been searching for threads of people who have high idle but only come up with "rough idle" or "stumbling idle" so i thought i'd start one..

anyways, my car seems lik its idling high at lik 1k somtimes 1.2k, sometimes normal 600-800rpm. but its been idling at about 1k most probably 4 times outta 5 and its worrying me. last time i put more air into my deflated tire and it kinda stopped but now my tire is kinda flat again and the problem came up more. thats weird, flat tires shoulnd't mess up the idle right? just like to add in that note. lol. also, ive been getting a weird noise that sounds like heat shield rattle but ever since my car started idling high i think maybe its the timing chain? any suggestions or comments you guys have?

mmm try adjusting your idle first. is this on your sohc or dohc? (saw it in your sig). i think you may have a couple of different problems.

i found a hole on top of the radiator overflow plastic tank. its on the top, but cooland rarely fills the overflow tank. maybe its something to do with cooling or the overflow tank? weird though, my cars temperature sensors is always between C and H. never overheating or close to overheating..

its on the dohc car. how do you adjust idle? i tried messing with the throttle cables today. the cruise control throttle cable fell lose from the bracket so i put it back. problem still persist. its idling at 1.2k. and drops to 1k after a while.

im pretty sure teh sounds are just part of the heat shield.

should be large flat head type screw on the middle of the intake manifold..

right in the middle of the 4 runners.

found this while searching for my problem.

my idle will sometimes surge (enough for me to get the car moving without touching the throttle). its gone as high as 2k. if i tap the throttle it comes back down. i think this might be the issue.

Thanks for that link Azn, that looks like the fix (I have the same problem). My ECU is also spitting out a bad engine temperature sensor code and after i cleaned the sensor with contact cleaner, the idle stopped fluctuating mostly, but it's still high and has a few other related problems. I'll try that fix out and come back with it.
