I've been having this issue ever since i converted over to LS coilpacks.. I'm running the LS7 Coilpacks with built in heat syncs and seem to be getting spark break up. I've tried another set of coils to see if that would help but nothing..

I've already done the ignitor delete on my harness and grounded the coil packs to two seaparte spots, one on intake, one on chassis. The car seems to be breaking up at anything over 10psi.

Does anyone have any ideas before i convert back to stock coil packs with ignitor?

My setup is SR20VET with GTX3076 at 18lbs of boost and a plug gap of .20

What's the dwell time on the coils? You shouldn't need anything over 3-3.5ms

whats the plug gap? 10psi isnt much, should never have blow out that low unless the gap is .045 of something crazy like that.

I run stock toyota 1zzfe coils at 1000hp 58-60psi with no bow out. .018 gap

What VC are you running using the 1zzfe coils?

P11, i had to shave a few off the ribs off the coil shaft. but it wasnt a big deal. they fit tight, cheap and powerful...

hmm i just talked to my tuner and he said he didn't mess with the DWELL setting at all. I am not sure what it's currently set at, however he's going to check today.

What is your set at JR-SS?

I'd have to look but my ignition setup is different than yours. I'm running the factory igniter and AEM CDI coils. My plug gap is at .22 on NGK 7 iridium plugs. I have no issues deep into the 20psi range.

Honda k20 coilpacks works great ... my tuner has the fatest h-patern sr20vet in thw world .

But like jrss said dwell is realy important for coilpacks

Dwell isn't important for instragram likes, tho, amirite Devhin?

I had my tuner come by today and play with the dwell settings and it didn't seem to help at all. He set them at 3-3.5ms.

I have LS7 Coilpacks and was told by another source i should be up in the 5ms with these coil packs..

either way this issue is driving me crazy, i'm getting insane blow out by 7psi and up with a .20" plug gap!!

i'm about to switch back over to coil packs, is anyone familiar with the AEM ignitor?

I'm not familiar with the LSX coil packs these days. 5ms seems awfully steep of a charge rate though. I know the older truck packs would auto fire if you got them too hot and that could reak havoc on your motor.

Are you sure what you're experiencing is spark blow out?

Since you have the kind with the heatsinks built in, I'm assuming those are the "smart" kind. Don't dwell those more than 4ms or so or you'll be at risk of them auto firing early and thus causing detonation. They fire on their own once they reach saturation, even if it's sooner than your specified dwell time.

I had LS2 truck coils on my VET. Started getting breakup around 20psi and had to stop my dyno rental time. Since switched to IGN-1A coils and it seems fine but haven't gotten on the dyno yet.

Also, if you haven't already, obviously check grounds and that the coils have a good, dedicated 12v source.

yup, i gave up with the LS coilpacks. i'm going to be running the AEM 30-2840 ignitor and the mazworx denso coilpacks.

I'm going to use a stock sr coil pack harness and wire the plugs for the densos into it, however the denso coilpacks are only a 2 prong and the stock sr20 coil packs are a 3 prong.. (power, ground, signal)

With these denso coils which wires do i run to it? signal and power?

This is the coilpacks i will be going to.

and this is the ignitor.

this is so damn frustrating!!

Figured it out, swapped coil packs to the denso packs with aem ignitor and car works perfect!!

thanks guys!

How are those coils working for you now?

I havn't really been driving the car much due to my downpipe smacking my transmission, however for the 10 minutes i tested it out, the car felt great

Just as a future note for everyone else looking to upgrade their coils, don't buy that AEM ignitor. You can pull the same one from most German 4 cylinders like an Audi A4 for ~$30.

I just did a COP upgrade on my Miata. 4 channel ignitor, connectors and 4 CBR1000 coils. Cost was about $70 for all of it.

Lucky, can one not use the S13/S14 ignitor as well??

Yeah that's fine. But I'm assuming if someone is considering the AEM one that they don't have the SR one and in that case, they may as well go with a German Bosch one since those seem to go for less and can also be found in American junk yards.
