Sr20det starter compatability with sohc ka starter

I have read that we can use hitachi sohc KA starters on our Sr20det by swapping KA parts over to SR. That’s great and all, but if I buy a sohc hitachi starter from a parts store can I get away with just swapping the SR20DET head on the KA starter? Sounds easy enough; Furthermore, I want to do it this way because not only is my starter not engaging (frozen up and works if hit by hammer), I believe the solenoid is going out. If anybody has a part number for the solenoid alone I’ll try that first, but if just a head swap works I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. My sr starter is 23300-F5200. Thanks.

sohc starters do work... u just have to swap the head, the brushes and the solenoid.

the brushes are usually the first to go bad, but solenoids can blow also.
