me and a friend took off my head about this time last year and we didnt line up the marks on the timing chain because we couldnt find them... we looked for almost 20 minutes turning the crank by hand, and we ended up marking the chain and the gears so we could later line up the things like in the FSM....
BUUUTTT... now that i have my financials situated and a new head (almost a year later) , THE MARKS ARE GONE! i'm not sure how big a deal this is, but i wanted to check with you all before i ruin my new head :-/
any help would be MUCH appreciated....

Set engine to TDC, #1
Remove the lower cover, line up the lower chain per the FSM (there are dots on the gears that correspond with the odd colored links on the chain).
Then you can install the upper chain and the cams in a similar fashion.

They sell a timing chain kit on ebay for $130ish, if you're putting on a new head you could replace the chain, sprockets and guides at the same time. The new chain will have off colored links and the sprockets will have a clear mark on them.
