for some reason my guage cluster doesnt work. i got a new one from this guy in japan. that was the only place i could find it because its a hud guage cluster. anyway i thought if i put it in it would work. some people said it wont read out with the sr swap, but i have a friend with it and it works. i need advice of what to look for that might be causing why it not reading anything. both the mph and rpm cluster arent workin, everything else is.

actually i have a 90 model stock hud and i got a newer one thinking it would work but it dont so i dont know what to do, i asked the peeps who dropped in the engine and they said they know they set the wires up right for the hud cluster, any way i dont know what to do, im gonna try hooking a tach up for now. im gonna try doging the cops a few more times not knowing how fast im going.

If you put an SR into an 89-90, the tach won't work because the signal from the sensor is too weak for the tach. I believe that the KA24E's used a 12V pulse train and the KA24DE's and SR's use a 5V pulse train (don't quote me on those numbers, my memory is a little fuzzy). Anyway, you need a tachometer from either an SR or DE. I've got the same problem, but it will just have to wait until I get a job. However, your speedometer should work if it is hoooked up correctly. You might want to double check the wiring on it.

Ive seen SOHC tachs work with sr though, my friend got his swap done by evolution motorsports in sacramento and his stock sohc works.

i got an SR from a 91-94 180sx and the cluster plugged right in to my 89-90 dash wiring....all i needed was the plugs that go from the back of the gauges into the dash harness. they all work fine. the digital readout works and the tach works...just cant get the damn lights to come on when i turn on the headlights. ill have to troubleshoot that one

Are you sure that they didn't swap the tach at the same time? Every thing I've read says that the KA24E's and CA's used a different tach signal than the DE's and SR's, and that when you do a SR swap, you need to put in either a DE or SR tach:
