View Full Version : My blown motor, part III
Well, thanks to my girlfriend's help, we took time today to take off the head off the blown SR20DET...
First of all, my 3rd cylinder had 0 compression because of a broke exhaust valve. The rest of the valves seemed ok.
All pistons have serious detonation marks... They are not re-usable.
Hovewer, the block has no marks, no scratched... we still see the cross hatch everywhere... The block might off survive this pretty well. :D

awesome! good to hear something is salvageable.
Actually, most of the engine is salvageable..
replace pistons, rebuild head, and the engine is running again..

Exact same thing happened to me. #3 cylinder had no compression because of damaged valves. My pistons were okay, a bit black but usable. The head went to the machine shop, was rebuilt and it is good now.
No more NA motor? :)

Pistons damage on pics is #2 cylinder, by far the worst of all 4...
Valve is exhaust side on #3 cylinder

Well now is a good time to get you some wiseco forged P's for $449 at prostreetonline.com and they have rods to really cheap. new valves, and valve springs, lash killer kit, 264 I/E cams, camgears, rocker arm stoppers, balanced crank, 3037 turbo, with a nice 38mm waste gate, 850cc injectors, oh and hey your girlfrend should help with that too hahahahaha :p j/k

And build a drag friendly, auto-x unfriendly car... no thank you. ;)
Anyways, her money should be spent on her car...

besides only CP makes a stock bore 9:0.1 piston for the SRs :) and I've already got 850cc injectors.

Anyways, her money should be spent on her car... Damn man you are too nice for me hahah yeah I get your point though. But just because you build your bottom stronger doesn't mean it is totally for drag. I did the same thing to my old 180 and beat the crap out of it up at Nago circuit at a few drift events. yeah I know auto X and drifting are two different things but to have a well built engine means longevity Oh and go to a little milder cam but I think the perfect set up for you would be a T517Z with 256 cams I mean good power band and long lasting. I have built many SR's and that would be perfect for you to auto X in. but it is just my opinion good luck on the Re-build
Yeah, I thought about mild cams, such as 256 or 264s... with 9.0:1 forged pistons and a s14/s15 t28 running 10-14 psi of boost.
I got an engine now, in VERY good shape. hopefully, my car will run after my birthday in 2 weeks

Good to hear that all is going well HaLo and good luck on the re-build.
I agree with silviaichigo on this one. I would say build the bottom end and get the SR stronger then ever. No sense in doing this again in six months.
Yeah, we'll the rebuild plans are for the next few years, like originally planned.
Now that I found a good engine.
