Whats up Zilvia,

I have been a member on here for quite some time and so I figured might as well write up a build thread that I’ve always wanted to do.

Some brief background about me: I’m Joe I am 24 living in Toronto, Canada. I started getting into s-chassis when I first started getting into drifting back in late elementary school. I’ve probably watched every Drift Tengoku volume 10 times over by now. For some reason most of the cars that left a lasting impression in my mind were s-chassis, first and foremost being Koguchi’s black 180, Itoh’s red 180, Nob’s s15 and of course Itai’s 180. I knew one day I wanted to own one and build it like all the ones I saw in the videos.

My plans were when I was 16 to buy a 240sx hatch and build a black type x with Blitz 03’s (before Damon made everyone and their brother want them ;P ). Those plans got derailed when I ended up buying my first car. Which was a 1966 mustang fastback lol. My dad and I built that up to be a trans am styled 65 gt350 clone and it got featured on Speedhunters! I won’t bore you with mustang talk as this is a Japan style build.

Fast forward to October 2015 when my 23rd birthday was approaching (Oct 14 if you care lol). I decided it was time to find an s13 and on October 1st 2015 I bought my first 240! For the price I couldn’t complain. It was a 1993 red hatch, originally an auto car that was swapped over to 5 speed by the previous owner that summer. Full multilink, 5 lug conversion, 180sx brakes, carbon hood, rpf1’s, B&M short shifter and a giant sub in the trunk.

I drove the car for the next two months before I stored it for the winter and that’s where the 2001 Drift style bug got to work.

Once the car was in storage I started scouting for parts. My ideal vision of a 180 always included a hotroad kit so I knew I had to find a way to get one from Japan. As much as I loved type x cars, hot road always put the car that much more above an OEM kit. The more aggressive lines to the kit add to the character of the car and it gives it a subtle but aggressive nature to the car.
I ended up finding an imported 180sx from Alberta that appeared to have Hot Road skirts on it. I contacted the owner and asked if he was interested in selling them. To my luck he had just removed them and was intending to list them for sale. Soon enough we made a deal and they were on their way to Toronto. Now I had to complete the kit.

https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7582/15745730076_cc5845a788_c.jpg

At this time, I was contemplating different front bumper options. In Toronto we have to run front license plates and I wasn’t a big fan on running the plate half covering the Group A vents on the standard hotroad bumper. My other option was running a GT-1 front with the rest of the hotroad kit. Upon talking to some GT-1 owners the front lip would hang far too low compared to the hotroad sides and it would not look that great.

My all-time favorite 180sx, Adam from C’s garage always ran the stock type x bumper with the plate cut out and pulled it off perfectly. I decided that was the route I liked the most and instead of running the Oem lip I would run the optional (larger than Oem) Hotroad Lip on my oem bumper to match the rest of the kit.

I called up my local importer and asked if they were interested in importing the kit for me. After finalizing the details we called up HotRoad Japan and ordered the front lip and rear valance. Onto the bad news.. This importer was well known in the area but had not been doing much business on parts importing. I placed the order (paid in full) the first week of January. I was told it would arrive 2-3 months which I was ok with. The kit ended up arriving 6 MONTHS Later!

On the other hand during this time, I ended up selling the carbon hood in place of a red stock one and sold the RPF1’s to fund my new wheels. Oh and also got rid of that pesky sub.

The wheels I ended up with were not my long loved Blitz 03’s but Blitz Z2’s! I was totally stoked on finding a set of these wheels as they were what Koguchi ran in the black phase of his 180. The sizes were 18x9 +35 and 18x10 +10 with pretty large factory lips. These were almost the exact same size Koguchi ran.

https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5786/31451199045_02bd7f1733_c.jpg

The faces were in good shape but the lips were pretty oxidized. I decided to take them apart and attempt to polish them up myself as quotes for shops to polish were +1000$. This I was doing by hand! No polishing brushes or drills for me lol (I’ll try and find some pics of that messy process)

The wheels came out pretty good if I say so myself, especially for attempting this with no prior experience.
I rolled the car out of storage and immediately put on the new wheels. With the help of 25mm spacers all around, they fit pretty well! I was stoked!

