Alright guys so here's the deal. I'm building an sr engine and I found a spare block for sale. Now here's my question is there differences strictly on the bare block of notchtops that is different than the red tops/blacktops? Yes I have researched and I can't seem to find an answer. And if I do everyone says check the numbers on the head. I just want to make sure I'm buying a notchtop sr bare block and not something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advanc

S14 blocks have a oil port on the front left side

Thank you this is the kind of answer I've been looking for. Alright so second question what are the differences between the na and turbo versions of the notchtop?

SR20DE blocks dont have oil squirters for the pistons

Also ports for turbo oil and oil return lines.

Easiest way to tell and S14/15 block from an S13 is the oil block flange, the S13 is flat machined and the S14/15's are cast differently to save weight.

Also something to clarify the NA vs Turbo blocks, the NA's sometimes don't have oil squirters, I believe VE's do. The cranks are different (DET's are stronger w/ more counter weights). All NA blocks don't have provisions for the turbo such as water and oil feeds/returns however, DE blocks can be machined into DET blocks.

Actually the DE and DET share the same crankshaft.

And just noticed the other night the VE shares the same crank as well.

SR20 crankshafts are not all the same, all DET motors will have 8 CW (counter weight) crankshafts, the majority of DE motors will have 8 CW, some FWD will have 4 CW, P11 VE motors have 4 CW, P12 and Xtrail (T30) motors will have 8 CW crankshafts.

Really the best way to tell the difference is by looking for the oil feed for VTC and oil squirters. If a motor has both, you have an S14/S15 SR20 block. FWD or S13 blocks won't have the VTC oil feed and a DE block won't have oil squirters.

never said they were all the same just the ones from the RWD SR like I listed from FAST

Weird cuz according to NISSAN FAST (Program that dealerships use to order parts and cross references parts) says that the S13/14/15 uses the same crankshaft between the DE and DET.

I work for a Nissan Dealership, FAST is something I use on a daily basis :naughty:

With that said, you are right, all RWD SR20's have the same crank, DET or DE.

all DET motors will have 8 CW (counter weight) crankshafts, the majority of DE motors will have 8 CW, some FWD will have 4 CW

Re-read what I posted, I said that all DET and most DE motors use an 8CW crank, some FWD DE motors use a 4CW crank. There are FWD DE motors that have 8CW cranks, kind of left my statement open ended to cover that in my first post.

I was covering all bases, better to have extra info than not enough
