gzilla_'s R32 GTR Build. (Lots of Pictures. 56k beware)

Hello everyone,

What's going on! Mike here. I imported my R32 GTR around late October 2016. The car has a R34 RB26DETT with low mileage. Car has zero rust and was resprayed last year. I got it a for a steal.

The whole journey was awesome. I flew into Canada and bought the car from a friend. I drove straight to the border from the airport. I had zero issues at the border and I was in/out in less than an hour with zero paperwork filled out when I got there. This is my 14th car that I've owned since I've started driving and by far the best. (Coming from Evo's, STi's, etc) (I do hate the attention it grabs but you learn to deal with it). I've always wanted one and finally get to own it.

So winter was obviously near and I decided that I want to do as much preventative maintenance as I could before racing the car in 2017. My buddy John and I started taking the car apart to repair some minor leaks and replace gaskets. As we were taking off the head, there were some imperfections in the block.

Fast forward, the "preventative maintenance" turned into an all-out build. A friend on here said you should make a thread and document your build. So here I am, making a thread to share my progress. I am building the car primarilyfor Hill Climb / Auto-X so I'm looking to make between 500-600whp reliable power and then turn it up on a rare occasion if I ever feel the need to.

Today was a clean up day. Since we had the car gutted, we wanted to remove all the gunk that was underneath the carpet. Here's a before/after! Moving along nicely. Next on the to do list will be the back seat/trunk area so we can prep for the fuel cell!

Did the rear section and trunk last night. I still have little bits and pieces that are somewhat harder to remove. I started sanding down the floor and will continue to do more tonight so we can prep it for paint. Will be ordering another big piece for the build tomorrow!

We finally laid down the interior paint (3 coats). It looks good in person and happy with the result! We have a lot left over and will be covering the undercarriage with a coat as well. Covered up some in the trunk but the fuel cell will be showing up on Thursday so we did not paint it all since we'll probably be cutting out the spare tire well.

It has finally arrived!! The next big part to this build. We mocked up some possible ideas last night and have decided we are going to drop it flush and cut out the spare tire well. We will building a cage that will carry the tank and will serve its purpose/look good! We have our hands full for now so stay tuned!

Some more cage progress! Door bars have been added. The only thing left is the long bar behind the dash and weld everything into place. Sorry for some crappy cell phone pictures. Did not have my camera on me.

We decided to go with black to match the floor. We painted a tad bit of the door bar to see how it would turn out. After we painted it, we forgot to leave a bit exposed to weld the straight bar in behind the dash. We will sand it down and do that next.

Sorry it's been some time, we were just waiting for a few fittings to show up. Machine shop wrapped up their work and we picked up the engine. We ran into a few issues with trying to get it to fit at first. We tried the following day and were able to get it in with ease! Car is now getting IC piping fabricated as well as a 3.5" straight pipe out the rear. Stay tuned for that but this is how the car looks at the moment! Sorry for the cell phone pictures. They were sent from my friends phone.

Hopefully sometime next year. Just trying to get it up and running so I can get an auto-x or two in this season and then concentrate and all the safety requirements for hill climb.

It's been a while since I posted an update. We finally got the interior painted and matching gloss black. Majority of the oil fittings have arrived. A hole was cut in the firewall to make room for the oil drain because it would not fit. We are in the process of doing wiring at the moment and taking things out that are not needed anymore. We are trying to hammer things out in the timely fashion and hope to have it running sometime in October!

We will start running wires throughout the car here shortly and start getting power to everything!

It's been a while as life has gotten in the way but we're slowly returning to the car. Our goal is to have this wrapped up in the next 2 weeks as I am displaying the car at a big show. We pretty much tore the car apart to clean out all the AN lines and make sure there is no gunk inside of them. We will be putting everything together tonight. We have battery power and wired up the racepak as well. The switch panel is finalized and we will be tidying up the loose ends in the coming days! The GTR should see the dyno in about 2 weeks!