Just before I pulled the car out of storage I was buying a Type x wing off a local guy and he offered me a sweet deal on Oem Type x seats. I wasn’t really in the market for seats at the time as I had already spent a bunch of money on the kit and wheel, oh and brand new kouki 180sx tails I picked up on Black Friday. But the deal was too good to pass up so I bought them.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5687/31305201352_ef6d5fd080_c.jpg

Now the waiting game for the kit to arrive….

As the car came out of storage I started to really enjoy driving it around as it started to shape into the image I had imagined. One afternoon at work I had received a missed call from my importer. I called back and turns out my kit had finally arrived!... in July.
As soon as I had my lunch bread I headed on over to the importers and crammed the kit into my mom’s car I was driving at the time. And of course the second I got home it was time for a test fit!

https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5731/30642653933_b30caf26b3_c.jpg

I could finally see the image I was waiting for. Having always dreamed of a Hotroad kitted 180 and never seeing one in person before I was very impressed.

As for the quality and fit of the kit, it fit perfect. No trimming or forcing was needed to get the kit on. In those pictures the kit is actually just holding itself on the car.

Now it was time for paint. Over the last few months I had gotten pretty close with Damon (CamryOnBronze) and I knew of his plans on running hotroad and Z2’s. That took black off the table as I knew we both wouldn’t want identical cars. We brainstormed many colors from midnight purple, ferarri red, white and blue. Damon had an old Australian magazine featuring Itai’s car and had sent me a bunch of screen grabs of it. I’ve always loved that car but didn’t feel like I could pull it off. Especially the fact that a few guys have ran a blue hotroad car but it was never “right.” I knew if I were to do it, it would have to be done right.
The decision was made and I sent the car off to the body shop.

Little did I know how long this process would be. I initially was told that the job would take two weeks. Obviously I knew that wouldn’t be the case and expected it to be a little longer. I would visit the car once a week to see what progress was made so I could document it. Three months later and the car was still sitting untouched. Keep in mind it was the summer at the time and here in Canada that’s only about 6 months, and it had already been in there for 3. Finally, after being persistent in my checkups the car was painted.

https://c4.staticflickr.com/6/5347/30642859243_f22909d17c_c.jpg

During the time the car was at the shop I couldn’t help myself in tinkering and buying parts. One day while browsing our local craigslist I came across a genuine miracle x bar! I couldn’t pass this part up. I messaged the seller and turned out it came off an imported type x from japan. I drove over that day and picked it up. In addition, I was pondering the idea of selling the z2’s and buying bronze TE37’s to complete the Itai look. It didn’t help that a local 240 owner had kept bugging me to sell him the Z2’s and Damon had mentioned to me he had a set of 17” TE’s he possibly would sell.

I messaged the local guy asking if he still was interested. Turns out he was and agreed on a price I was happy with and they were sold! I immediately told Damon I wanted the TE’s and that deal was made. Here come the TEs! Well the fronts at least. I sourced a set of 4 18 x 9.5 for the rear and bought those. I ended up selling the extra pair of 18s to Damon lol (after I bought his fronts). As you will see later this is a trend, Damon and I like to swap parts a lot haha.

As I said earlier if I was building an Itai themed 180sx I had to do it “right.” This leads me to one of my favorite parts of the car, the “Hurricane” mirrors. There are many mirrors out there that are very close to the ones Itai ran but I had to have the exact ones. I knew they were super rare so my researching skills came into work. I knew Jesse Streeter ran them so I got into contact with him and the good guy that he is kept an eye out for me. Somehow with some luck I was able to source two pairs of brand new correct model hurricane mirrors within two weeks! I quickly snatched them up and they were on their way to me. The second pair I later traded to Damon ;)

The weekend I brought home the car the second I started fitting on all the pieces of the kit.
The new wheels were on, kit fitted and mirrors mounted. The final product turned out great!

