Whats your ideas and concerns about this.. every freaking magazine has 240 coverage.. dammm superstreet is like dedicated now... I know some of you guys gonna say "who cares" blah blah... But in your honest opinion state it. hehe. I bet some of the magazines probably read the forums now.
I for one dont really like it, heard a radio ad for some drift even coming up with teh release of Need for speed undergroind 2 and Snoop Dog to appear in concert as well... "Come see the hottest underground racing action" or soo
when the pigs try to get at you, park it like it's hard...

yeah, it was kinda nice having a car nobody cared about, now everybody and their whore mother wants one...I like seeing hooked up 240's in magazines but I dont like the fact they are in there, does that make sense? I guess I like being in the "cool club" and having one, its funny having little riceboys gawk at my car and I think it looks like hell and back.
Publicity sure did help out the aftermarket for the 240sx, that a for sure.

I could give a rat’s ass, I got a good chassis with a powerful motor. That’s why I picked it. For me, a chassis for under 2g's was nor a 240, 510, 240z. 510=not long enough engine bay. 240z= long enough engine bay, though chassis flex and trying to find one in nice shape with no rust. 240sx= just right. The whole media thing is all about the drifting, and that’s not my interest. So unless they have something constructive to say, I pay it no mind.

Just use the most expensive and hard to get parts, so you wont have too many biters :D
240sx coverage has been all over SCC and superstreet since 2000.
superstreet issue December 2001, Jun supra on cover... features drifter - x car... if anyone is to blame its drifter x for making his car(s) so sexy. :D

to me, most people dont FIX up their cars.. they just pretend.
people think adding a body kit, turbo kit, and some wheels.. maybe some paint, make a car modified. they think installing some coilovers and a front mount.. damn, that car's heavily modified.
its all mainstream trendy bullshit, until people start actually tearing the car down and starting from scratch. the only people that do that, are the ones who really care about the finished product. everyone else just wants to have "a 240" not everyone wants a hella clean car.

I don't pay attention to the liberal media, they are trying to convince me that voting for Bush is a bad thing...
*WHOOPS, WRONG THREAD*
... No, I actually don't care about the coverage the 240SX has gotten recently and HAS BEEN GETTING FOR THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE BEEN IN THE 'FRATERNITY' OF PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE FOR THE CAR ITSELF... I also agree with Mike, the kids that will be influenced by the magazines will soon find that mommy/daddy money only goes so far, will get discouraged and quit when they are flamed to deat on a message board, or will become one of the mounting numbers of street drifter tragedies that people like myself are getting the parts for my own junkyard dog from.

Actually, I spent a bit over an hour in the junkyard friday helping to pull some shit I needed off of an S13, something I have found myself doing quite a bit of lately... It's been more pulling from wrecked cars than just plain old ones that quit. I can't care though, other peoples' misfortune has played into my hands in a positive manner as opposed to it having been the other way around this time...

dont worry, soon the supras will go down in price, so will RX7s as they age.
Than there is the whole new RSX-S, and turbo PT cruisers/neons, Lancers etc that will divert the attention into "Rally racing Everyone!!!!!!!!"
So just wait, sell your car, wait some more buy it back for 1/5th of what you sold it :P

This is just another Media phase that will pass in due time. First Everyone wanted a honda, now its drift cars, hell in a few more years it will be all about AWD. First off, It's "when them pigs tryin' to get at you, park it like it's HOT" not hard. . . Now on to this whole HyperPhase about the whole nissan realm, all I have to say is, for as long as honda has been within most of the hearts of the individuals in this forum, It was only a small thread of time before we begn to see the SR's parts catalouge in each issue of these 2nd world tuning magazine's. SO use it to your advantage as an enthusiast, and mos definately if you are just starting out, get some friends off of this forum. One Love.

heres an idea, we get somone cool for pres, that will lift all speed limit laws, then the smart drivers stay off the road for about 2 weeks to a month, then we can go drive, and all the dumb morons that wanted to go speed will have wrecked and died, and then we can have a civiliazation of good drivers, nicer cars, considering all the ricers will go think they are hot shit and wreck and a better world all together:)

***with that remark i can tell you are just mad. Had you owned a car that recieved the extra unwated attention. You wudnt be so quick to snap back saying everyone else is like "who cares" attitude. The 240sx isnt everything, and it shudnt be your total focus.
Although with the cash payout of WDC I would race. The money from one event let alone will be nice enough to help me with bills. Im taking the mods off my car, until i get a second s13 or another daily driver so i can garage my current car***

I don't mind all the attention. Whats the difference. Becuase now instead of people going what is that a probe, now they say do you have a SR in there. What ever. It's not that I don't care. But it doesn't so much change how I feel about my car. And yes, I FEEL for my car. Even though it's still almost stock I love it. One day soon I will take it and redo it from the ground up, and trun it into the sexy ass beast I see it as everytime I look at it. Then I'm going to keep it. FOREVER! The only thing all thins media changes for me is the price of shit!

Speaking of media coverage, I was watching TV last night and there was a whole episode of "Rides" on drifting. They basically followed Rhys Millen around while he was building the GTO Drifter...They also talked to the VP of APEX quite a bit. They actually were giving mad props to the Japanese drifters...that was cool. They did not mention any cars by name, except the GTO and a Supra...but just because they were both associated with Rhys...no mention of "240's" specifically...
axiomatik
10-20-2004, 08:09 PM
Yeah, I was pretty impressed by the show. They didn't consider it as being "out of control" like the newscaster on the other thread. However, they they did talk to some dumbass at APC after the D1GP, who was bragging about how APC "rocked" the event. Other than that, pretty good coverage.

