Hey guys/girls,

So I've been a member for quite some time now, I have owned quite a few 240's one of which is my first build ever and that is my signature, it holds a special place in my heart. I have always thought it would be cool to do a build thread about one of my cars, simply for the purpose of being able to reflect on what the car was when I received it, and how far it has come. I've only ever done one before and that was on an old site from Michigan called Xceedspeed, but that was a failure for me since I only did photos from the beginning (then forgot) and added photos of it completed :picardfp: ashamed of myself!! But since that long time ago, I've completed several cars for customers, (Side Builds) as well as one for myself, that one being a 1994 Montego Blue FD Rx7 W/LS1 and T56.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4679/38463208245_2b2e90c79e_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ARZLR)

So the most common question I receive from people now that I sold my Rx7, is "Why in the world would you sell your Rx7 and go back to a 240" and there is a simple answer to that question. I'm dumb and hooked on these cars for whatever reason! I'm not lying either, I truly love these cars, everything about them, so for most of you this will be a boring thread. I don't do crazy aero packages, I don't do widebody, I don't drift, I love these cars the way they were intended and I have an OCD complex about my cars being extremely complete.

SO, now that you have a little back story on me, I'm going to try and catch you up to date on my current project and oh what a fight it has been! It seems as though when you think you have life figured out, you underestimate all of the little things that commonly stand in your way. So let us begin, I sold my Rx7 in August of 2015, In September of 2015 I purchased my beauty, a 1989 Nissan 240sx with most of the Type-X aero package. I purchased it from Oklahoma since here in Michigan, everything is rotted to pieces.

For everyone who skipped the above reading material (I don't blame you) here are some photos of when it got back to my house. (also screwed up and immediately started ripping it apart before photoshoot, it did have hood and mirrors on it haha

Naturally, since we've worked on 240's together and have always shared the same passion for these teenager beaters, my friend Damon had to show up to start some disassembly and go for a quick Joy-Ride.

This is where the plot thickens, I had only driven this car a total of 3 times at this point, once around work where it was delivered from Oklahoma, once home from work, and then once with Damon going for a quick cruise. (where the speedometer broke on us haha) So naturally, I needed to start ordering parts for this thing, but most of all, get it stripped for paint!!!!!

IF YOUR STILL WITH ME SO FAR, this is where the story really gets me going. I dropped the car off for paint beginning of 2016, and unlike what happened to me, I will spare you the waiting and agony and fast forward to June 2017 where I demanded money back from the painter who had strung me along the whole time. Now this wasn't just an ordinary guy, he was also the guy who painted my Rx7 pictured above, he was a friend. So I figured this was going to go as smooth as before and nothing to worry about. Well folks, Tim was dead wrong about that! To save my blood pressure STILL I will skip to where I paid another good friend (who didn't screw me) a good chunk of change to undo the terrible engine bay paint work that was already done, and finish painting the entire car for me.

How it looked rolling out of my shop after I received it from painter #1

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4733/38463284805_8f245a6987_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ASowR)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4686/38463284075_e77a4da712_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ASojg)

After a few weeks at his shop, doing his thing

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4692/38633050714_b38b20a5fa_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21RSu2h)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4733/38633053814_0ce868dd69_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21RSuWJ)

And after a few months I had at least the chassis back!!!!!!!! normally he wont do cars like this where people see the in between, but since I know the process and don't sweat stuff, I get a pass I suppose.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4733/38633059544_f640e7e530_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21RSwDw)

After He got me my doors back and we put them on, For most people this wouldn't be such a big deal, but mind you I had been staring at a corpse of a car for over a year straight, being told it would get done only for it to continue sitting. To be honest, I decided to part the whole car out when I finally put my foot down and demanded money back from the first painter. So a lot of stuff sold REALLY fast, but when I was removing some stuff, I decided that I shouldn't give up on it, I had done that with far to many 240's prior and it wasn't going to happen this time!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4729/38633063054_a7486f36c7_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21RSxG3)

