View Full Version : Z32 brakeswap seized anchor bolt

During my attempt to install the z32 ebrake i was tightening my kingpin/anchor bolt nut only for it to rotate and hit the splash shield. Now im trying to rotate it back but cant as its seized to the knuckle and because its seized i cant remove it. Ive doused the anchor bolt and the knuckle with pb blastet only to no avail, its been 2 days and im sure its settled. Arms and a bfg made no effort what so all. So what do? I can get a pic but im sure you can use your imagination.

Heres something ive done thats better but got nothing out of it..
Pb blaster and a bfg

So you have the nut off, but the anchor is stuck in the knuckle?

Maybe thread the nut back onto the anchor so it's flush with the end of the threads, and hit it with a hammer. That should be enough to pop it out. If the shoes and springs are still attached, maybe just hit it carefully. Just enough to get it unstuck and able to rotate again. Or take everything apart and give it hell.

Then, once you've straightened the anchor out, and are going to tighten the nut down, wedge something like a flat head screwdriver between the anchor and backing plate to keep it from twisting as you tighten the nut.

Dealt with this one too many times (especially on east coast cars).

No one bothers adding some anti seize on there.

Another thing that helps is removing all of the rust that has built up in the hole on the S-chassis knuckle before installing the anchor bolt. Once you remove the rust, the anchor bolt fits pretty easily. I used a Dremel with a sanding drum.

Torch and hammer.

Dealt with this one too many times (especially on east coast cars).

No one bothers adding some anti seize on there.

No torch so I stuffed it in an oven and hammered it out easily.

Of course once something is fixed, I had to shit on something else; I resat the anchor bolt, tightened the nut and boom shes stripped to smithereens. Since that happened, I just used the bolt & nut from my other side ebrake assembly that I have not put on yet. Guess I'm LF anchor bolt & nut pm me :facepalm:
