Alright, so I figured that I should probably start one of these threads. It will be nice keeping track of progress and being able to ask general questions (and get feedback on plans). I'll go in order of events till we are caught up, but I promise not to skip anything...

So where do I begin? So I've been into S Chassis cars for a while now... I even owned a S15 Silvia. I've always liked the X Chassis cars, but never really gave ownership much thought till Marc's big body build. So I did what any rational person would do... Sell off ALL of my parts I've been collecting over the years and sell the car.

It was honestly a nice break for me (and my savings were happy, and my investor was surprised I kept her busy). Anyways, I started to get the itch to jump back in. I started to work with a local importer last year, and began the process of finding something that ticked off all of the boxes for me. I wasn't fussed on KM's but wanted a stock white (preferably) chaser with a sun roof. I was going back and forth between that and a Mark II, but I like the lines of the Chaser a bit more.

It took a few months, and there were a few cars that I lost out on. I was even thinking about going back to the Nissan world (another S15 or C35 Laurel) when this popped up on the up coming auction list.

http://i.imgur.com/c7fUQaPg.jpg

Went over the auction sheet, and everything was great, except for the paint. 3.5 Grade with the interior listed as B. The clear is done, but I factored a respray in the budget. In the end, I ended up winning the auction, and I was the new owner of a Chaser!

I decided to have it stored in Japan over the winter to miss the Canadian freeze. It was cool, as it gave me time to plan things out. I was also able to pick up a few things while I was in Japan for TAS (more on my trip to Japan later).

So here it is, waiting to be imported into Canada...

At this point is was the start of winter, and my car was being stored. I was also in the final stages of plans for my Japan trip. I was going to try and hit up as many vendors I could, while doing the usual touristy things. I'd be there for 2 weeks, so hopefully I could make it all happen...

Till the next post...

Alright so lets continue...

So While the car was in storage, I had flown out to Japan!

http://i.imgur.com/khHVuSCg.jpg

It was a trip of a life time, and I can't wait to head back. I went during Tokyo Auto Salon, so I was able to purchase a ton of items without having to drive to various shops...

And TAS was WILD! All of the best project cars that you've seen pictures or video on in person. A bit of a photo dump....

http://i.imgur.com/tDVnrbag.jpg

Plus I got to meet quite a few rather interesting people...

http://i.imgur.com/W4IsbTMg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/DPwWlrxg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/iCkifVYg.jpg

Thumbs up all around...

And there's there was the D1 Demo. I was able to hang about in the pits, beyond the ropes. Maybe it was the VIP passes?

http://i.imgur.com/JWM4z7kg.jpg

I also spoke to Daigo Saito (Super nice guy, and we managed to converse with my terrible Japanese and his okay English. Shout out to his crew for translating the missing bits HAHA....

http://i.imgur.com/rCjUxY1g.jpg

I also got to visit the Nissan DNA garage... They had EVERY Nissan car you could think of in showroom condition. They also had a ton of race cars on hand...

http://i.imgur.com/vzrIKaDg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/rjHb5Nyg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/KEFspHng.jpg

Hit up Tomei to see what's up...

http://i.imgur.com/FBQOSUHg.jpg

Super nice staff, and had a lot of fun things out because of TAS...

http://i.imgur.com/RUefBigg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/oWIbrpxg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/o7DkiTeg.jpg

They even ran the dyno with the 1JZ VVTI bits attached since I had a few questions for my own build...

http://i.imgur.com/oK5xyqwg.jpg

Also seen how their cams are made...

http://i.imgur.com/scUDuG2g.jpg

Then the Up Garage down the street...

http://i.imgur.com/pxGB7lWg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/mA2SlGcg.jpg

Since this is a car form, I've kept it car related... Oh wait... Random Gundam RX78 sighting...

http://i.imgur.com/y3Q1nehg.jpg

RIP

I did manage to spend a grip in Akihabara, Harajuku, and other places... I've got TONS of pictures, but I'll keep this streamlined. Next update will be when I get home, and when the car arrives...

Good times a head...

I did the trip with them in 2010... I decided to fly in early, and use the rails to get around. Do a few days with them on tour, and then rent a car and drive to places I'd like to visit afterwards. It was the most cost effective for me.

I believe it's being replaced with the Unicorn Gundam. It's also a bit taller as well. You can still go and see that, and hit up the Gundam Cafe (like I did, total nerd alert but I don't care). RX-78 will forever be in my heart though....

Alright, So I came back with a bunch of items from my trip...

https://scontent-yyz1-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/12599267_1556932841299185_775021354_n.jpg?ig_cache _key=MTE3NTQ4NjA2MjI4OTAxNzk0Ng%3D%3D.2

Seeing shops first hand, and being able to pick up items in person is AMAZING! It was a shame that the exchange rates were terrible for Canadians. I would have bought a lot more. I can't wait to head back some time soon. Maybe Ebisu or a HKS Premium day...

So remember when I had paid to have the car stored to miss the terrible Canadian frost? Well it was a rather mild winter, so I could have transported it sooner... Oh well... Fast forward a few months, and I had a special delivery! All afternoon I was getting messages from friends who had seen my car heading across the city.

http://i.imgur.com/q25Kcxi.jpg

It was FINALLY at home... I was over the moon.

Now on to the "fun" things you get to deal with when a car is in storage for months. The battery was totally flat. I had to run back out to grab a new one in order to check things over, and get it into the garage...