So now that the car is finally making progress on being beautiful, my motivation has come back to life! So if you read before, I sold my engine setup while fighting parting it out. So that makes way for having to go get this new setup! An S14 SR setup!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4642/24476847967_2a93428716_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DhWf98)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4589/25472037058_cda0e118a3_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/ENSRbJ)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4688/39340524101_f7755cfd23_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22Wotdi)

Now that the engine was safely home, it was time to take a peek at a few things, and the seller was very honest about everything, it has the S15 Turbo on it, and behind the transmission was a brand new spec clutch, and everything was really clean. Now, there are some mixed reviews on spec clutches, but since it is already staring me in the face, I think it will be put to use.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4737/38463309145_8c63811b4a_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ASvLv)

When you work on cars non stop, you take a little time for the small things, like when you do a deep clean on the shop and don't have another car taking up space!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4596/25472051528_fd0a3121f9_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/ENSVud)

So earlier I stated I build my cars to be complete. That means everything start to finish is quality. It will have sound deadening, A/C, Heat, Full quality interior and also 180sx glass on the exterior to match the type-x aero package! With that said, it was finally time to have the glass put back in after so long without it!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4685/24476850057_1296a0a16f_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DhWfLa)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4637/24476851057_9326ce0f66_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DhWg4p)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4641/24476852927_d5cc6927b4_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DhWgBD)

So, now that the car is painted and some things can go back on for good, its starting to look like a car again! which makes me extremely happy, So the type-x wing and tails found their home again! (Sorry for late night crappy cell pic)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4682/39340523221_139c519eb3_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22WosX8)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4736/39340527031_378f2b8bed_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22Wou5P)

So with the fresh paint now, I couldn't stand the nasty door seals, hatch seal, body seals, and window trim, so I ordered all new!

I have two sets of them brand new in box sitting at home. I'll try to get part numbers on them as soon as I get a chance.

There may be old stock sitting around somewhere.

So, if you've been paying attention while reading this, you'll know that I had a full year of down time acquiring parts for the car, first things first, I said the car would have full functioning A/C, so what good is having that if you don't control it with the factory digital climate control!?

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4647/39340480421_7dd1b78da2_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22Wofec)

Comfortable A/C isn't really that cool if your interior is trashed, so I had the rear seats re-upholstered and the door cards done to match along with new carpet front and rear, also a minty clean dash to replace the crappy cracked one!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4682/39340483101_4023573fcc_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22Wog2p)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4680/39340482061_cf9ebd0af3_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22WofHt)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4679/39340485071_241cba9e61_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22WogBn)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4588/39340486911_21b8a33ccf_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22Woha6)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4738/39340495071_be16f91c94_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22WojzM)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4685/27563867039_8de965cc28_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/HZJ2mT)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4641/27563874739_30fa1446bc_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/HZJ4DD)

So now that there is all the necessary stuff to make the interior nice with climate control, staring at the factory cluster wouldn't cut it, so since I had Broadfield do my FD custom cluster, I said screw it and had him do another setup for this car!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4730/38463282165_2c2f97d001_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ASnKk)

So by now your probably catching on that literally everything is getting redone. And now were getting close to being completely caught up, these are a few of the things I just did while I had the week off in-between Christmas and upcoming new years!

Now is where I start taking care of the underside of the car, the whole suspension setup.

One of my best friends and fellow super clean S13 owner Greg had the week off as well, so he stopped by a few times this week to lend a helping hand and also hangout with a few beers!

