Lets put this topic to rest please!

What are the differences between SR motor(s13 red/black top, s14 and s15) coolant temp sensors.
I know there is a skinny type and fat type.
What cross reference usdm car coolant temp senor can be used for which motor?

I ordered a 91 240 sensor yesterday from local parts store and its a fat type. I have a s13 red top and apparently it needs a skinny type.

I am referring to the ECU sensor and not the gauge sensor.

Can we nail down the accurate info and put this topic to rest?

Fat and skinny refer to the o2 sensor, usually, not the coolant sensor.

There are square plug and round plug sensors for the SR, depending on early or late model.

They're the same.

You can look the part numbers up on Rockauto or even the Autozone website.

only difference in temp sensors is the connector,

S13 & S14 SR20 use the same sensor

S15 uses different connector

Thanks for the replies everyone. I went to local auto parts store and they provided me one for a 91 240. The brass sensor was shorts but larger diameter. I went to nissan dealer and ordered one for same car and it came skinny and longer. Short fat one did not work in the car because apparently it has different resistance. Replaced mine with the oe dealer one and car is running better.

Early S14 is the same as S13.
The S14a (Kouki) and S15 are the same.

Sometimes called "early model" red rectangular connector,
and "late model" grey oval connector.

Bam!
I saw that reference also. Early model and late model pertains to the plug type then. Great info.
Thank you