Once that was sorted I was met with the "low fuel" light. I ended up riding dirty to the local 7-11 down the street to fill it up. No tags, no plates, still has the port sheets stuck to the windshield.

https://scontent-lga3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/13117979_1246394128719256_531578886_n.jpg?ig_cache _key=MTIzOTgzMDkyODcxNTk5Njg4Mw%3D%3D.2

Now it's the rather interesting (not really) process of making this street legal for these mean streets of Ontario. But first lets give it a wash...

http://i.imgur.com/2DtVeAgg.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/qRzo5Esg.jpg

I got the car registered with the ministry so that I can get temp tags... On to safety and emissions...

http://i.imgur.com/CmzNTtk.jpg

Passed both, went back to the ministry with proof of both, and the car is now legal for use!

Party time!!!

I have this thing about purchasing stuff before the car even arrives... I had purchased these because, style over everything right?

I'm pretty sure this was the first thing I had done HAHA...

http://i.imgur.com/VRPX5TQg.jpg

I also want to get the interior up to snuff as I have the dreaded S1 raised dash problem. After doing my homework, I decided to fork over the funds for a carbon cover from Team Julius. It wasn't cheap, but it was driving me CRAZY!

I had placed an ordered a bunch of stuff from Streeter. The rad is tired, and apparently you have to purchase an intake so.... I decided to order a Greddy radiator, intake and hard pipe. I was told it would be a few weeks lead, but that's cool with me.

I also won a auction on YAJ for a fixed seat Bride bracket... I got Streeter to scoop that up for me as well.

Fast forward 2 months (Back ordered from Greddy) and...

http://i.imgur.com/Ntzyyyp.jpg

...stuff has been showing up to my house...

I'm holding out on installing it till I decided on a few things. I need to stop heading down the proverbial rabbit hole called YAJ... It makes flip flopping so much easier.

Aright, so I started cracking... I decided to install my new Vertex 10 Star steering wheel, and Works Bell QR as the stock steering wheel feels like you're driving a school bus.

http://i.imgur.com/w2t7oDy.jpg

At the same time I figured it was proper to install the Bride seat as well...

http://i.imgur.com/em5ZfAd.jpg

Oh, and also chucked on the Vertex gold shift knob that I had picked up in Japan (From the Vertex booth at TAS)...

http://i.imgur.com/hJN989d.jpg

On to the bad news. My rear coilovers are blown. I had a friend pull them, and we checked the rebound... They are toast http://www.jzx100.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.png I'm bouncing around while hitting larger bumps in the roads, so I need to get that sorted. I've got a few coilovers in mind, but I'm hoping to find a nice set used on YAJ or Up garage...

Unfortunately PBM does not make a set of coilovers for this chassis. I'm not a big fan of BC to tell you the truth. I've been in a few friends cars with BC's installed, and I wasn't wild about the way the rides felt.

I'm still thinking about Stance or Function Auto, but I'm interested in the front cup setup. The exchange rates are terrible, so I'm not hyped at the $3K US that I'm staring at. I figure if I can get my hands on something cheaper in Japan, I'll bite. I've got a few ideas after speaking to a few vendors, and shops while in Japan. DMAX, GP Sports, Largus/Blitz, Tein is what's on the short list...

Can it really be that cheaper from Japan? I have Stance coils on my G35 that I daily drive, and so far I cant complain. The dampening adjustment is pretty noticeable too, but dont take any advice from me.

Definitely would not take suspension advice from someone who uses dampening in place of damping.

Honestly you'd be surprised. I'm talking half of the price of a new set. I won't feel bad spending that amount since the blown rears was an unexpected surprise, and I want to get it sorted sooner then later.

It just sucks that it will cut into money that I was planning to spend elsewhere. Oh well, car builds and all of that...

I've been looking into making the engine setup a bit cleaner, and simple so I'm looking into deleting the J-Pipe. I'm running into mixed information of needing a tune versus not. Some say that once they deleted it, their cars stall or die at idle. Others state that they have had no issues. The problem is people are using mixed kits or piecing them together so I can't narrow issues down to a specific setup.

Currently speaking to a bunch of Aussies and people from Europe about it. For now I will run the intake pod and continue to do research. Right now I think I'll grab the complete setup from HPI. I like what I had seen in Japan, and I love that it includes all of the hoses, clamps, and caps.

Damn moving my pictures to Imgur and updated this thread took longer then I had expected. Thankfully the thread isn't huge as I have just started it.

Anyways, on to expensive carbon bits... So S1 JZX100's have an issue with the dash splitting near the top vents (Peep the older picture below)

http://i.imgur.com/T5jKGxgg.jpg

It's was visible from both outside, and inside the cabin and was driving me crazy. Uras has a place visor that you can purchase, but it's just a cover up on the windshield.

Team Julius has an actual carbon cover that you can place on top and price be damned (ugh it was rather silly) I was going to purchase it. Fast forward a few weeks, and it arrived in the mail.

The instructions stated that you should take the dash out for the best results. I wasn't THAT fussed to do so. I cut out the raised section with a fresh razor, and installed it with heavy duty (apparently) double sided velcro tape...

Sourcing control arms has been fun so far... the exchange rates? Not so much... Even with being hooked up by DMAX it's rather pricey. I'm speaking to a few UK/Aussie owners who have purchased other arms, and to follow up on what they think of them versus whats out.

Thanks for the heads up. I've joined a bunch of JZX groups (both sales and discussions), and I've actually bought a few small items from Aussie land. Sourcing parts hasn't been quite the headache (yet) for me thankfully.