Dropped the whole rear subframe for new arms and powder coating and general cleaning

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4595/38463371755_2dabb7d4f0_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21ASQnZ)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4731/38671734164_65fa787ec1_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21VhKgj)

I ordered Whiteline Subframe bushings in anticipation of doing this, and boy was I glad that I did, the rear bushings were COMPLETELY shot!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4725/27602841169_09c1a90c0b_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/J4aM1D)

Next the front subframe for the same procedure, powdercoating, new balljoints, and general cleaning

Got the transmission Jack underneath, comes in super handy!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4591/39379847441_79e8d5681a_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22ZS1EV)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4682/39379828641_5955db9025_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22ZRV5M)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4682/27602919879_9520c2180e_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/J4bbpH)

Now the Engine Bay is really empty!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4686/39350123682_6db3d086bf_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/22XeEQj)

Since both subframes, powerbrace and everything that's not being replaced is going to powder coat, I decided it was a good time to start doing some cleaning and undercoating on the whole car.

Out comes the gas tank

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4739/27602925689_c7d2d0f13d_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/J4bd8T)

Now to start cleaning and undercoating, I'm using a brush and can of undercoating which will make it almost impossible to get this stuff on fresh paint! also removed the front fenders again and placed them in a secure location! haha

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4739/38671783564_02911de9fd_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21VhZX3)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4729/38671768814_b3cd9a2b97_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21VhVyJ)

Now I can show off the fancy new suspension pieces and hardware!

Stance XR1 coilovers, with downstar anodized washer with stainless nut

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4636/38671671594_8282f4573b_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/21VhqEw)

Ignore the Dust all over the car, I wont wipe it off until spring when I wash it so the paint doesn't get a bunch of fine scratches in it

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4690/24514527647_fd22613f0b_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/DmgmZM)

Ordered and received all new suspension arms from voodoo, great quality looking stuff, only issue is the company I ordered from (will remain un-named) screwed up and sent me 2 of the hard clear color which I requested, while the other 2 are in Raw. Sorting that out now, company is taking care of it no issues.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4732/25510385018_afb28b5bab_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/ESgoGs)

Now if you made it this far, you are all up to date on whats going on with the car as of 12/29/2017, I will be posting the rest of the updates throughout the thread as I go now!

A last little Picture for you warm weather guys, this is what you have to do when you live in Michigan, make yourself a nice path to the shop! haha

Thanks man, Crimsonrockett is correct there is old stock laying around and its quite time consuming doing all the searching through diagrams for stuff, but its worth it, I also did new door strikers. now they open and shut like a dream! haha here is a website I use a lot, https://parts.nissanusa.com/nissanparts/index.cfm?action=replacement&siteid=14&groupid=N&sectionid=985&partcode=K3411&selYear=1993&selOEModel=S13 but there is lots of others

Really appreciate the love guys, keeps me fueled to keep moving!

Nothing better than a simple street car with all the right quality parts in all the right places. So ready to have a hatch again one day to do kouki 180 things with...

chassis and engine pay paint is fucking flossy, and the engine setup is a winner. Interior shaping up to be really nice too. Will be cool to see this come together

Happy New Year!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments and support, I truly do appreciate it. Wish everyone the best for 2018.

Short little update here, nothing to crazy exciting, but I had some time before all the holiday festivities to add in some sound deadening.

I went with Ballistic Mat, after installing I can say it is really great quality, time consuming and extremely sticky! haha (also one box of 9 sheets only gets you to the hatch area so you'll need 2)

Really like the paint color and love the fact you installed the rear valances without the center piece. I've always thought it made the car look a bit cooler.

Quick question about that dynomat if you dont mind. I usually keep a jack in a duffle bag in the trunk of my car incase of emergencies. However I hate it when I hit a bump you can hear it in the back making noise from the bump (and this is with me having full interior including rear seats). Do you think installing Dynomat would help reduce that noise significantly?

Thanks, I did lay it over the existing sound deadening, I figure a little extra won't hurt, and it's not thick enough to get in the way

Thanks, sorry but the center part of the rear valences is going on haha. I have all of the oem type x painted and tucked away for install later. As far as the sound deadening is concerned for your issue, it's really meant to dampen vibrations and cut down on road noise as well as a little extra heat barrier, but it won't help when you have something bouncing in the hatch area, my suggestion is to secure it better

Nice build! :)

Thanks man!