At this time, it was now the end of summer and fall was approaching. I wanted to drive and enjoy the car as much as I could for the remainder of the season. I have to say I was very happy with the car at this point, it looked good, the KA drove well and never gave me a problem.

Along came FINAL BOUT!

I had always wanted to attend final bout and after speaking with Damon and a few local guys I had decided to make the trip out. (I had gone back and forth with driving my car down but ultimately decided a 14 hour trip in an s13 would not be fun, especially to just park in the parking lot).

The local guys I headed out there with were Trickey_ab (now jzx 100 chaser) and Martino in his white s15. The trip was great! Met a whole bunch of great people, ate, drank, had some laughs and saw some awesome cars and drifting. The main message I had in my head at the end of it was I needed more power! The stock KA was not cutting it.

https://c4.staticflickr.com/6/5594/31450705715_be1dcc161b_c.jpg

So when I came back I began sourcing a SR swap. I ended up finding a complete red top SR out of a local car that had a few upgrades to it. It needed some parts that I collected to complete the setup. The new swap consisted of: Stock bottom end and head, stock intake, stock exhaust manifold that I had modded with a 38mm tail external wastegate, Garrett gt2871r 86. housing, oil filter relocation, exedy stage 2 clutch, greddy style fmic, aluminum rad, 640cc injectors and an apexi power fc. I also picked up a Kakimoto exhaust for the car, the exact one Itai ran.

Once the spring came I rolled the engine out on a dolly and gave it a freshening up.

https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5753/31080264930_89a5cf59d5_c.jpg

For the engine bay, I knew I wouldn’t be able to match the exterior bayside blue paint and I had always loved silver engine bays. So I decided to paint it silver. Martino came over and gave me a hand cutting out the rusty parts and welding in fresh metal. Martino also has had some experience painting engine bays so he ended up spraying mine for me as well. It turned out pretty good for an at home job.

Over that winter I also couldn’t leave well being with the interior. I had always wanted red Bride seats so I picked up a mint red Zeta 2 and a red brix 1.5. In the meantime I had sold the ugly sparco steering wheel that came with my car and bough a brand new black Nardi classic 330mm. I grabbed some Bride seat rails and installed those together. I also picked a brand new pivot shift knob, the same one Itai ran.

https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5509/31305408052_4b77801d02_c.jpg

Remember the trend of Damon and I swapping parts? Well.. Damon had decided to switch his car over to all oem type x last winter this included interior. Lone and behold I just so happened to have a full set of 180sx interior that needed a new home. To my benefit Damon also had a Koguchi power hood that needed a new home. We decided to come to a deal with selling each other the parts and it worked out as I also purchased a Sato roll cage from a friend of his that I needed to pick up at his house. So now this was perfect I can drop off the seats and pick up the cage and hood at the same time.

So one sunny Saturday morning, my Dad and I loaded up the van and made the 5 hour trip from Toronto to Damon’s house in Michigan. It was good to see him since I hadn’t since final bout last fall. He showed me what he was up too with his car and got to meet his family (great people). We loaded up the car, said our goodbyes and headed back home.

https://c8.staticflickr.com/6/5728/31450850775_9e2974e412_c.jpg

I also picked up some old school white face Greddy Peek gauges and installed those. The only place I could ever put those was definitely in the passenger side dash. After watching countless doriten in car videos. “Everyone” in that era had them there, and it was a must for me. It just looks so perfect. I also painted my nasty grey carpet with black spray paint. Turned out really good for spending 5$ on paint. Its not even crunchy.

Back to the engine, I finally got that swapped into the car once the bay was all painted. When the car first fired it was running only on 3 cylinders… oh no! Upon further assessment the power FC I had bought from Japan was actually for a blacktop SR not Redtop. It didn’t help that my dyno tune was booked for the next day so when I got home from work I quickly repined the harness and all cylinders fired up! Off to the tuners!