As for the arms, Ikeya would be best, but it's a small fortune. When I was in Japan, I could have bought it from their vendor, but it was wayyyy too pricey for me. Kazama Auto were good to me while I was there, but they didn't have stock on hand. I'm currently in contact with a different company that has come recommend to me. Interested to see if it all pans out.

Special delivery from my man Streeter!

http://media3.giphy.com/media/CvQyHcG8jUCLm/giphy.gif

Nice small package... Seriously, I need to stay clear of Up Garage.

http://i.imgur.com/nKp7cg8g.jpg

So there was a Apexi Power FC with boost controller kit sitting on Up Garage for a few weeks. No one jumped on it because it didn't list if it was a D or L Jetro. From the pictures it looked like it was in fact a D-Jetro setup so I took the chance and bought it...

https://instagram.fykz1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/t51.2885-15/e35/13774390_206870373049083_383437483_n.jpg

It was in fact a D-Jetro and came with most of the components needed. I just have to order the N3A1-18-845 (Mazda Intake Air Temp Sensor) and 415-XA03 (Temperature Harness). I ended up saving quite a bit, so I have some added money for a few other things...

I also managed to snag a complete Blitz intercooler setup on the cheap on YAJ as well. The auction was ending in a day and no one had bid on it. I won, and after fees and shipping, I still managed to save $400.

https://instagram.fykz1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/t51.2885-15/e35/13277525_243889285983578_404441709_n.jpg

Yeah, actually I do... So the intercooler arrived in one piece, and thanks again Streeter!

Cruising around YAJ and Up Garage (as per usual) I managed to snag a set of Largus coilovers on the cheap. They were listed as unknown but I had confirmed it with added pictures that I had requested.

Alright so more crap has shown up, and I can finally get this thing somewhat sorted suspension wise. So my rear coilovers were blown... I ended up buying a set from Up Garage through Streeter. I though I'd save some money by going SAL... Never again... Damn they took exactly 9 weeks. Usually it's shorter for me, but of course those items I wasn't in dire need of.

https://i.imgur.com/KlwJeHo.jpg

I also decided to upgrade the suspension arms and front upper control arms from KFD. I was going to order a set from DMAX but the exchange rates were terrible. I was in contact with some Russians (platform is super popular over there) and this was recommended to me...

I can't complain with the quality at all...

Cheers my man! Honestly I was getting kinda wild with it, and when the numbers came back from the engine builder... We were looking at GTR numbers, without the GTR. I've owned a few S chassis over the years, and I decided it was time to switch it up.

Hopefully it will be cool... My fingers are crossed!

I'm down, what are the deets on that?

Here's a video from the last event...

The right people are behind the scenes, and it's exactly what we needed locally. There were drivers from NY who made the trip up, and they enjoyed themselves. Hopefully more drivers will end up checking it out from out of province...

So I've had a lot of "idle" time while I wait for more things to arrive, and was going back and forth with running a kit. Part of me wanted to run OEM, and a vented hood. Another part of me wanted to kit the car... And man, some local shops were making it hard for me to even THINK about purchasing a kit. Lots of "yeah we can get that" and no replies after that. Some places didn't even reply in the first place.

Then I could have a vendor in the US get me something, but again... The exchange rates right now are in the crapper with the Canadian dollar, and I'd still have to cross the boarder to pick it up.

I was going to just sucking it up and getting Streeter to ship me something cool. I had a few kits on the short list... BN (duh), Traum, Origin Lab, and Car Modify Wonder. I actually liked what I had seen from Car Modify Wonder on my trip to Japan last year. I'm just too damn in decisive a lot of the time so I never pulled the trigger.

After being let down with a local distributor, my good friend got me in touch with the person who distributes Origin Labo for all of Canada. After a few phone calls, I decided to order up the "Stylish line" kit. And the best part? It was in stock, and I had it in hand the following week! You can't beat that!

So then, I was off to pick up the kit from the local (stupid large and busy) shipping terminal. After running around like a headless chicken getting paper work, passes, and directions, I'm on my way back home!

I had to play a bit of tetris tying to get the pieces to fit in the Lexus SUV. What you don't see in the above picture is the reclined seat, with the aero sticking out the rolled window. It made for a interesting ride home at stop lights.

https://i.imgur.com/gN3IDVO.jpg

Man it was a tight fit... Anyways, made it home in once piece, and I'm happy with the purchase.

Alright so lets continue shall we?

So I managed to purchase a few larger items, but didn't think of the smaller bits that accompany them. I needed hoses in order to install the new Greddy rad, and scooped up a cheap set on eBay (I'm the worst I know).

I also decided to replace the Japanese double din that was installed in it. I don't listen to the radio, but it would be nice to have BT and USB. I was watching pricing on a few Pioneer and Alpine models, when a older 7" JVC unit came up for dirt cheap. Reason was that it was older and the screen had a small scratch on it. I'll take it for less then $100, and I can always replace it with some NAVI unit once I check other things off of the list.

Fast forward a bit and...

https://i.imgur.com/HKgxGsmg.jpg

I know I know... Boxes... It's a theme.

Dug these out from my trip... It was awesome being able to grab these in person.

https://i.imgur.com/ZBXB3gFg.jpg

Also purchased a new intake and hard pipe... I was advised that Greddy recommends that you replace these bits for "proper" fitment. I didn't think much of it, and figured I might as well...

https://i.imgur.com/Plcw7cag.jpg

I'm all about engine bay tunes HAHA...

