So basically, my friend and I installed BC 264/264 cams in his s13 with a ka24de. We did everything as per the JWT guide and FSM specs. These cams are supposed to be "drop in", and for noobs like us, we had no idea we were supposed to adjust for valve lash until it was too late.
The cams were loud, extremely chattery, and after trying to check timing and everything else, I decided to check up on the shims and their clearances (which I would have done in the first place had I known... Trust me I read through as many threads as I could on these cams)
Low and behold only a single shim matches the .008 valve lash BC suggests :facepalm::facepalm:
Well after using feeler gauges and doing the whole schabang to figure the new shim size, we decided to drop back in the old cams so my friend isn't out of a car for a week.
Install was smooth as butter until it turned over. Loud. Chattering. Again. It sounds almost like a Cummins its so dang rackety. These were the stock cams in the same location and damn well on right timing.
Can anybody help me out? I dont want to admit its rod knock because I've heard rod knock. Maybe bent valves from extended throw? Either way this is my friends new ride and its so damn clean I'd hate for my cams to be the reason he can't drive it :-/