Putting your car on the dyno is always a nerve raking feeling. Being a motor with a stock head gasket I was slightly worried. I got more worried as I found out my trans had no reverse coming off of the trailer… GREAT! After a few test runs the motor seemed to hold up ok. It sounded really good as well with the old school Greddy BOV, dump pipe and kakimoto exhaust. Catastrophe stuck when oil shot everywhere on one of the runs. As we didn’t really see where it came from our guess was the oil feed line to the turbo. Back to the garage it went.

After taking off the manifold the turbo line was completely intact and we determined it was oil that shot out of the dipstick, as the dipstick did shoot up when it happened. To prevent this from happening again, I routed my catch can back to the suction side of the turbo to help relieve some crank case pressure. I booked another tune and it was back on the dyno. This time everything went smoothly. I wanted something conservative so we kept boost at 16lbs and the car made 310whp and 286 tq. Not bad for me so I was happy.

Now I had to source a new trans and pull the old one out after just installing it a week earlier. I enjoyed driving the car afterwards and was getting ready to take it to a surprise skid pad day Martino was hosting for Jordie (Dolph_KYAS13). The week leading up to the event I had kept losing gears when downshifting to stop lights. We decided it was probably the slave cylinder so swapped in a new one. It worked for a day or so then it was back again. Now a new clutch master cylinder. Worked for an hour then BAM no gears at all driving home at 1 am, the night before the track day. I managed to limp the car back to Martino’s shop since I wasn’t far and now we could hear loud clacking coming from the engine bay. At this point we thought it was a broken pivot ball in the trans or rod knock :( .

The next morning sucked as we all met at the shop to head to the track in the morning and my car was sitting in the background broken. My luck with this car after the swap was clearly not on my side.

We pulled the trans out the next week and found the flywheel bolds had backed off almost an inch!! They were hitting the clutch and that was the loud clacking we could hear. I hadn’t touched the clutch or flywheel at all when I bought the swap as I figured the previous owner kinda knew what he was doing whenever he installed it. Lesson learned the hard way.

https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5675/31080326310_5a98c866e8_c.jpg

The flywheel was then bolted up with new arp bolts and lock tight. Trans back in and ready to roll again. But as luck serves me, it wasn’t done. As we rolled the car off the wood after the jackstands, the wood kicked up and ripped my front hotroad lip off… greaaaaat!

At this point I was so tired and frustrated with the car I just wanted to go out for a rip. The car finally drove nice and pulled hard. I enjoyed driving it around for the rest of the summer and planned on going to a drift event in August. The days leading up to the drift day, I finally got my koguchi power and fitted that on the car. It is by far one of my favorite 180sx parts out there, I've always planned on getting one.

In addition, I picked up Zestino’s for my front spare model V’s and some new evergreens for the rear Model V’s (didn’t want to mess up the TE’s on track).

My buddy Liam (Kirbz_Stomps) with the crazy cool R34 and previous 2jz cefiro, stressed to me the importance of a locked dif and not to run a vlsd. Being the nice guy he is he let me borrow the welded out of his old cefiro and helped me install it.

The next morning I loaded up the car with spare wheels and tools and headed out to the track 2 hours away. Despite having a 4:3 in the rear end the car drove great there. Once I arrived I swapped on the spare Model V’s and was ready to head out for my first drift day. Liam jumped in the car with me to show me the track and give me a few pointers.

Oh and my lip still hasnt been fixed so the front looks shitty.

Going out on track felt great! I let the car warm up and gripped a few corners to get a feel of how the car reacted on the track surface. I kicked it out the last two turns of my first lap and headed onto the final straight. As soon as I started the straight away we heard loud clacking…. OH NO! I turned my 4 ways on and coasted. Liam stuck his head out of the window trying to get a better point of view. We rolled into the pits and to our expectation it had spun a rod baring.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. After all the hard work and hurtles the car had given me this summer it wouldn’t be complete without this result. The biggest disappointment was that it didn’t even last one lap. I wouldn’t have complained as much if it did it at the end of the day and I at least had a day of fun.

