know this. Dont complain to them though, give them suggestions. Eventually they will listen.

They haven't tasted a real drifting event, yet.

Thanks to all the peeps that participated, sorry it didn't turned out the way we wanted to. Since, I was amongst one of the drivers that was also waiting forever for a run. I felt both positive and negative sides of the event that everyone experienced. I actually enjoyed the autox more the next day after the drifting event.

Many thanks to Bau, Jack, Ian, Al, Ching and some others who helped teched cars and set up the last course. Look out for future drift events from AL and many others. NOR-CAL will be on the role this year!!!
