Putting together a budget big brake setup on my S14. So far i have a set of 05 is350 4-piston calipers ($75 junk yard) and 350z track rotors ($80 autozone). the calipers offset lines up with the offset of the mounting tabs on the front spindles and the bolt holes are about .35" off. looks like I'm going to have to weld extensions onto the cast front spindles. Trying to find a spare set of spindles to modify.

Why wouldn't you just buy Z brakes that bolt on?

I wanted to use a caliper that was designed to use a larger rotor for more brake pad contact area. the is350 caliper uses a 334mm rotor and the 350z track rotor is 324mm. the z32 caliper is designed for 280mm rotor. 350z track brembos are too expensive. But it looks like I'm just making more headaches for myself.

Why not just buy these?

That sounds safe

That sounds safe
welding cast steel can be done safely. Just like everyone who cuts and welds the tie rod arm on the spindle to make high angle spindles.

way to reinvent the wheel...
different =/= better

I guess very few people like to make stuff anymore.

Lots of people like to make things.
Reinventing big brake stuff for 240s doesn't make much sense.

true, it doesn't make much sense, but its fun building shit and cheaper too.

While this is true, it's completely unnecessary given the amount of aftermarket support for our cars. Plus, I'd trust a CNC'd steel bracket over welds on cast metal to hold my calipers any day of the week.

So let me just get this straight.
$250-300 fully rebuilt 300zx fronts with rotors that bolt on, or what seems cheap now which is a mess of miscellaneous junk yard parts with welded brake calipers?
The benefits just aren't there for the justification, yes it's unique but so was the idea of putting engines in the back of cars and even VW knows that's silly now.
Also consider the cost of material and tools needed, your cheap junkyard brake swap isn't cheap, possibly isn't reliable, and probably wont outshine a sorted Z32 or CTS-V swap, both of which being cheaper.
I'm all for building stuff and having the pride of being original, but trust me I have plenty of fabrication projects I've completed and kicked myself for not just buying the part that fit because often what seems like a cheaper solution snowballs into a mess of trying to make something work because your too committed to go back

Want cheap bigger front brakes on your 240? Get some j30 calipers and rotors from the junkyard. If u have the extra cash, get hawk hps for them. Wanna built shit and improve them? Built a BMC stopper bracket and a nice ventilation/cooling system.

There are plenty of safe options available. It sounds like you're doing it for the sake of doing it.
You could flip those calipers to an IS300 owner for 2 or 3 times what you paid for them and use the money for a bolt on Q45, J30 or Z32 and have a safe bolt on set up.

Zilvia has spoken, ditch this mess and get some Z32's