Now since I drove the car there I would have to find a way to get it home. Lucky enough my friend’s girlfriend had CAA and offered to let me use her free tow.

https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5505/31452114345_3957a726fa_c.jpg

I got the car home and pushed it into the garage, not wanting to touch it until winter as I was sick of the headaches and constant money I’ve been throwing at it. Not even to say I got two months of driving it this summer.

So a new motor is in the plans, more on that later.

Thanks for reading,

Joe.

I haven't really paid attention to build threads as much as I once did, but its always nice to see the behind the scenes work behind the nice cars out there such as this one and all the stories in between.

Excellent execution on the theme of the car, things like this get me amped to get going on my own

Here are some more pics of the process that I wasn't able to upload because of the pic limit.

These are the Greddy gauges I'm running. (Boost, water temp, oil pressure and oil temp)
I went with a black boost gauge as I wanted to run it on the steering column in front of the cluster. I thought a white one would stick out too much and look out of place surrounded by all the black plastics. So I opted for the black version of the same gauge to be more subtle.

https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5605/30642856213_ef8d00e109_c.jpg

I dont have a great pic of it in the car but you get the idea. I also swapped out the bulbs for new LED ones I bought off ebay. SO much better and brighter!

https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8197/29041599833_5bbaffdb2b_c.jpg

This is the Kakimoto Exhaust I picked up for super cheap off yahoo auctions. The canister and tip were really burnt up but cleaned up very well with some wd40 and a SOS pad.

https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5651/31080315590_8e6f196e35_c.jpg

Some more details on the motor cleaning. I pulled all the accessories off and went at it with a scrub brush and a lot of degreaser. It worked decently well but not to the degree I would be satisfied with, so I decided to paint the block. I used Engine Enamel Cast Aluminum. I think it turned out awesome.

After scrubbing:

After paint:

Here is also a detail of the turbo side of the motor. I wanted a clean look as I wasnt a big fan of nasty looking stock manifolds after they get heat cycled. I sprayed the manifold with a high heat charcoal color and found a not rusted out heat shield. I had that sandblasted and painted it with the same cast aluminium as the engine. I obviously couldn't mount the heat shield with the wastegate installed so I cut a circular hole just big enough to clear the gate and set it down. It turned out neat.

https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5575/31080267050_1e3a42279c_c.jpg

I got an alignment before the first track day attempt (the day the flywheel almost fell off)

I also lowered the car a bit after final bout. Since I saw how low Damon and Tony (Midwest_Myraid) were lol. This pic is from this year after the KP hood. But you get the idea of how it sits. One finger rule!!

As far as the motor. I picked up a built longblock that I have been putting together over the last few months. I'll write a detailed update on that soon.

Alrighty, time for update round 2!

So we left off with the SR deciding it hated life after one lap at the track. Well I got the car towed home and into the garage it went to be neglected until the fall.

I started taking the motor apart in September. A few buddies of mine had suggested it might be a broken rocker arm, being such a loud clacking. With not much hope I pulled the valve cover off and everything seemed to be ok. Now I headed to the oil pan. I removed the oil pan and found shavings as expected, but no indication as to why it failed. Nothing seemed lose or falling apart.
Digging deeper I pulled off the oil pickup and found a huge hole in the mesh….. how did that happen?

https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/603/31633835841_a07b3ab8c6_c.jpg

I peered up in the oil pickup gallery and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I could see a washer sitting right inside the oil gallery loose.

