i have them both installed and my stock outlet pipe is rubbing on my transmission bell housing, and i am wondering if anyone has encountered something like this, and also if anyone might know how much bigger an aftermarket outlet pipe would be and if any ideas on solving this problem, i was thinking to grind a lil bit and see if that helps, if not im kinda worried i might have to do alot of work :(

the manifold shouldn't change the position of the turbo since it bolts up to the stock turbo in the factory location so i would imagine its the way the t28 is bolted up or something, post some pictures

er.......i presume you arlready know this, but ssautochrome(aka the ebay special) isnt exactly known for their quality manifolds. though they are better than they used to be. maybe a few pics will help people get ideas on how to get that thing to stop rubbin. i dunno, just a suggestion.

is the turbo clocked wrong or is the turbo extension rubbing?

i cant get any pictures right now, the outlet pipe is rubbing, and i dont see how the turbo can be placed any differently then it is already

it is not that your tubine is placed different it could be clocked wrong and what that means is that the the two housings bolt up to the center bearing housing and they are just held on by the 13mm bolts that you see on the inner sides of the housings and the little (Brass?) plates now you can seperate them and they can be rotated and that will cause the turbine to be "CLOCKED" wrong. now your turbine could have been taken apart and cleaned up because the SR turbines have a problem with the oil seal seating when the get a huge carbon build up if you take it apart clean the seals with carb/choke cleaner and reassyble it then most of the time you fixed your problem. SO Anyway you turbine could be clocked wrong but if it is clocked wrong it will olny cause your oil return to hit or be miss-aligned. it will not make your outlet pipe hit. It MUST BE YOUR SSAUTOCHROME MANIFOLD it could be shallow or off??

i seem to have one of few ss manifolds that fit fine, i hear from others they need to bang down certain parts to get things to fit right...
yup... my problem was with the SS autochrome elbow..

The manifold is cheap (in price) and a guy over here ordered one for his s-14 well the support tab that gose in between the head flange and the manifold for support was not punched right...the bolt hole did not match up they punched the little tab backwards it has a 90 deg angle in it and only one side would fit but the other side was facing up instead of down on top of the holes hahahahah it was funny so I just took some tabs of my own and welded the pieces together and put some in between the runners for support. If you dont have a flexable front pipe and your muffler is not very stable you will crack the lower flange where the runners combine.

im just gonna figure it out when i get the money to fix it,or the time, but until then i have a crappy vibrating sound at 3 grand, hopefully i dont damage anything to badly. i know the ssautochrome manifold is at fault because it never rubbed when i had my stock manifold in. but that piece of shit is not going back in my car, ill just have to figure out a way to make it all fit correctly
and to the person about clocking the turbo wrong, this was a new s15 turbo so i dont beleive it was wrong and the oil return line was changed to make it fit correctly i beleive i dont remember but i dont think thats the reason
i think its just the manifold and turbo combination dont work together :)

Look around for a flexable front pipe it has the flexable piece in the middle of it that will stop the vibration. with that type of manifold your muffler swing puts a lot of stress on the neck where the runners combine and the hightemp mixed with a bumpy road will cause it to crack not to mention the deceleration (sp?) that vibrates the crap out of the entire manifold. GET THE FELXABLE FRONT PIPE. G00GLE it!

i just orderd a set of nismo exhaust hangers off ebay for 60 shipped, they have like ~20 left, that should help the sway

silviasichigo- can u explain more of what you meant i didnt quite understand where that piece goes and how it would stop my turbo outlet pipe from vibrating/rubbing on my transmission

Oh The flexable front pipe will not stop that your ss autochrome is probably just crappy. The flexable front pipe will keep your manifold from cracking you can get a HKS out let pipe which might be a little less hmmmm well I guess you can say edgy and will run smoothely down beside the engine the outlet pipe is only suppose to be more than an 1"~away from the tranny (I am pretty sure) what you might have to do is shave off that part of your tranny (just taking you own suggestion) That flex front pipe will just alleviate that crakcing problem.

im already planning on shaving the tranny, but i heard the hks style outlet pipe is worse then other ones because of the steering column

Hmmm I really would not know because I am right hand drive so I don't have the steering problem. Hmmm well Night pager has a few outlet pipes that are custom.

Well your not alone on this, I'm having the EXACT same problem (only my motor is sitting on my garage floor) and I have the stock s13 turbo. I do not feel that it has anything to do with the clocking of the turbo ,do to the fact that its not the side of the turbo that can be clocked(or maybe I'm missing somthing). I was going to look into buying an aftermarkit elbow to see if that helps( maybe you have to buy both Elbow and EM from SSautocrap, it would help if those fuckers had a contact phone number.
I got mine for $50 so I'm not out a huge chunck of cheese if it turns out to be defective.
I also put some thought into just finding/buying a turbo flang, and just MAKE my own elbow.
I will take pics of mine ,and post them on my " Is my ssautochrome mani a defect" thread

I searched for the flexible exhaust pipe and havent found any specific to the sr20det for our cars, just the generic ones that need to be welded in. I believe that a lot of people would have less problems with cracking manifolds if they had a flex pipe and stiff motor mounts.

if mine cracks, I will reweld it in about 10 minutes. I have already welded in a support brace that is about 100% stronger than the one provided.http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/587000-587999/587205_93.jpg see !!

I know this post is many months old ,but I have found that if you buy both the ssac exhaust mani, AND the ssac turbo elbow, it will solve this problem.
It's a little late ,but I hope this helps you or any one else having this problem....

Marketing at it's finest. For the ss autochrome manifold to clear everything you also have to buy the elbow :/ Taking notes...
