I was looking to change out just my pistons and rods. How much would it cost to change out the rods and pistons of my Sr20det? Not including labor.

Gotta remove the engine, pull pans and head so quite a bit...

pretty vague question so here is an answer, ive seen good condition stock ones sell for as low as $50 and a set of new Pauter's/JE's will set you back about $1500, so itll be somewhere between that or possibly more depending on what bearings and fasteners you use

Well I've been looking at pistons rods for around $750. I would like to use decent parts but nothing too pricey.

I need way more then just rods and pistons to change them out. I just stated the cost I want to spend on pistons and rods is $750.

I can hook you up on internals through work. PM me what you want.

Pistons and rods alone will accomplish nothing but wasting money. There is no need to change out the stock stuff unless you're going for over 400hp or so. Forget pistons and rods 400hp will cost you like $10k...

nevermind bearings, oil pump, machine work, and all the other shit you SHOULD be doing if you're going to build an engine......

So, although I typically ignore these threads, I will make some input as I am pricing out the same as well
If the engine is going to be opened up, there is a fairly large list of things to do apart from just rods and pistons
Rods/Pistons/Bearings/Rod bolts/rings/pins: Set from Mazworx is about $1100 shipped to your door
Head bolts: Mazworx has them for $184 + shipping
DE Oil Pump: $180 + shipping
Water Pump: $40-$60 BNIB
Gasket Kit (with Head Gasket): $200 + shipping from GSpec
Timing Chain kit (tensioner, gaskets, guides and chain): $300 + shipping from Mazworx
Machine work (Deck): $90-150
Machine work (bore/hone): $100-200
Machine work (Hot Tank): $60-$120
Total: About $2200 - $2500. Now, you can most definitely shop around and get things cheaper, but that is strictly a bottom end price. No head work involved. You can swtich to a VE head for about another 900-1100 (probably less if you just buy a full P11 VE long block, part out what you do not need and buy CAS and relocation kit).
So all in all, you are looking at $3500-$4000 for a very simple build.
DOESNT INCLUDE LABOR!
However, if you have to ask this question, you are already screwed...........

I dont think youre doing a ve head swap for 900-1100 ^
Id only do the 20v tho

I have a full spreadsheat done up and you are correct and I am low on that figure. I am at almost 1500 for a proper head swap while using a Nismotronic and the P12 peripheral hardware with a Xcessive IM.

Im still not buying it. Pm me the spread if youd be so kind to do so. i'm very intrigued.
Does this include vvl pistons? And you would literally be doing all the work yourself on this budget. No room for error.

Why are you including VE pistons (and rods), when that is already factored into the bottom end build??
The CP piston/Manley Rod combo goes for ~850 on Ebay all day.
If you have not done the calculations yourself, I suggest you do it and come back with your figures.
And yes, as mentioned, NO LABOR INCLUDED. I have it as the second to last line at form the end of my post, all CAPS, to drive my point across............
