hey guys,
everything was working a few days ago, but all of a sudden (after not driving the car for 2 days), my car won't rev about 3k, it just shakes and tries to go higher. Then when i release the gas, it goes all the way down to > 1k rpm.
i also noticed before this occured that when i would rev the car past 4-5k and let go, backfire would occur.
I'm thinking the 1st problem may be a boost leak, the second i'm not quite sure but maybe the tuning of my car?
I'm running on stock mafs and injectors, i don't have a filter on my mafs yet. I have installed an e-manage but haven't had it adjust anything yet. I was wondering how a turboed KA runs with stock inj, ecu, maf.
Any advice is appreciated.

haha... i had the same problem... then found out my MAF blew... and seemingly im getting a new one... havent put it in yet but my friend said it went so im gettin an RB20/25DET MAF to replace it... im just waiting on my MAF to come in... it also might be boost leak (in which other people told me) but my piping was tight so the only thing left was the MAF... i'll let you know if the new one makes everything alright...
im running t3/t4 w/intercooler and stock injectors, fuel pump on my KA-T

dang if it is broke that kinda sucks. What causes a MAFS to crap out like that?
Luckily i was upgrading to a z32 MAFS, are there any precautions i can take to ensure that this that MAFS doesn't do the same as this one?

Check your MAF connection... sometimes the connector gets loose or dirty and causes this. Especially if you don't have the little metal clip on it to hold the connector in place.

first i would try cleaning off the hotwire. running with no filter can let a lot of shit in and contanminate it. can you monitor the mafs voltage with your emanage? try to see what it is at idle, 1500 rpm, and 2000 rpm.

so i took my mafs off and put it back on - same thing won't let me rev above 3k. so i took it off completely and ran my car and it did let me rev above 3k
what does this mean? is my mafs shot?

sounds like it chief, go get a cobra maf, z32, rb etc, they're not too expensive, however i dont know what tuning is involved on putting on a totally different MAF than waht came from the factory? gurus?

If you through a different mafs on you need something like an SAFC, and if it does the same on and off its almost def. the MAFS. Check the voltage coming out, its been a while cant remember which wire
ones ground, one is constant power, and the other is the one u need a reading off of. The FSM has a graph of what voltage it needs to read.

yeah your mafs is fucked, go get one off another car and stop running it with no filter.

3 most possible causes to your problem:
-MAF is messed up (maybe)
-Boost leak (likely)
-Spark plug gap is too large (possible)
Other causes are possible but I dont feel like thinking right now
And, for crying out loud, get some injectors and stop running on those stockers. I also hope you arent running on the stock pump.

my car is running great with out the maf "hotwire" in it...one day i took off the intake hose to remove my fan shroud and look in the maf sensor and the filament thing is gone...but she runs fine and revs fine should i still get a new maf?

Maybe he already got new injectors. After all, it has been over a month since he posted the problem.
