I thought I would share a few pics and vids of my latest rallycross. This is my third time rallycrossing, and as always, I had a blast. This time was a little different, I had just installed a VLSD, and was still getting used to how the car would slide so there is quite a bit more under/oversteer than usual. This was also my first time at this location, and for some reason, I couldn't quite get used to this courses flow.

Enough worthless talking, on to pics:

^this was my car on my first run... looking fairly clean, having some fun in the dirt

http://www.missouri.edu/~msm347/2004-10-04043.jpg
^this is my co-driver's second run, car starting to get a bit dirty :)

http://www.missouri.edu/~msm347/f6c2b47a.jpg
^here it is by the end, dirt EVERYWHERE, I had to vacuum 1.5" of dust out of my spare tire well due to a run with 3 spins... but it was soooooo worth it.

Now here are some vids of my car taken by some very good photographers/videographers that compete in local rallyXs/autoXs

^this is a compilation of my runs: 1st run, a bit too much understeer. 2nd run waaaaaayy too much oversteer. I spun 3 times that run, and right when the camera cuts away, I was lost in a dust cloud for what seemed like an eternity. 3rd run, I was getting the hang of the VLSD's grip, cleaner line and faster time. Last couple runs the car didn’t feel right up front and was making one helluva racket. I checked it out in grid and found both front shocks had exploded :bite: spraying shock "juice" all over the inner fender lining and suspension. whoops :D

^these are my codriver's runs. He tends to drive a smoother line than I do and usually gets faster times, but he was having troubles towards the end with the suspension(it felt like we were waterskiing out there). The last run I retired my car after discovering that my shocks had a violent disagreement with rallycross, and he entered his AE86..... he beat all of the 240's times with his AE86 on Azenis :squint:

All in all I had a great time, although I have discovered that I need a dedicated rallycross car :2f2f:

To all of those interested in Rallycross: DO IT! My shocks didn't blow solely from this rallycross, they have been on thier way out for a year and a half now, the rallyX was just the finishing blow, and other than that, I haven't had any problems. Also, this event had really bad dust problems, in all of the other events I have attended, the dust has been well under control.

heh, if that was referred to me, then im not taking the 240.

I actually have a dedicated rallycross car, which will move up to be a dedicated road race car, when i finally find a dedicated clubrally car :)

just thought id clear it up...

When I bought my 240 a few years back, I realized that it would never be a pretty car. I bought it for the primary purpose of being a cheap and easy way into learning driving techniques on a RWD platform, so I am never shy about beating on it, or exploring its limits in competition. Now that I have experienced AutoX/RallyX/Road Course and a drift event, its time to move into modifying it to learn about the changes in setup.

BTW all of that dirt on the outside(and some in the interior) came off in 10 minutes with a California Car Duster :)

What are you running as your rallycross car?

I am thinking about going with an ugly but cheap: 240SX, Volvo 240/740, or Audi 4000. Perhaps stepping up to some tree dodging in a few years.

91 escort gt, some mods

nice car, fairly balanced suspension, shitty aftermarket. But parts are cheap, car was cheap, and it's quite reliable. Plus i believe skills can be aquired in any car, not matter it's shittines :)

i wouldn't go with a 240sx if you plan on investing in it to clubrally. way too much oversteer :). i'd really consider buying your first car. You easily spend 10K on just bringing the car up to spec. I was originally planning on converting the escort to clubrally, so i was asking around with prices and all..

wouldnt go with a quattro either - awd + old car = $$$ imho

Where is West Lafayette? Our region(St. Louis) rallycrosses in south central Illinois. I know Chicago SCCA has events up north (At tirerack in South Bend I think) Western Ohio Region is also having rallycrosses around there. With all of that you should be able to find an event nearby.

our events are 2 hours away from where i live. considering they start at 9am am, i have to leave house at around 6am. And driving a buzzingly loud car with no radio and a really bad hangover aint really fun.... but its worth it :D
