View Full Version : MB Battles have a new successor...

RIP MB Battle... thank you for being the transition wheel everyone in America needed.

If everyone is wondering why they can't find new MB Battles... It's because they've been replaced.

The new wheel is called MB Revolt.

(It's also $50 cheaper per wheel than MB Battles were.)

I understand the battles have been around for forever and im sure some think its gotten stagnant, but Americas tire/MB wheels discontinuing the battle makes zero sense to me with how popular these wheels are. I don't think anyone else could name another wheel that MB makes, aside from the battle (without having to go on their site, revolt excluded).

Id be willing to wager they are by far and away the most popular wheel for the altezza in north America (have you seen the is300 starter pack memes?). I see them regularly on here as well. I could see if they were releasing a v2/updated battle, but you give us that revolt garbage? c'mon. I was going to try and buy a set of battles for backups when I had the spare cash but I guess not now. I don't think ive ever been bummed about 'non-legit' wheels being discontinued. LOL

FYI, anyone looking to buy in 17, I recommend doing ASAP. Americas tire is on ebay and has good deals. The 18s are all gone. :(

not sure if any of you care anymore, but here is what happened. I got this info directly from Direct tire:

again, not sure if any of your care but ive been chatting with an Americas tire rep on another forum and here is a quick little update:
That being said, I forwarded your comments to our wheel team at our Corporate office and was told that they are exploring the possibility with the new manufacturer of bringing back the Battle in the 17x9 +30, 17x9.5 +15 and 18x9.5 +15 sizes. Fingers crossed!

I knowwwww, bummed about that as I wanted a cheap set of wheels to match my +22 rays if I ever needed spares in a pinch. but at this point in time, ill take what I can get. the altezza starter pack memes will never be the same without 9.5j +23 battles. :/

I bought them back in November the weekend after black friday

They were $400 before a $100 instant rebate

and then it included a $100 mail in rebate on top of that.

I knew they were made by A-tech so I did some browsing and found out they are also named A-tech Finalspeed Eraser Kai

Wow, those Revolts look fucking awful.

The whole reason the Battle was cool is because it was really just a CST Hyper Zero. Basically the cheapest semi-JDM wheel you can get your hands on through Discount tire under MB. Not to mention the design is pretty universal, simple multi-spoke with mild concave.

I spoke with a Discount rep last week because I had been waiting for 18's the come back in stock.

Here's what I learned quoted from the YDIW thread-

I actually called Discount the other week about this.

Apparently the company that had the rights to that design was JD Co. and they supplied the wheels to Discount.

JD Co. recently was sold to TSW as of late last year, but they have yet to do anything with the molds.

The rep said we may see them again with TSW center caps fall of 2018, or we might never see them again.

I personally think it would be insane if they didn't keep producing these. They are basically treated as a consumable by the drift community and I imaging specific sizes sell very well.

Here's hoping...

So unless TSW brings it back, they gone.

Ayeee.... If TSW brings them back that would be cool. TSW has some cool finishes I'd love to see on Battles.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/b318b0c96e33866ac5ff8a386d2a434a.jpg

But not bad for $97/ea

I wonder how long it would take for someone to pinstripe the recessed edges to match the side vents on their 3DStar kits. Lol

they just need to drop the fake rivet crap. it looks so tackey and ive seen some fall out, which makes it even worse.

some pull them all out and just leave the holes. I remember seeing someone fill the holes in with bondo or something cause he didn't like the holes. LOL

while we are talking about XXR, any of you seen the forged wheel they have now? wonder if they are going to keep pushing into that territory. I mean their slogan has something to do with lightweight wheels. none of their cast wheels are 'lightweight'.

simmode1
04-04-2018, 02:28 PM
Yeah, their forged 527Fs... Not my cup of tea, but also not the worst I've seen.

18x10+25 weighs 20.1lbs. Not bad. But it's $350/ea+ for some XXRs... I dunno about all that now...

They also got the 527D. No fake rivets there. Not forged, 24.3lbs. Not terrible for an 18.10.5 wheel.

interesting, that isn't all that bad for a cast wheel. they must have changed some of their mfg practices to lower the weight.

I think their forged stuff isn't popular because people are reluctant to spend that sort of coin on someone who is just gaining traction into the forged market. I think I would still rather buy some cast rays wheels over the forged XXR stuff (im biased as that is what I currently have). XXR has got to start somewhere though if they want to break into the forged market.

so, I gotta ask, does the forged wheel by XXR get to skirt around all the negative stuff associated with their other wheels because theyre forged? LOL

I dunno if they changed anything about their manufacturing process. It might just be the wheel design. I mean, it's derived from the older 527 wheel, which even though it wasn't forged was their lightest wheel by far. I think the 18x9.75 weighed 23.6lbs. So they just added .75 more width, changed the offset/backspacing to give it a big lip and BOOM, 24.3lbs wheel.

I also don't think they're skirting anything negative about their rep. Tons of JDM purists remain staunchly against them and offering a forged wheel ain't really changing their minds. But even if they do grow in popularity, it'll still be like looking at the success of once-trash brands like ISIS/ISR, Megan, CXRacing, ect.

"legitimacy" is subject. these dumbass 16-20 year olds getting their first 240s and seeing their "role models" rocking these names, they're gonna associate that with quality. again there's power in advertising when you hear about it left and right.

although, megan and CXracing i'd NEEEEEVER touch, the ISR brand is in every gaw damn youtuber build, so after a while, it gets you thinking, "ehhh i might buy those suspension arms for my shitty s13."

I found out last week that the following Battle SKU's should be available within the next couple months, albeit not in black.

yeah, im just not sure what the back and forth is. i believe discount tire is a pretty big company, so maybe not all the sales reps are up to date on their info.

edit:
rep got back to me:
My apologies for the confusion - I can see how that sentence is confusing!

Let me start over...

Before the MB Battle line was sold, the Battle was offered in over 15 sizes/finishes, or if you will, part numbers. The new manufacturer killed off the sizes that weren't high volume movers and is only producing the popular sizes and finishes.

As of right now, the 17x9 ET30 in bronze, 17x9.5 ET+15 in bronze, 18x8 ET30 in gunmetal and 18x8 ET+43 in matte black are currently available from the manufacturer. 5-114.3 applications only.

so it looks like they even killed off more sizes than what i was told was in post 52. bummer. no more 18x9.5. :(