So after a bit of fusing about...

https://i.imgur.com/JZqjN1tg.jpg

The engine bay will be cleaned up once I install a few more bits. I do welcome the cooler engine temps, as these run rather warm (well warmer then I'm used to with SR's).

And please bring back the summer weather...

I had a few ideas of what type of rims I'd like to run on this thing. After my trip to Japan and seeing a ton of new options in person, it was difficult for me to really stick to something. It was either rebuild something older, or purchase something new. On the list I had Work Emotion T7R, and CR Kiwami. Gram Lights 57DR (in the wild colours before they discontinued them).

I decided that I'd rather get something that I was after when I was in school and couldn't afford to purchase at that time. I still remember being bummed when TF and other shops where emailing people about the "final" order for them.

So then... what was it?

https://i.imgur.com/3KG2Mmwg.jpg

A set of Work VS-KF's in some sort of wack high offset. There's a new group locally that are trying to build their brand, and a good friend vouched for them, so I decided to give them a shot.

https://i.imgur.com/miDoLKXg.jpg

If the math is correct, they will end up being 18X9.5+26 square setup. The faces will be refinished in the same colour with hint of more flake. I'm not trying to gold dip any bots or go crazy with the face colours. It wouldn't suit what I have visioned for this car in my mind.

Anyways, while that's out of the way, I also placed an order over at Nengun for a few items that I was missing in order to get my Power FC up and running. Fingers crossed that it will ship sooner then later with them as I haven't heard much of anything, other then the initial order email.

The rims are complete, and look great! 18X9.5+26 squared will be the setup.

Spring snow storm means I can update this thread HAHA!

So I wanted to get a new hood for my Chaser. There were a few I was thinking of... mainly, DMAX, Car Modified Wonder (after visiting their shop in Japan) and BN Sports. BN was out as my aero isn't aggressive enough to pull off those vents. DMAX has been hit or miss as of late, and I'd hate to gamble on that. After shooting off an email to Streeter, I was offered a Origin Lab carbon hood at a great price. The kicker was that I'd have to wait till the "next shipment". And that my friends is when the waiting game began.

So I prepaid, and was told it was going to be a few months out. Cool no problem, I wasn't in a rush. Then it was delayed. Then the next shipment was split with the US so Canadians were shorted. It honestly felt like I was never going to see the thing. After the last delay email I was sent, I was at a cross roads... Cancel (hopefully) and just grab something from Streeter? Stick it out? Well after speaking to a friend who was shipped the wrong carbon colour after waiting for forever, I decided to cut my losses and see if I could just get the fiberglass version.

I was actually in luck as there was one inbound and unaccounted for. Cool... Took the difference in cost, get some canards because why not, and pocketed the rest.

Fast forward a few more weeks, and this was delivered directly to the house...

I've also been looking into stock placement turbo upgrades, but that seems like a rabbit hole...

...One that I've already got one foot into HAHA... I'll get to that in another post. The moral of the story is never ask for prices.

And is it ACTUALLY spring yet?! This weather has me feeling a type of way...

So the weather has been rather hit or miss but thanks to my good friend (who owns a rather sweet Zenki), we managed to put in a bit of work.

https://i.imgur.com/X8fPKLhl.jpg

So we decided to test fit the body kit!

After taking of a million clips, pins, and screws the front bumper came off. In order to get to everything, you'll need to take off (or remove the bolts like we did) the headlights and corners.

After a bit of playing around this was the result of the front...

https://i.imgur.com/Ew64IITl.jpg

We didn't trim anything so the front stock intercooler was hitting the backside of the front bar.

The side skirts were a breeze...

https://i.imgur.com/s0l8b76l.jpg

Everything was a great fit, and it will only get better once the dremel comes out. Unfortunately we lost daylight, and we couldn't fit the rear.

Next on the list was the intercooler... Removing the stock one was a pain in the ass for real. Toyota loves to overengineer things and it's great... until you have to remove something. After removing countless splashguards, clips, pins, piping, (oh and the front bash bar) the stock intercooler came out.

https://i.imgur.com/CwQblW3l.jpg https://imgur.com/CwQblW3

The longest part of the install was taking out the stock bits HAHA! Anyways, the install went smoothly because of my boy who again, kicked my ass into gear and got me motivated (while lending me an added hand which was awesome to have).

https://i.imgur.com/255YuVBl.jpg

After a bit more fitting and adjustments we are on a roll...

https://i.imgur.com/LFIsgY5l.jpg

The last bit connecting the piping to the throttle side was a bit tricky with the bends and where the couplers met. Anyways, we finished up and things are looking good! (My headlights? Not so much... I need to get those refinished)

https://i.imgur.com/gab8SZdl.jpg

So what's next on the list? Fitting those suspension arms, so that I can finally get this thing rolling on the new rims. I also have to source a new turbo since the sale of one I had lined up fell through unfortunately. Since I want to drive it and not have it down for a period of time, I'll just have to hold off on it unless something unbelievable comes my way. I'm still looking and collecting parts though.

Hitting up Streeter for a catless downpipe, and I'm going to place an order for either a Tomei or HPI elbow. I also have to order a refresh timing kit to replace belts, and the water pump. The exchange rates blow at the moment, but what can be done. It's the old, money goes out... Not sure when the items will show up so "surprise" when it does.

Alright, so I've got a little time so I can play a bit of catchup with this thread.

So there's a bit of a back story with the suspension arms. My man had to drill out the rear traction arms had to be drilled out another 2mm as the stock bolts wouldn't thread through. That's not a big deal, as he was able to do me a big solid and take care of that at his workplace.

