alright - i am trying to disconnect the driveshaft from the transmition so i can pull the engine but i cant get to all the bolts on the driveshaft because it wont turn... am i doing somthing wrong or am i just retarded?

also it says in the manual to mark it for re-assembly what do they mean by that? good thing i didnt start unbolting stuff
this is on the KA motor i am talking about btw.

make sure the rear end of the car is off the ground, dont forget to put blocks or whatever in front of the front tires. make sure your ebrake is not engaged. other that that i dont see why you couldnt access those bolts.

Make sure to put it back on in the same configuration that you pull it off because it is balanced for one of the four possible configurations that it can be bolted up back there.

Just take a piece of chalk and mark the driveshaft and the diff.

are you removing the ka engine and transmission?
if so, you don't need to unbolt the driveshaft. it's splined into the transmission, simply lift the engine out and have someone carefully support the driveshaft as it separates from the tranny output shaft

Element is sooooooooooo right just use some wire and wire the SHAFT so it won't slam HARD into the ground and everything will SLIDE out easy.

A good idea would be to drain as much of the oil out of the tranny as possible before you lift the engine out. Don't wanna be making a mess and getting dragged through it as you are holding down the end of the tranny to clear the firewall.

haha yeah definatly didnt drain the oil out, and when i pulled hte driveshaft out of the tranny it spewed all over the place, but i got it cleaned up and the ka tranny is now on the ground in front of the car :werd:

so next is to rent the hoist and yank the ka :naughty:

you could've just pulled the engine and tranny out at the same time

so lets say i had an auto and I bought a manual dshaft, how am i gonna know which way it goes back, just take my 25 percent chance?

you could've just pulled the engine and tranny out at the same time

When did he say he didn't? Might wanna go back and read again.

when he typed this:

I decided to take off the ka tranny because I've never actually seen a transmition before...so i thought i might as well and take the KA tranny apart so that when i do the same to the SR tranny to replace the clutch and flywheel it wont be the first time i crack open a transmition...

this is really all about learning for me, and i dont want the learning to be on the 2300$ engine i just bought, especially when the shifter is stuck in gear...
so I am really just being cautious when it boils down to it...

if you got a driveshaft, its prolly not gonna be perfectly balanced for you car. but in my experience it doesn't make that much of a difference. If it vibrates you can use two hose clamps around the shaft and try moving them around and tightening them until the vibration stops. Or you could try rotating the driveshaft to one of each of the 4 ways it could be mounted.
