View Full Version : How Low Can Tein HEs Go?

When i installed my HE's I set all of the mesurements of each coilover exactly like the install instructions said. With those measurments they lowered my car 1" at all for corners.

:loco: I am afraid to adjust them b/c I dont want to damage them in any way. But Can these coilovers go any lower than 1"? If so I want to be able to lower my car at least another 1/2" or 1", what measurments should I set on the coilovers?

---Ive never owned a set of coilovers before my HE's, so this question may sound dumb---

Thanks
Danny

yeah they can go pretty low. But i hate they way the perch/collar design is in the front. I have r33's with an 8mm spacer in the front and if i go any lower than a 2 finger gap, my wheels hit the perch.

It's so gay....

With that said, with the right offset, you can tuck the fronts with HE's. Rear will be close depending on tire size.

How/what do I ajust to lower the coilovers?

Can the car be lowered without having to take each wheel off to adjust the coilover? What do I need to adjust on the coilover to lower the car?

Yes it can be lowered with out taking off the wheel, the entire unit can be rotated, but the car has to be up in the car maybe on a ramp...

I found they go really low in the rear... (body will touch the ground), but conflict with rear upper arms, the angle of the coilover becomes to much and hits the upper arm... so you have to upgrade to half upper arm to go any lower. My spring still gets caught on my stock upper arm, when i go up driveways and shit. (so loud).

My front is dropped approx 5 - 6 inchs.
rear is about the same.

the front will not tuck 16"s

It doesnt harm it to drop it all the way in the front becuase it doesnt minimize shock travel ( the good thing about having a adjustable pearch.) Stays the same all the time.

Rear you can lessen shock travel though...but they have adjustable cups in the back so you dont have to adjust the coilover seats much.

This is about as low as they go without precompressing the springs much:

Not sure how many inches that is, but a big difference from the 4x4 stock suspension.

What do I adjust to lower the car, without precompressing the spring?

you use the lower adjustment, dont mess with the 2 lock rings under the coil.

Can that be done without taking the wheel off or even jacking up the car?
The jack I have barley fits under my car with a 1" drop.

Use the scissor jack first, then get the regular jack under there...

Taking wheels off takes all of <5 minutes and makes things oh so much easier... Laziness. :keke:

And the HEs could easily go 3/4" - 1" lower than this... about a .5 finger gap up front and a .75 finger gap in the rear (real scientific I know). It could tuck.

My HEs are probably at least 2.5" F and R, with a more room to go if I wanted. The rear 18x9s nearly tuck as it sits, the fronts are close too, and with some camber they really look mean. Only problem I have is any more lowering on the front using the perch and the strut bottoms out on the balljoint. Rears have no clearance issues and it's sprung tight enough that rubbing is not an issue even over harsh bumps.

you guys can measure the height of your fenders, to see how low you are
here is what the stock fenders should be at