The rear lower control arm was a mess... I was sent the wrong sized arms initially, and we figured it out well into taking EVERYTHING off... Good times. So after they had sent me the correct arms, it was install round two time...

https://i.imgur.com/D9R3YaNl.jpg

This time it was going smoothly till we had to get the last bolt off connecting the lower control arm to the subframe. It wouldn't budge... We were sailing along and then BAM... Smacked it for 20 minutes... Nothing... He went home to grab a small propane torch and we heated that sucker up for time... Still nothing. I was giving up hope till we heat it up for a third time and let it cook. Either this arm is coming off, or we burn this car down.

We hit it for another 5 or so minutes (felt way longer then that) and it FINALLY moved a little bit... Thank GOD! Anyways we kept hitting it till it was finally lose and came out...

Fitted the rest of the new arms, and things are finally looking up.

https://i.imgur.com/DAsakU1l.jpg

Got it back down, and eyeballed the alignment and tightened things up.

https://i.imgur.com/L3PGdvSl.jpg

Sweet, one step closer to getting this thing fitted with the new rims and to take it in for an alignment.

Also my care packages from Streeter arrived...

https://i.imgur.com/DGIR2CSl.jpg

Timing belt kit, with a new water pump for good measure...

https://i.imgur.com/9pDhfNrl.jpg

De-catted downpipe... I would have bought a one piece setup from Kazama Auto but the sale of the turbo that fell though had an elbow already. And speaking of Turbo's, I've been window shopping and seeing if there's anything bottom mount (CT15B) that's a decent deal. In all honesty it's either a cheaper billet Kinugawa piece, or suck it up butter cup and get a HKS/Tomei.

Next on the list is a turbo elbow... I'm leaning towards Tomei since I've visited their facility first hand, and like the quality of the goods they produce. The exchange rates are all out of wack, so it's currently cheaper for me to get it from a US vendor over Streeter.... Crazy. I'll be calling around to see who actually has one for me in stock.

I'm also ordering tires... Zestino tires for the front... Cheap Chinese rubber for the rears. Going off of what people have recommended for me, I'll be running 225/40/R18 square. The roads around here are terrible, and I might increase the rear size in the future, but for now, we will rock with it.

From what I've seen online, you're looking good out on the track my man!

And thanks for looking out my man!

It's just like Joseph mentioned, it's not like I have the funds to run a square setup on the track. I wish I was sponsored or got hookups on it, but I don't. I'll just continue to do this for the time being, and when I get more "drift spares" I'll run a square setup for the street.

Depends on the brand, but it's not bad. Just as long as you have something grippy up front, you're good to go. Some brands last longer then others... I just went with tires that were recommended to me by others. I trust their opinions and it's given with the seat time that they've put in over the years.

So speaking of tires...

https://i.imgur.com/8ZfPn1Ml.jpg

They had arrived, and it was time to get these things mounted on the played out rims... HAHA...

So I've been dealing with a foot injury so it makes things more challenging to get done. The weekend came around and of course the weather changes. It's nice and sunny all week while I'm stuck at work. Weekend comes around and it's grey clouds and raining... Perfect.

Loaded the rims and tires up...

https://i.imgur.com/ORfcH58l.jpg

And away we go!

https://i.imgur.com/HOQ58B1l.jpg

Got to the shop and the homie hooked it up. It wasn't a crazy stretch by any means, but it was nice to see that he took care with the rims and we were buttoned up in a short time.

https://i.imgur.com/YLFhSvIl.jpg

So now it's time to get the front camber arms installed so that I can throw these all on. Then it's time to get the fender rolled, and drop it some more... get an alignment and then it's party time.

Oh and I also ordered a Tomei elbow from Driftmotion, and it's on it's way along with a oil sandwich adapter and some other odds and sods to refresh a few things on the engine. I swear that I'll eventually get these things installed.

Also placed an order for gauges, and I decided on Defi since I've always run them in the past, and they've been accurate and never let me down. Went with the Advance CR (black faced) through Streeter. I haven't decided on where I'm going to run them, but I bought the 52mm versions as I'm not looking to attract too much attention if I run them on the dash.

The life saver and dope Zenki owner came through to give me some more help on the Chaser.

https://i.imgur.com/BUZ2yTNl.jpg

On the table for the day was to install the K F D front adjustable arms, and throw on the new wheels.

https://i.imgur.com/7X20dbXl.jpg

It was a lot easier then what was mentioned on the install thread on another site. We were finished in no time. I was happy as it went smoothly and nothing fought us during the install.

https://i.imgur.com/Gq1hG4tl.jpg

So then, now it's time to throw these VS-KF's on! It's been a long time coming. I also forgot that I bought 326 power lugs while I was in Japan HAHA! My little one reminded me of the "pink bolts"... A quick raid of the parts pile, and I had found the sets in the little grab bag they had given me on my visit.

https://i.imgur.com/crt2s7Cl.jpg

So after fiddling with the various arms, and my friends eyeballed alignment we dropped it, and I'm rather happy...

https://i.imgur.com/tZMAI7Sl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/PhHinXml.jpg

And ohhhh man do I need to get my fenders rolled. The fronts are cool, but the rear? Oh they rub...

https://i.imgur.com/bIVItTal.jpg

Now I have to sort out an alignment because the toe is all out of wack for sure, and I'd like to dial in the rear a little bit.

