well now that my car is 98% ready for tuning, i'm wondering about the best way to do it. i have 3 options

1) take it to a tuner with dyno and wideband 02 sensor
2) buy a wideband 02 sensor for the price of one tuning session on the dyno
3) guess

i like #2 because i can tune a million times for one price. however, #1 is good because the shop is trusted and the guy knows what the hell he's doing (unlike me). #3 is cheap but i'd probably break something.

so what do i do?

on an N/A engine you can tune for about a 14:1 A/F ratio and get away with it. i would get your own wideband. and tune it yourself. everything you will learn in the process will be invaluable.

I concur. Even better, have a friend go halves with you, then it's half the price!

Tuning aint no joke, if you dont do it right it can cost you your motor. So if you know enough and are prepared to risk it, go ahead.

I say #1 first, so you know the engine is running well. :wiggle: Then #2 for future tuning needs. :coold:

#1 for the base line then #2 for triming. Blowing up your car is definitely a great skill to have.

#2 by far. learning to tune your own car is definitely a great skill to have. you've spent so much time putting the engine together, i think you'll enjoy spending the time tuning it.

having recently donte tis I recomend a combo of # 1 and 2. especially if you've never tuned a car before.

all this is good advice. of course if i could afford it i'd go with both #1 and #2...

maybe i'll do #1 for now and split a wideband with friends down the road. i hadn't thought of that. i'll have to see who wants to go in on it with me.

thanks guys
