My car had a Hanabi 8000k HID kit on it when I bought it. Today one of the bulbs finally decided to shit the bed. I didn't like how blue they were to begin with so I didn't really care and just thought I'd replace them with white. Well Hanabi no longer exists, (at least in the US) and I have no idea really what to do about replacement bulbs.
After some researching I believe that the ballasts used by Hanabi are Philips/Hella ballasts, but Hella only offers 5500k, 6500k or 7500k bulbs. If it truns out these bulbs are compatible does this mean I would be able to replace the bulbs with some 6500k ones as long as they are also 35w like the Hanabi ones are?

I got a new starter from AutoToys. It wasn't 'Hanabi' but it was the same conector and worked almost better. It seems that AutoToys doesn't carry it ether. I can't find any right now but I'll keep looking.

as long as the connectors are the same you can use any kind of bulb in any "k" temp
go with 4500 thats the best, gives off most light,
i got Catz 5500K, its blue/white W/O tinted bulbs, its the new version before the HID ban

Are you sure about this? As far as i knew certain bulbs cannot be used with certain ballasts as the startup procedure/sequence can vary. For instance I did find the Hanabi bulbs cannot be powered by a bosch ballast due to this.
EDIT: Meh, the more I think about it, I don't even think I'll bother. I'll just put regular halogens in and forget about the HID's and toss them on the parts shelf. Not really worth 200$ in new bulbs to me. Oh well, thanks for your help though.

I would just buy a new kit. I hated halogen on the projectors. Couldn't see shit even with highwatt bulbs. The high W ones would burn out every 6months due to overheating. you could burn yourself on the glass.

I can't justify spending that kind of money on lighting. As i said these were on the car when i bought it. I've been pulled over once already and I managed to convince the cop they were OEM (Maine, ha) and he didn't check, but they are starting to crack down on them a lot more now. I was considering getting replacement bulbs but I'll keep that 200$ and take this as a sign to finally take them out.
Hell I could replace the halogens every 6 months for the next 5 years and not spend as much as a new HID kit.
Again, thanks for your help anyway.

Hmm what type bulb? If it's the philips bulb, D2R, I got a set of two in hand for you. 4300k, I would let them go for $50. Never used, I accidently cracked the cermic part of the bulb when installing so I thought they were broken and went ahead and ordered some new 5000k ones. Later found out it's the ballast. I have tried them on, they do work. I can send you some pics if you want. Just give me a Pm.

The D2R doesn't doesn't appear to work with my ballasts.

I tested the bulbs and ballasts last night, turns out the bulb is fine and the ballast is fried. The case the ignitor is in looks slightly warped and melted like there was a short circuit in there.

get rid of them. If the ballast is shot, it's going to be spendy to get a replacement one, especially if they are impossible to find stateside.
HID bulbs in halogen housings are crap anyways. Just get some good Hella halogen bulbs.

I agree totally. I already got a set of Osram silverstars (not the Sylvania ones). I was hoping it was just a bulb so I could replace it and sell the HID kit, but oh well. I'm not even going to waste my time searching for a replacement ballast, to the junk parts shelf it goes.
There are two types of HID bulbs. D2R or D2S
HID kits that don't use those two type of bulbs are junk.
HID bulbs should be in the 4100k to 4800K (white). Anything else is just blue and purple.
After googling up Hanabi, it seems like they use H7 style HID bulbs for their kits.
89 bucks a bulb!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7927728642&category=36476
OEM replacement HID bulbs are only 50-100 bucks a pair.
Just get rid of your hid kit. The best way to get hid working perfect is to retrofit projectors to your housing.