Also placed a rather big order for various things over at Driftmotion. A lot of OEM gaskets, and other odds and sods... Oh and they have a Tomei turbo elbow so I scooped that up as well. I should have it in a week or so.

I was planning to freshen up the rear, and order a 2 way so I thought that I might as well get this if I'm dropping the rear. I was looking at Serialnine bits but they changed their pricing policy to American funds while still shipping out of Canada. After speaking to a few Aussies, I was put on to a guy who mills them (for a third of the price) so I figured why the heck not!

I've booked an alignment and I still need to find the time to get the fenders rolled as I'm rubbing at the moment. I'm starting to get excited about this thing again as it's starting to come together, and the parts pile is starting to get smaller (I swear).

They make them in house, so I'd say they are better then the Chinese parts floating about. The welds are solid, and the bushings are of good quality. They had originally sent me the wrong rear lower control arm, and rush shipped me the proper pieces so that I could complete the install. Overall I'd give them a thumbs up.

No I'm currently running the stock setup for the RCA. I'm still researching the various things I could do and run for the front. I think I might just get a full angle kit and call it a day.

Some info.

If you had the little fender liners(There will be holes on the inner fender lip), it's a PITA to roll without getting little dents in those areas.

Are you gonna pull the rear subframe to do the bushings? If you do, I need a favor.

For their adjustable rear lower arm for the IS300 (JZX110) I'd agree and realize that. For their other arms, I don't believe that it's the case. I bought these when they first dropped and had to wait as they were still manufacturing them in house. I don't know if its the same for the S Chassis items as well.

Megan Racing currently doesn't produce rear (or front) suspension bits for my current chassis. I know that they do make engine and transmission mounts, and some other smaller bits.

I'll have to take a look again, I believe the front is like that. The rear, not so much. I'm planning to take it to a local pro so that I can get it done right the first time around.

As to the bushings, if I get the time I plan to do it myself (with help). If I'm pressed for time, I'll just take it to a local trusted shop and have them install everything.

Let me know what you need, and I can see if I can help you out.

Alright so my care package from Driftmotion has arrived. I had ordered a bunch of refresh items (Cam seals, valve gasket set, exhaust gaskets, etc) and main item, the Tomei elbow...

https://i.imgur.com/U3egcERl.jpg

I also have been spending time on Up Garage and YAJ (I really shouldn't) and found a HPI turbo manifold on the cheap. So cheap that I couldn't pass on it, so the email was sent to Streeter and it's on it's way!

Also had him order up a J-pipe delete kit from HPI so those two items should leave around the same time (fingers crossed). Since I'm sticking with a bottom mount setup, I'll be looking for a CT15B replacement as mine is getting rather tired, and up there in KM's. Checking to see what the turnaround time would be for rebuilding the stock one with larger steel internals (or billet).

And speaking of Streeter, the gauges have arrived as well...

https://i.imgur.com/kWFdD6Ml.jpg

I have no clue as to where I'm going to mount all of these so I'll be looking to see where other owners have placed them. I was toying with the idea of cutting into the dash, and installing them above the glove box... But Damon says otherwise HAHA!

I also managed to take this thing in for an alignment...

https://i.imgur.com/FcRfc8wl.jpg

Good times :ugh:

https://i.imgur.com/Chilozml.jpg

Now that it's sorted, I will get the fenders rolled, and lower it a bit more. Other then that, I've been driving this thing around, and enjoying it!

Yeah, and I'm okay with that. I'm going to drive it around and see if I'd like to dial out some of that rear camber. In all honesty, I won't know that till I test fit that kit again.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but KFD is rebranded Megan.
no its not. they make their stuff in Russia (although they may source some of their matl's from megan). their arms just look like rebranded megan stuff + painted that pink/purple color.

they use poly bushings for the 'soft' side of their arms while megan uses pillowball bushings (lexus/Toyota rear end stuff). the rear lowers like the same, but you can see the difference in the patterns/pickup points;furthermoree the FUCA uses the same sliding design to adjust the ball joint, but the way the hardware clamps the sliding balljoint is flipped between the two. there are also minor variances in the balljoint shape between the two.

I have their FUCA for my IS and its okay, nothing special. will eventually replace with S9.

Thanks for breaking it down my man! I will eventually suck it up and go with S9 or something baller from Japan. It just bugged me when I had hit them up originally, and had to pay in American though it ships out of Canada. With the exchange rates it was a real head scratcher.

I'm rather happy with the purchases and I can almost button up the hot side of this thing... Last on the list? A damn turbo! I had one lined up, but the deal fell through unfortunately. I'm on the hunt for a CT15B replacement since I'm sticking with the bottom mount setup. Billet or Steel larger internals and I'll up the boost a bit to party.

I could do Tomei or rebuild the stock one. I'm not looking to shoot to the HP stars, so I'm still researching. I'm leaning towards having the stocker rebuild.

I also need to get a new clutch, and I'm currently speaking to Driftmotion to see what they recommend. I want to keep a street feel, so I'm not looking to purchase a heavy, chatty clutch. I want it to feel like a single stage, take weekend track abuse, and hold 400 HP.

I also ordered a few engine bay tune mods. Should look nice once everything is together. I'm also on the hunt for valve covers. I want to refinish them in my little ones favourite colours so I've been keeping an eye on YAJ and various Facebook groups I'm a part of.

It's now boost season, so we are counting down the days still it's storage time...

Alright, so it's time for a update since its cold and raining outside.

Last week was the last drift event of the season from a good group of guys running a new series in our province. The series is called Drift Jam, and it's EXACTLY what I love. Cool cars, great people, and good vibes all around.