Hopefully you do something in the trans tunnel and floor to keep the heat down...its likely going to heat up the tar or rubber based adhesive material and make it stinky/messy.

Food for thought.

Considering DynaMat and similar products like the ones Tim is using are designed to help with blocking out heat in addition to unwanted road noise, I find it hard to believe this would be an issue. I guess both of us will find out this spring though! haha.

First, Thanks everyone for the awesome comments, makes me smile! :2f2f:

Sorry for the delay, been extremely swamped, but I have been doing little things. I loaded up the truck and took the suspension and all its goodies to work with me. Now its time to knock out all the nasty bushings and ball joints to prep for powder coat and all the nice new bushings!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4655/28039241499_62a3313d53_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJrCg)

First thing to do was get rid of the nasty ball joints in the control arms!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4717/28039246809_44ec3952b8_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJtcP)

I brought these all to work so I could use my super awesome snap-on ball joint press!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4700/28039248509_4cafdb3bd5_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJtH8)
Next was the rear spindle bushings, kind of ran into a small hiccup, turns out the opposite end of the ball joint press gets narrower than the opening a little ways in, I thought it got stubborn towards the end which isn't normal, and I soon found out why!

Uh oh!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4705/28039251099_de5ffcd0d8_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJutM)

I took it over to the press and got it out fairly easy fortunately!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4611/28039253089_618fea530b_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJv56)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4661/28039254989_925f417442_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJvCR)

Next in line is the subframe bushings, those went extremely smooth which I was really happy about!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4768/28039244019_69b6400d5a_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJsnH)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4615/39786209822_1a91ea444f_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23BLJ3S)

Save the hardest for last they always say........pretty sure that's now how it goes haha The rear control arm bushings were an extreme pain in the butt! I'm going with factory style bushings with the complete sleeve, not urethane style that require greasing since this is a street car I don't want to be tearing it down a bunch for maintenance. So that means I had to get the whole sleeve out, which was an eternal pain, but I got it done!

Famous burning bushing picture!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4720/28039257889_7cc0eebebb_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJwuR)

This is why I wear gloves at work, my hands would be super nasty!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4755/28039261829_997f8123f7_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/JHJxEM)

Now everything is at powder coat and should be back soon looking brand new!

Big News! I ordered my wheels and they will be here in 8-10 weeks, they cost quite a bit but I'm glad they're on the way since they are literally my dream wheel! The goal for the car is June 9th weekend to be driving it......so I have to get my ass in gear!

Great news, all of the stuff I gave to my friend for powder coating has returned and looks awesome! Very happy with how they turned out!

Pressed in my new Whiteline sub-frame bushings, they look and feel nice and are about 1000% better than the old ones which fell apart upon removal.

I finished up the sound deadening in the rear area of the car from where I ran out and had to order more. I also had a Few minutes this morning to start getting the carpet installed.......I must say this proved to be more of a PITA than I gave it credit for in my mind haha

Sorry for the super crappy last pics, don't know why they didn't turn out worth a crap! Oh Well that's about it for this update, I have until April/May until my wheels get here to have all my suspension work done so I can bolt them up and set some ride height! Time to get to work!

Hey Guys, Thanks again, been a while but I assure you that I haven't been slacking. Super busy around here and haven't gotten as much done as I hoped, but so is life! With my wheels arriving in 4 Weeks or so things have got to start picking up the pace!

