I'm getting ready to swap my zenki to kouki, I'm looking for a oem hood and I see z1 motorsports has them for like $350. Is z1 a legit site?

Yes they build z cars here in Georgia. They have been around for a long while. Look up the znationals. Z1 puts this car show on every year.

I've visited their shop in Carrolton GA before, very clean facility, super friendly and helpful staff

I've also ordered stuff from them a number of times. Always quick shipping, well packaged, excellent black Friday deals. Their z33 diff cover I got for my y34 is super nice, and was crazy cheap (like $140 compared to the greddy which is like $450 for a almost identical product, but the z1 version actually has better features)

I would not hesitate to buy from them.

They've always done right by me. Ordered online from them and I've visited the shop a few times. Usually one of my go-to's when I'm ordering parts for my 240's or my Z.

Yes, I've ordered parts for my G35 from them. They manufacture and sell a lot of Z parts. Mainly popular with the Z33 & Z34 platform, but have a few s-chassis items.

Z1 is awesome. When I order stuff from them it gets here quicker than stuff from Enjuku does even though I live in the same state as Enjuku, and the shipping from z1 is like half the price. And when something goes wrong or if you get the wrong part, Z1 will take care of it. Still waiting on a replacement tstat from Enjuku over a year later now.

Well rip to the kouki swap happening soon, now I need to figure out where I'm leaking coolant from.. I just replaced intake manifold and all those heater hoses under it, new water pump, new thermostat, and I'm leaking... I don't think it's the head gasket because it runs fine with no smoke and clean oil.. 240 problems I guess lmao
You probably forgot to tighten a clamp or something.

On the subject of Z1, I got one of their 1 piece steel driveshafts last summer, awesome quality, shipped it right away, and they even tossed in a free poster of my choice with the order. Wish they had more in the way of s13 parts!

Shoutout to z1, smashed my driveshaft last week, called them up and they shipped me out one of their steel driveshafts same day and got it here in 2. Awesome shop to work with, highly recommend them and their product quality.

I have their clutch in my 350Z and it's slipping under stock power after like 150 miles on it, let's see how they handle the possible warranty exchange process. The car has not been driven hard and everything was cleaned prior to install.

150 miles isn't even broken in yet. either something was done improperly on install/break in, or somehow the friction material is defective. are you sure the clutch pedal is properly adjusted? if its not releasing entirely/partially holding pressure against the clutch cover, it'll burn up a clutch pretty quickly

def take a shitload of photos when you pull the clutch back out.

did you resurface the flywheel when installing the new clutch?

My guess; sprayed the pressure plate down with cleaning fluid prior to install

you mean you're NOT supposed to put clutch fluid on the clutch??? :ddog::ughd::goyou::bash:

Do you clean it at all? I might wipe it down like a brake disc with some brake cleaner or something....

brndck

i'd use acetone if anything, evaporates cleanly

RalliartRsX

Acetone or brake cleaner and a quick whip. You do not want the cleaning agent to get absorbed by either the flywheel, pressure plate or disk

I took the car apart last night, the clutch disc they sent me is smaller than the friction surface on my flywheel by about 1/2" and the presssure plate is the same size as the flywheel so the disc is only contacting about half of it's contact face.

Yes I cleaned the flywheel and pressure plate with brake clean before installation, just as I have done on all my other clutch jobs in the past 10 years, no chemicals used on the clutch disc. No there was not extra grease everywhere, no theres no rear main seal oil leak. Yes the clutch pedal is adjusted properly, no there no issue with the slave cylinder. Yes it's still in the break in period, but it should hold stock power under normal acceleration.

i think the angle of that image is deceptive. directly from above would be better. in the other photos you can see the inside of the puc is overhanging a bit, which is odd.

The disc is hanging over the edge of the flywheel, and the disc is hanging over the edge of the pressure plate. That is not normal from anything I have ever seen

so the clutch disc is like 3-4mm too LARGE? odd.

Fukn clutch disc is way too big for that pressure plate flywheel.

Did the components come individually, or did it come boxed together?

Fukn clutch disc is way too big for that pressure plate flywheel.

Did the components come individually, or did it come boxed together?

It came as a kit from Z1, flywheel clutch and pressure plate.

yesterday they told me this is how their kit is supposed to be.... WTF

"So that's not why its slipping"

After some more investigation my pressure plate is crowned towards the engine, the outer perimeter is proud of the inner edge, it's cone shaped slightly, pointing at the transmission, so it's only touching the outer edge of my clutch disc. Also I read their return policy and it pretty much says eat shit fuck off and die loser, or we keep 20% on "approved returns" and I'm pretty sure it even says they keep 20% when it was their mistake sending you the wrong items!!!!!

Sounds like your fuked but id get a straight edge, lay it across the pressure plate surface, take pics, use a feeler guage set to show the diffrences..document it all. Send it to them as a warranty/defect claim. Thats the best you can do.

Yes I did this yesterday, I would send photos and then call them and make them tell me something instead of waiting until the next day for an e-mail. They seem to be cooperative and almost helpful so far but I bet they are not going to give me a refund. I do not want another clutch from them. I want my money back. I will happily pay $530 for a new Competition Clutch at this point, which is what I have used on my last 3 cars and bashed the clutch pedal 50 times per lap with no issues ever.

I will post pictures of that pressure plate distortion here

drifter92
09-24-2019, 05:25 AM
This isn't technically a "straight edge" but its all I had yesterday, and if you flip this piece of steel over, it shows the same result, and it's not visibly bowed. I will take these photos again today with a combo square with a real straight edge on it.

Yea I have sent them everything, along with a very detailed story of my installation procedure, and the fact that my 350Z has a throttle body issue halting me at like 10% throttle. The one day when it made full power the clutch slipped in 5th gear going up a hill at 55mph. I immediately let off and limped the car home. The clutch didn't slip under power in 2nd gear though which was weird. It was a very bad day. I had owned the car 4 months and this was my first time actually getting to drive it on the street with plates and everything all legal. I will post whatever they tell me here.

are you being sarcastic? Idk

The disc should not hang off the flywheel or pressure plate

drifter92
09-24-2019, 10:54 AM
Z1 told me today that I can get a full refund for the whole kit if I want, but I want to keep the flywheel so they sent me a pre-paid shipping label and they are going to refund me $292 for the clutch disc and pressure plate. New price is about $308 so I'm super happy.

Z1 is pretty cool I think. I bought several things from them over the years.

That PP looks like maybe it warped from bad material, but I always check the flatness of it....