The track is actually a go kart track and is tight and technical. It really made me envious of all of the drivers. It was a two day event, and I went up with AreOhWhy (Same one whom helps me out a TON)... He decided to dress up his car for the "spooky vibes"

https://i.imgur.com/WzCDB93l.jpg

There were a few out of town peeps who you all might recognize...

https://i.imgur.com/0tDIDVvl.jpg

And people were throwing it down all day long...

https://i.imgur.com/Hp3WAoll.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/4o0VUGJl.jpg

Hanging out, being around great people really got me excited to get cracking on my own car. I really want to make it out to an event next year... I REALLY hope that I get to drive this track in my own car next season...

https://i.imgur.com/sgrzDQHl.jpg

Everyone I spoke to had a blast, and I hope that the series continues to grow. This was just the added motivation I need to get things done... Hopefully the winter is mild so that when Roy (AreOhWhy) and I get cracking, I'm not totally hating life HAHA

I'm riding this excitement wave, and trying to get remaining parts lined up. I've decided on a clutch finally. I'm keeping the HP under 400 so I don't need (nor want) something aggressive. From what I was told I can get away with single plate. I'm also going to order up the rest of the gaskets I need from Driftmotion while I'm at it.

I'm still on the hunt for a rear differential... I've got time to see if I can scoop up one cheaper on YAJ before giving up and telling Streeter to get me a two way from Tomei or Kaaz.

I've also spoken to the person who I want to have paint my kit and she said she should be ready for me in the new year.... AWESOME! Having a once over on my car I'm going to have her fix up a few things on the fenders as well. While going over my car, I realized that I need new corner lights, and I'm thinking about a roof wing...

Why haven't you been driving the car as it is?

I have been, and keep track of things that need attention and things that I'd like to change. After a few streeting sessions, I've noticed that there's things I'd like to address now, rather then being on the sidelines at the track because something broke.

I'm not getting into anything crazy like angle mods. The car needs a refresh on a few things. My turbo is tired, and wouldn't play nice if I decided to drive hard. I will admit that the hot side of things kinda snowballed, but hey... I'm okay with that :coolugh:

My rear subframe needs some love, including the rear diff bushing so I'm going to address that as well.

Once I'm happy with having a nice "base" to start with, I believe it will in turn will last with whatever I decide to throw at it.

Theres also a few zilvians on here who are selling a KAAZ

I'll take a look my man, thanks for the heads up!

I figured I was due for an update, so here's where I'm at...

I've been looking for a new turbo. I want to keep it CT15 as I'm sticking with a bottom mount setup. I'm not looking to push the envelope, or get silly with wanting a wack load of power. I'm not going down that rabbit hole.

Anyways, I've mentioned that I had a deal lined up with a local for a rebuilt turbo, but he ended up selling it, along with his car. After I got the funds back I've been looking for a deal, and or trying to figure out who can rebuild one for me.

We've been in this situation... you should be in bed sleeping, but you're cruising through YAJ. You're telling yourself, just a few more pages then you'll hit the sack. That's what I was telling myself till I stumbled onto this....

https://i.imgur.com/lxoTWVKl.jpg

Nice! I told myself... after doing a little digging and terrible translating I think I came up on something rather nice, for a third of the price.

https://i.imgur.com/WYCFAfll.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/rNmmOMol.jpg

As I understand it, the seller had sold his car after attending a few events, and reverted a lot of items back to stock. He said there's 1500 Km's on this thing (I'm not fussed if theres more really). He hit 380HP at one bar (14PSI) with a similar setup to what I'm planning to run. He had a few other items listed, but this one was the one I had to have...

So I hit up Streeter, and kept my fingers crossed that I wouldn't be out bid. Turns out, that luck was on my side and I scored this for an AMAZING deal! I'm still super happy and feel rather lucky.

Since it's a used turbo, I needed lines, hoses, and gaskets... Quick stop on eBay and...

https://i.imgur.com/rwqx1pKl.jpg

Now that the hot side is sorted, I need to further into a clutch. After doing some further research, I think I'm going to spend the added dollars, get something Japanese (OS Giken or ORC). I still want a single, and from what I've read it should be enough for my setup and plans on driving this thing.

tricky_ab
12-17-2018, 10:29 PM
Alright so I've got more updates...

A rather heavy care package arrived from Streeter...

https://i.imgur.com/k4YnkXyl.jpg

It would have arrived sooner, but there was a postal strike in Canada and it's delayed EVERYTHING! Thank God I completed my holiday shopping early.

Everything looks great, and in all honesty, it looks barely used.

https://i.imgur.com/0ts2g54l.jpg

So now the hot side of things is complete!

With the added power I'm looking to upgrade the clutch. I was looking at a few options... Something from Driftmotion (Action)... After really thinking about it I decided to spec something out from a Japanese brand. I was looking at the ORC 409D (and 559D if I could swing it price wise). I also had the OS Giken TR-2CD on the list. I was advised to look at a twin disc for more "future proofing" but I think that would be kinda overkill for the power levels I'm planning to run.

And as you'd have it, like usual... I'm on Up Garage when I should be fast asleep and...

https://i.imgur.com/pSp4V2pl.jpg

Found this Exedy Hyper single... It's new, and $600 less then what it usually is priced out for... I had to act fast, and luckily I did as there was another one that was snapped up in the wait time that was a bit less (new but no box). Streeter again is the plug, and it should arrive in 6-8 weeks...