Since so much is going on at once I suppose i will start with my the fuel tank, it was obviously really nasty, unsure of the pump and wiring, and had half a tank of old fuel in it, all of this had to be fixed!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/810/40615621234_771f863bd1_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/24T4FaC)

Ripped off the crappy foam padding, pulled the sending unit and started getting rid of the old fuel

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/783/27456890308_9602c8dc00_c.jpg

Started scraping off the thick crappy undercoating, and some over spray, nature of a full paint job!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4706/40644828941_7444ab87ed_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/24VDnAM)

Then it was time to spray some new rubberized undercoating, install my new Walbro 255 pump setup, also had some sound deadening left over so I used that in place of where the foam padding was. Also cleaned and painted the tanks front plastic shield in satin black.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/821/40432993065_744fec8a3a_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/24AVEb6)

Since that was all taken care of, my rear differential was in need of some cleaning and paint work as well, also curious to which differential it was, since it had 5-bolt axles and factory is 6 bolt. In the for sale ad from when I purchased it stated it was an R32 GTR diff, once I pulled it I found that was not the case! When I drained the fluid and opened it up, and did some searching. It has a 48/11 Ring gear, which makes it the JDM 180sx VLSD. Pretty happy about that since this is a 180sx clone! VLSD worked well before I parked it, but it was only driven twice by me haha Im one of those people who needs to know every single detail about his car, so now knowing for certain makes me happy!

All cleaned up with fresh fluid ready to go!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/805/41286381912_9ac57e2d78_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/25UkuWU)

Also decided to put on my new OEM sunroof seal, the old one was split and nasty, the new one really makes a difference!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/797/26457353177_ec034ea9b6_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/GiWRkF)

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/805/27457083408_fbde82e16f_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/HQhJiN)

Had a decent setback, got all of my new bushings, and balljoints for my arms to install, installed all of them until I got to the rear lower control arm bushings, they sent the wrong ones and I didn't catch on until I went to install, and once returned the wrong ones, the ones I needed are on 2 week backorder :ugh:. But here is a nice pic of the rear knuckle bushings installed! I went with hardened rubber for all my replacement bushings, since I don't want any squeaks/binds from urethane, or the hassle of taking them apart to grease them repeatedly. Remember, this is just a clean street car!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/895/41329349741_fef61a5d43_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/25Y8HMx)

Since everything underneath is becoming new, the steering rack needed to be addressed, it was nasty, and the outer tie rod ends were falling off. I ordered new Nissan OEM dust boots along with a P2M Inner and outer tie rod set, they look beefy and remind me of Tein inner and outer set's I have run in the past, but since those are discontinued, I decided to try these! They look amazing so I'm happy with them so far.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/886/39519388210_45ebfa5839_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23dcchf)

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/888/40615452884_e4ea4551f7_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/24T3P83)

Group shot of all my stuff waiting to be installed. Also ordered new suspension Techniques sway bars for the front and rear since mine were old and nasty (catching on to a trend with the underside of this car?? haha all old and nasty!) You can also see the new axles I ordered, since the old ones were split and slinging grease everywhere. I will keep them and reboot and paint them later for spares, saving time for now haha Also ordered these fancy front fender braces, which also got sent to powder coating. I have a fetish for clean gloss black underside, probably because I'm so used to rusty nasty greasy normal cars!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/901/39519408210_2a504d5692_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23dcie5)

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/883/39519292120_01b3883606_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23dbGHw)

I'll be doing a full Z32 brake setup the whole way around the car, it came with 26mm aluminum fronts on it already, obviously not the color I want, so I took them apart for a rebuild and powder coating, along with the nasty Z32 rear calipers I purchased used. Here's a pic of them torn apart in their bags ready to go to powder coating!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/795/26457227137_1683899f28_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/GiWcSz)

Since the rear lower control arm bushings were back ordered, waiting on z32 rear parking brake setup and cables, and calipers heading to powder coating. I moved on towards my interior. I love music and so does my wife, so I purchased a set of 6.5" Kicker Speakers for all around, along with speaker plate adapters which made install a breeze!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/864/39519349920_de16c093c9_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23dbZU5)

I was then able to put the door panels on!