https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/345/31633828211_21700fe2a5_c.jpg

https://c7.staticflickr.com/1/471/31377496430_ce073b5c8a_c.jpg

There is my suspect that caused the malfunction, restricting oil through the pickup. I know I hadn’t dropped a washer in the motor bc I had yet to work on anything internal. All I had done was stripped and added the accessories and cleaned up the block.
Upon further analysis and direction from some knowledgeable SR friends. I was told the washer was a 10mm factory washer and they are old used in two places on an SR. On the bolts holding the oil pickup and its baffle and the caps holding the cams down. Well I had already taken the pickup off and all the hare wear was there so that left one other spot. I removed the valve cover again and instantly I saw the problem. All the cam cap washers appeared the same except one. One washer was a bright gold color. Clearly this one had been changed.

https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/764/30940442683_7d5f8a0949_c.jpg

My suspicions are whoever owned this motor prior had done some or on the head/cams and dropped the front washer down the timing cover and just replaced it with another one, not to be bothered to search for the missing washer. It is still unclear to me how the washer broke through the pickup mesh but I also suspect that was done before I owned the motor, since I had only been driving it for 2 months on weekends or sunny days.

This gets even better for this motor as I found the oil filter relocation that the previous owner had installed was on backwards… Therefore the oil feed out was the block was going into the “exit” side of the filter and out the “feed” side of the filter block.

The motor was doomed since the beginning with the washer and oil filter relocation. Not to mention the flywheel and trans that the owner messed up on as well. I guess this explains why I would get poor oil pressure on idle on my gauge. I always assumed it was a faulty gauge as I bought used old Greddy gauges from japan with used sensors. The gauge would read normal on startup then fall low and would peek up and down with the Revs. The stock light didn’t come on either so I thought it was a faulty gauge.

I decided it would be more costly to rebuild this motor when I had a line on a built long block (with very low mileage, max 2 summers) for sale locally. This motor was built by a friend’s good buddy and I had personally seen the car running and driving. It’s always sketchy to buy an already built motor but a lot of my s-chassis friends vouched for the motor as they had ridden in the car so I felt comfortable. It was a cheap price so I couldn’t pass it up.

The spec list for the new motor includes:

- Stock head fully rebuilt, cleaned, polished and decked with factory cams.
- ARP head studs
- All ARP hardware throughout the motor; main and rod studs and bolts
- ACL race bearings all around
- Tomei connecting rods
- CP 87mm 9:1 pistons
- Greddy oil pan
- Cometic 1.3mm head gasket

Everything was of course honed, cleaned and polished and balanced the rotating assembly.

I picked up the motor one Friday night and saw that it had been sitting for a while in his garage and had collected a good amount of dirt. He had mentioned to me that the timing cover had been sweating causing the front of the motor to be caked with oil.

https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/614/31633822671_eff205cfd5_c.jpg

I couldn’t put the motor in the car being this way so I gave it a blast with the power washer and a bunch of degreaser. It came out decent but still wasn’t happy as my other motor was spotless.

Much better! Now it just needs my Candy blue powder coated valve cover.

During the downtime of not driving the car I had debated selling my turbo setup. I really liked the 2871r and the power it made. But as most builds go I figured, “I’m here now, I have a built motor might as well have a cool turbo setup.” Lol

https://c3.staticflickr.com/1/741/30908447674_77047b42d4_c.jpg

Staying true to my Japanese style I’ve always wanted a TD06. Although this is old tech when it comes to modern turbos, I wanted to keep that Japanese 2000’s drift aura and run one. Hardly anyone in North America runs one let alone Canada. It’s something cool to me when you open the hood and see a TD06 rather than “sick precision or Borge Warner turbo bro!” All the old school JDM turbos like Greddy, HKS etc have something awesome about them and sound so cool.

In addition, I’ve always wondered how the Japanese guys had such nasty sounding Sr’s. They sound so raw and absolutely scream! I found the key, TD06 and midmount! True iconic Japanese SR sound.

Being that Greddy hadn’t produced a mid-mount manifold in over a decade I was having trouble finding a decent condition one. I had stumbled upon a Australian shop that made an almost exact replica of the original so I decided to go for it.

