View Full Version : Help, booboo on the alternator harness :)
When removing my motor the other day I pulled off several plugs on the alternator; I've got the new motor installed and the same alternator swapped over to the new motor... this is a s13 KA24DE folks
-One was a harness plug, looked like a two prong
-One I'm pretty sure was a black/yellow thick cable; runs towards the battery tray and I'm pretty sure thats one grounding cable
-Black terminal with a rubber covering and a small 10mm nut on it
-Small black wire with 8mm screw, pretty sure this was a ground too
on the small black wire with the 8mm screw, i was removing it and the screw broke off; so the screw body is still inside the alternator...
can i put this little wire somewhere else? there's another long 8mm screw on the top-passengerside of the alternator, can i use it?

pics would really help....
but im going to say that i think your right in thinking that its a ground, but id be 100% sure before doing anything :)

That wire is the ground for the alternator, so as long as you've got it connected to the body of the alternator you should be ok. That screw you've singled out I know nothing about though. I assume its not that 10mm screw which the alternator charges the battery though though.
That big black cable sounds like the cable that attaches to the upper intake above the alternator...a big screw holds it in nearest the battery.

Wire colours would help, lots of two prong plugs down there.. prolly went to the alternator.

Big black w/ yellow stripe is ground. Runs from intake manny to NEG battery terminal. I think its like 4 gauge? No biggie, run a new one. :D

Either power to the starter or the laternator I'm guessing.

Small black wire I believe is the ground.. just ground it anywhere on the alternator. The other, larger wire on the alternator (with the plastic piece in between the wire and the alternator body) is the power lead.
I am of course guessing cus I dont see pics.

We don't really need picts, he's got the wires figured out correctly. He just needs to hook them up.
But some battery grease on the 10mm nut wire when you install it, alot of current goes through that line and it would suck to have it short out on you later.