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/783/40433161385_8a6e3518b9_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/24AWwda)

I was also able to snag a full JDM seatbelt setup from my friend Greg, which also used to be my friend Damon's as well, keeping them in the family! Since Greg is keeping his interior full minty original I lucked out because they are harder to come by now. But that posed one problem.....Headliner, since the JDM are thinner and expose the roof. Lucky for me, my neighbor owns a trim and upholstery shop so I took the headliner out and handed it to him, I picked out dark grey suede for the headliner, and he also dyed the trim and sunroof seal darker to blend better as well! Also did the sunroof cover, I think it turned out well!

Hey what's up man, CamryOnBronze mentioned in another thread that you had your original headliner extended for the 180sx manual seatbelts. Just wondering if perhaps your neighbor mentioned to you how he extended the edges?

I was thinking of heading to my local pick n pull and pull a random nissan headliner and cut out what I need to extend my headliner. Just wondering how it was done, but I have a general idea on how to do it.

With how much I've had going on I needed to make a bunch of progress in a short period so I didn't become discouraged and wind up doing the infamous part-out haha. So I took today off to make stuff happen! And I was accompanied by 2 of my great friends Damon and Greg who both took the day off as well! Now that's friendship! Most people don't talk about the lows of a build like this, where it just becomes taxing on your mind and especially your wallet. So having such awesome friends who will grind it out in the shop with you is too cool and they need to know how much it is appreciated!

The new goal is to have it done by October and not to rush it. If I can enjoy a solid month of driving it this year that will make me a happy man!

Hey Guys, Happy New Year!

Sorry for the long delay, I totally missed my deadline I set for myself, (I think it was June 2018.....) I suck! So you guys know I haven't been just sitting around with my thumb in wrong places. I actually bought a couple more 240's and have been doing a ton of side work. For those interested I bought an S13 Coupe for drifting, and a minty S14 Zenki 2 owner car for me to possibly do an epic build with later.....super thankful for an understanding wife! Speaking of wife, we are expecting a child as well, due in July....so I decided I really need to get my ass moving when it comes to building this car!

Well making a baby and buying/building customer cars isn't the only thing i've been doing over the past 8 months. I also ordered a ton of parts for my engine. I really don't want a crazy high horsepower car that requires attention all the time, If you've been paying attention I want a reliable, fun, ultimate street car. So I decided to go simple, refresh the engine in all aspects. So all of these parts are Brand New: Apexi' Headgasket, Oil Pump Cover, Water pump, ARP head studs, Timing chain, Chain Tensioner, Guides, Greddy Intake Mani, Nismo thermostat, Oil pickup, Garrett 2871r w 64ar, Tomei Poncams, ISR braided turbo lines, Drift Freaq Full Engine/Trans Mounts, Greddy Oil Pan.

So I started tearing down the engine to get the cylinder head off to the machine shop so I could spend the long weekend putting it all back together.

I was very pleased when I got the engine apart at how clean everything was and the shape it was in, she's a healthy ole girl!

Head back from the machine shop looking good.

Had to get all my goodies out and ready for their place! It's fun opening boxes and finally being able to put the pieces to use!

Time to start re-assembly, gave all the surfaces a good cleaning before applying "the right stuff grey" sealer. I could be a spokesperson for the stuff, works awesome!

I did have a minor setback with my valve cover, the one that came with the engine was freshly powdercoated white, and whoever did it sprayed media throughout the inside of it and left a bunch of residue, so not wanting to risk not being able to get it all out and running it through my nice clean engine, I found another cover. I then sent it to TRG coatings (came highly recommended through a good friend) to be powdercoated. Ford Tuxedo Black, pictures do not do it justice! I can also recommend now

Well that's all I've got for the time being, plan on getting the engine and everything installed in the next few weekends before I leave for Montana again for my annual ski trip! Thanks for cheering me on and I hope you enjoy!

2.) This is worthless without pics...but I'd love to share negotiating tactics with you. I still want to buy an S15...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sure is great having you checking in on me big boy! Since you asked, you shall receive. Here is the S14 on a lift at my work after I bought it, and my coupe I haven't really taken pics of since its a shell getting turned into a drift car, but you can see it in the back grounds of the following post when the engine gets put in.

Ok, seems like I'm actually making progress lately, motivation finding me and I need to keep it going, also having my friends push me along always helps haha
So I am PUMPED to say the engine and transmission are now mounted in the car for good! It feels amazing since the car has been apart so long to finally see the heart sitting in its place. Long overdue and I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel, just have to keep plugging away and making it happen!

Few good pics of us dropping it in place! Thanks for the photos Damon!

Unfortunately nothing goes perfect, once the engine and trans were securely in place, I went to rotate the engine to tdc to put the CAS on, I started rotating and the engine stopped. Working on cars for a living it was definitely a mechanical stoppage. I know the timing is perfect but I doubt myself anyways, I cant figure out for the life of me what is causing it to turn a ways then stop suddenly. I removed the started even though we were positive that wouldn't be it since it was retracted upon install. Still no luck!! So out the engine came, Seized gearbox? We pull it out and separate the engine from the transmission, engine rotates beautiful, rotate the input shaft on the transmission, rotates beautiful! Started looking around for points of metal contact on the flywheel and clutch, and bam! the 2 bolts that hold the slave cylinder in place were threaded in all the way with no slave cylinder.....just far enough to contact the clutch in certain spots.........:picardfp: Was happy it was only that and an easy fix....frustrated we risked scratching the engine bay paint job for something that would've taken 2 seconds to do in the car haha

My feelings about the situation

Valve cover securely on, Mazworx valve cover hardware installed. I'd say she looks GOOOOOOOD!

Finally going to update this bad boy with some quality content. I just finished re-reading some of my content to get myself back in the mode for this update, and it has really come quite a long ways since the beginning, it's funny because even though this build has taken me YEARS, which is way longer than my patience usually allows, looking back at the pictures it feels like just yesterday. I am getting down to crunch time though, as this car needs to get running and driving ASAP, I miss the driving I do for fun and the escape of it. Well now that I'm done blabbing, let us get to the part where I update what I've done to the ole girl!

Well since the last update was the engine being installed into the bay, I've since purchased a lot of parts, and installed most of the engine bits.

First things, you've all kind of gathered I really like to powdercoat parts, I like the cleanliness, its lasting ability and it just plain looks sweet haha. So I sent out my Greddy intake manifold, fuel rail and injector caps for powdercoat prior to installation. I went with Viking grey and tuxedo black combo to match the valve cover. I'm not one for super flashy or bright off colored engine bays, I prefer my stuff to look tidy, hope you all agree that it does!

I've also installed a brand new brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder, couldn't have old cruddy stuff standing out! Also purchased a UAC wiper motor cover and painted the motor cover. Also installed the turbo and ceramic coated manifold and am very pleased at how clean it all looks.

I also purchased quite a few goodies, very positive I will forget to post a lot of them, full disclosure in the beginning about not being good at these haha

Fancy lug nuts for the fancy wheels!

Got myself a Chase Bays power steering setup as well, this was a straight forward install, minus the reservoir feed hose to pump, I had to build my own line with a different fitting, and it still has a slight kink to it (I don't see this posing an issue but time will tell I guess)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49736849972_42a5f3cdb1_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2iM5mG5)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49736517866_48cc71b702_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2iM3DY7)

I also purchased new coolant hoses for under the intake manifold so I won't have to worry about old brittle hoses cracking and blowing coolant everywhere. The factory turbo inlet was also a piece I wanted so I could maintain factory appearance and breather tube location.....this proved a waste of time since the factory elbow caused my intake pipe no clearance past the power steering reservoir. So I had to make my own! Also finalized all my piping for the intercooler and shipped it all off to powdercoat! Made a bracket to attach the intake to so it isn't flopping all over the place, and bought a new replacement Apexi filter