Oh and so that this isn't just a parts that are arriving post, I installed this...

https://i.imgur.com/FkauPHQl.jpg

https://media1.giphy.com/media/urH7OHTkPAqEo/giphy.gif?cid=3640f6095c1884c0424b69503617c385

I've got some ideas for some exterior bits I'd like to pick up and have painted while having the kit painted so I'm going to check what the quality and availability is looking on them...

I won't be able to really get cracking on this thing till the new year as it's the holiday season, and I'm heading to NYC for new years. That being said, I've got help and the drive so lets see how far I can take this before I want to light it all up in flames :)

Thanks! Same here... I never ran a Exedy clutch, but I have heard great things so fingers crossed. I hope the feel doesn't change much to what's installed currently.

Same here! Turn up the boost and make a bit more jelly. I've read that the boost controller kit for the Power FC is a bit meh, but I need to speak to the tuner more about it. Worst case, I'll just have to get something else to manage boost settings.

https://i.imgur.com/2Gns74ml.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/Stv5lqgl.jpg

Also big shout out to Jesse for the quick turnaround. I was able to snap it up before anyone else could get on it.

And while I'm at it, I'm planning to pick up some added bits for the install. New flywheel bolts, clutch release bearing, and clutch release hub. I've got a line in over at Driftmotion, but I'm waiting a little bit since the exchange rate is meh, and I just got back from NYC for New Years vacation.

Since I'm making a big push to get this thing out there for the upcoming season, I've been asking people for help, advice, and any leads to get things done. It's actually been working out quite well to be honest. I have a new person who can get my kit painted thanks to my man Mike (cool S15, Check him at FBG). So that means once the weather gets a bit nicer outside, AreOhWhy (when he finds the time) can get to trimming and fitting this thing!

I also want to style up the exterior a bit so I'm pricing out a few fun bits. I'll just have to suck up the terrible exchange costs to having something cool :coolugh: Once I get those quotes back, I'm most likely going to go a head with it and have them here in time for test fitting things, and taking a look at if the image I have in my mind can happen...

I'm getting super excited people!

Alright... I've got some time so here we GO! Lets go back to early last year... So I had a pile of anxiety that was starting to spill over in the basement. I wanted to drive this thing down to Final Bout, but I didn't have the time to wrench it myself.

My good friend has a shop (TDT Racing), and I trust him since I've seen his work over time with other builds. I loaded it up in the trunk, and dropped it off at his shop. I was doing the J-pipe delete... Waterpump... New hotside setup with the HPI manifold, turbo, and downpipe. Fluids refresh, and timing... wanted to get rid of the clunking of the rear diff, so I ordered some bushings from S9. Defi Gauges, and some other odds and sods that I'm probably forgetting about.

Anyways we are here for pictures right?
https://i.imgur.com/4YfzyUTl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/lQH8tBnl.jpg

And then the process... Yeah the bay was dirty... but I'm on my way of making it look a heck of a lot better... Promise!
https://i.imgur.com/XyMSYGal.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/ZW1VfGOl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/G7zehSZl.jpg

My man took the time to refresh some bits... I didn't even ask him to, but he went above and beyond.
https://i.imgur.com/uAlKuhql.jpg

Going along with the refresh, I decided to get the camcovers powercoated. My little one picked the colour :)
https://i.imgur.com/WxRegOKl.jpg

Moved on to the rear... The original rear diff bits I had ordered were for a different car... Awesome:facepalm: So I hit up S9 for their bushings, and I'm glad I did!
https://i.imgur.com/1cTC4tZl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/8w7103hl.jpg
...and installed...
https://i.imgur.com/vwAdZlPl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/o4gsuhAl.jpg

And I have a question for some of you... have you really imported a car if there's not a birds nest of wires, hiding under your dash?!?
https://i.imgur.com/KtmhPEul.jpg
I'm just happy that its sorted...

My Defi gauges are in! I decided on 52MM as I didn't want them to be super visible from outside of the car. It's close enough that I can rear them accurately.
https://i.imgur.com/KrC0AcXl.jpg

Fast forward a some time, and she was ready for the voyage to Final Bout!

So I had enjoyed driving this thing for the rest of the summer and into fall...

Ended up daily driving it to be honest. The little one loved it for sure... It made the drive to school a bit more fun for the both of us! Threw my STI in the garage till about mid October.

Next on my list was to FINALLY get the kit sorted (more on this in a later post). Looking to style up a little, I had placed an order for new tails and corners from Streeter.

I went with clear tails, and smoked corners...

I also started looking into some added engine upgrades since I was planning to get a pro tune with the Power FC install. I need to figure out fuel (pump and injectors), and I'm looking into camshafts. Nothing crazy, at most 264/264. I also need to purchase a wideband, and a few other small bits. I'm not looking to get too crazy into the engine, as that can be a dangerously expensive rabbit hole.

Soooo I guess it's update time. I wanted to upload more images but imgur isn't playing nice with me. That's unfortunate, and I guess it's time to find another host.

Anyways we had a rather mild fall leading into a late snow fall so I was really just out and about.

I also placed an order for some more fiberglass because... why not? I liked how the DMAX stuff looked while I was at their booth at TAS a while back so I placed my order through Streeter!

You know it's going to be a good time when there's red marker lettering on the box...

I feel like they need to get some more toner for the printer...

And the goods...

The quality was pretty good. It's thin in some spots, but the fitment is spot on and there wasn't any pitting or deep grooves. DMAX has been hit or miss for a bit, but I'm happy with what I received.
