View Full Version : Other Nissan Keys?

Simple question: Would any newer Nissan vehicle keys work in the S13? The keys I have are just plain brass colored metal and rather boring. I was hoping a newer Maxima, Altima, etc. key would work if cut to match my tumblers. The main problem being the grooves cut in the sides of the key.
I'm sure some of you will say, WTF?!??!!11 it's just a damn key dude. I understand that, I'm just looking for other options besides shelling out $50 for the Nismo key.
If no newer key fits I could always just have both doors, the ignition, and trunk redone by a locksmith to fit a 350Z key or something, but with the money spent in that endeavor, I could just buy the Nismo key.

Key blanks for pretty much any Nissan built before the late '90s will work in a 240.
My red S13 had keys with nice oval-shaped plastic tops on them. My white one just has that crappy brass key, though.

I've been thinking about that too. I suppose the keys should work if the dimensions are the same.
I guess the best place to go would be the Nissan dealerships and check out what kind of keys they have. Better bring a ruler or a micrometer to measure the key.

I have to check on the date when they went to the chipped keys(~99). Anything before then should work.
The 350z will not work.

walmart sells keys that look like black OEM nissan keys. They are just labeled as "Nissan" on the key display rack. They just dont say nissan on the actual key. They feel strong and durable too. I think they were less than 2 dollars each!

for the record i was hoping to get key blanks and a lock cylindar kit with my koukis'. That way I could cut the key to my ignition and just build the lock cylindar to accept the same key. Not the case... the keys were pre-cut and the lock cylindar was already built.

Depends. Most looked just like our stock keys. Some 180 keys had 180sx written on them and were more rounded.

The s13 silvia keys are round and say SILVIA on them with a chrome outline. Hard to see in the pic cause my camera sucks.

I'm gonna go to the Nissan Dealership this weekend and talk to the parts Dept. See if any of the keys look close. I'll let you guys know. Thanks for all the responses.