Now i live here no one knows what i have I've seen 1 s14 and 4 or 5 s13 only one fixed up thats it the car is unknown here i gave a guy in a xB a thumbs up the other day for his exhaust and he looked at my car and like it was nothing i think an Mx6 has more pull out here than my car so its not buggen me at the moment i get cool parts way cheaper than they used to be and well when my car is finished I'll get lojack call it a day

Not maybe, YOU SHOULD. Sell it now, while there's a market, buy a 350z, RX8, Evo, SRT4, Scion, VW R32 .. like all the other kids.
Those "stricter" laws .. so you claim.. what are they ? did you just make that up .. because it really scared me .. i almost felt like selling my 240 and starting a thread about how the media is messing up my life.
Trust me, I wont be crying about drift laws, it only applies to people who drift on the street.

IMO Most of those people buying 240s and wanted to "drift" are usualy posers. I have 4 friends who bought s13s, some modded some not. All of them bought them after driving my car. And guess what they do... they fucking hard park while they watch me drift... They all try stupid stuff around like 90 deg corners and bs like that.
This is the thing, anyone can drag race, you can fake like you are a good driver for only so long when road racing, with enought money that is, but it wont last long. Skill in driving is Skill in Driving. They could have the sweetest most pimped out 240, but they more than likley just hardpark.

I dunno, nut you know not everyone wants a 240 to drift in. Granted the majority of them do, but there are some of us who have wanted one even before this hype started, but not for drifitng... lol I've been saving forever but now I'm afraid that if I buy a 240 (Which I plan to use for highway racing lol, only on the weekends) people will think I'm an idiot who wants to drift... I'm one of those people though that would rather watch because I KNOW I wil crash lol. I'll leave that skill to others =)

I've got a new theory on this whole 240sx bandwagon scene. It goes like this, the 240sx has gained sooo much popularity in so little time that we have everyone jumping on at once trying to buy one, make parts for it, be trendy with it, etc, etc. But what everyone doesn't realize is that Nissan doesn't make them anymore. I know people know it, but knowing and owning up to it is two different things. The industry seems to think anyone can just walk to the nearest used car lot and pick up themselves a used 240 for cheap and start drifting. I went through a dealer's auction listing with a buddy who buys cars wholesale and the number of wrecked 240s showing up at the auctions is quite astounding. How about over 15 damaged cars at one auction last month. That's just one auction. We don't have to wonder why we have so many damaged 240s suddenly popping up.
The so called "scene" will dwindle very quickly. I predict a year, maybe two TOPS! Then everyone will have forgotten about the 240 and moved onto something else. While us hardcore oldskool guys who retain our cars will have the left over excess parts made in haste to loot. The 240sx btw is not the next civic. The WRX is. Give the market a year, my hypothesies will be solidified.
old_s13
10-24-2004, 11:35 AM
The WRX is. Give the market a year, my hypothesies will be solidified
No, because ALL of the RWD cars are all still expensive.. example? Z.
People will still buy WRX's, but those are expensive too.
Which remains lesser FWD cars, which people will and always have been buying.. like Scion TC, Civic, Etc.
Which means, drifting will always be taboo for MOST people, except for the people here and there that pickup old RWD clunkers like ours.
Enjoy.

The so called "scene" will dwindle very quickly. I predict a year, maybe two TOPS! Then everyone will have forgotten about the 240 and moved onto something else.
Here is an example of why your theory is wrong.
As we all know, almost every single "import" magazine that all the 14, 15, and 16 year old kids can buy on magazine racks has been hyping the fuck out of drifting for the past 5 years. What you probably do not know is that every single one of those magazines is owned by Primedia (see products directory here: http://www.primedia.com/). Primedia has no direct competitors, so it makes absurd amount of money. Being the greedy bastards they are, they need a new way to cash in on stupid kids, so they focus on drifting. So now Primedia has every kid concerned about image and half the users on this board consumed by this newest most extreme JDM tyte sport from underground mountain racing in some far off country...
OK, here comes the brilliant part: http://cars.ign.com/articles/557/557250p1.html
They get all the readers and poseurs to come out to their WWFDC and fork over absurd amounts of money to get in, spend all their money buying drifting T-Shirts and stickers from Primedia's approved vendors. All the while, exploiting the people who most likely don't even read their mags by offering (relatively) small sums of money to get local drifters out to put on a show.
Since Primedia's evil empire has but down the large amount of capital to get this moving, I doubt they will stop feeding the machine anytime soon. In fact, pick up a SCC, or Import Tuner the next time you are in the store, I guarantee there will be an article in next month's issue touting WDC as the greatest thing ever.
Thats my conspiracy theory

We'll see.
...overflooding of events will kill the scene.
Anyone go to a drag race event lately? Probably not right? because there are about a million of them. For a little example, just go to your local newstand and check out the drag race coverage (if there's any left) and look at the attendance in the background.
The same will happen to drifting.
We haven't solidified the sport in the U.S. yet, and the general public is too ignorant about it. Therefore it will lack longevity.

despite what the media says or what poeple wanna do with the car, i like the car for what it is. right now mine is stock, i just like driving it period weather it be agressive or cruising, i find it an awesome car to have. and in my neck of the woods there arent to many s14 k's running around, so i consider myself to have a rare 240.