Original:
http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj262/mike240sx/Mobile%20Uploads/D036AA30-FE21-4052-8496-81C14D4B81B4_zpsqy4vl89g.jpg

New replica:
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/5rgAAOSwepJXUYMN/s-l300.jpg

The only problem was that the dump pipe goes right through where the steering column is on a LHD chassis. Time for me to think of a clever way around that…

In the meantime I kept my eye out for a TD06 turbo in good condition. I ended up finding a complete kit on Yahoo japan randomly one morning before work. The buy now was super cheap so I quickly messaged Jesse Streeter to jump on it. A week later and I had a giant package at my door!

https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/663/31633840701_bb00d6ee9f_c.jpg

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/265/31377490960_cd4d1645e5_c.jpg

I scored a low km (3000 km) TD06-L2, Greddy 50mm type r wastegate, greddy turbo elbow and a Greddy Top mount manifold. I really wanted the L2 version as it is made specifically for a 2L motor and supposed to be great on an SR. I also have the 8 cm rear housing version of it.

Unfortunately, the manifold was cracked due to the massive type r waste gate. But that was fine as I wasn’t using that manifold anyway. Looks pretty cool tested out on the new motor.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/575/31603270632_45b7eee4c2_c.jpg

In the meantime I sold my old turbo setup to cover the cost of the new purchase. I was now waiting for my new manifold to be made in Australia. In the next update I’ll show you my clever way of fitting the massive type R waste gate and hopefully bring the thread up to date to where I am now.

Thanks again,
Joe.

I really dig this build and am keen on the 90s styles you and the boys (Jodie / Martino) have done.

Keep the updates rolling!

The TD06 is a badass turbo. My boy Sylas (TheRealSy90) is running the same turbo and went through a few setups and manifolds. He has a method of cutting the dump pipe off somewhere and routing it elsewhere. Ill have to find the photos on facebook.

I fancy the rad build and different direction with the kit and mirrors!

Time for a quick little update!

So we left off with grabbing the new motor and giving it a clean.

The big problem with why the new motor was so dirty was that the timing chain cover was leaking from where it meets the head gasket.

I wasn't about to put a motor in and get it all greasy again after cleaning. Also, I have heard bad things about cometic head gaskets so I decided to change it out for a new Tomei one since the motor was currently out on the ground.

Never done this before so my buddy Liam came over and gave ma a hand disassembling the head and replacing the headgasket.

While we had the head off we cleaned up the pistons so the CP forged pistons were nice and shinny again.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/639/31633821621_2fc485dd18_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/659/31377490040_535074dd94_c.jpg

After that was all done I started to pull the blown motor out of the car to make way for the new heart.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/319/31633831501_65d01bc13c_c.jpg

Going back to the midmount manifold. Since the original position of the wastegate pipe is meant for RHD cars the steering shaft is directly in the way. I have seen other people reroute the pipe around the steering shaft but that would have to be done on the car and not while the manifold was being made in Australia..

Also the Greddy type R wastegate is absolutely MASSIVE and it would be a tight squeeze. I still wanted to use that gate either way. So I came up with the idea of placing the wastegate between the front crossmember and front sway bar (next to the oil pan), since there is quite a lot of room there. Having the extra motor on the side made mocking it up extra easy.

I took my wastegate and placed it where i needed to to be and took a bunch of pictures with measurements that I sent to the manifold builder.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully this year means more driving and less working on it.

To pick up where I left off.

While I waited for the manifold to arrive I had installed the new motor and began to hook up all the wiring and accessories.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/687/30940437113_50a865f1f4_c.jpg

Obviously the first thing I did when the manifold arrived was test fit it!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/682/31750230815_edd080bfca_c.jpg

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/773/31633823471_aa75ba67f0_c.jpg

It fit extremely well. It cleared the steering shaft and the wastegate flange was in the perfect spot just how I wanted it. After inspecting, I wanted some extra room between the manifold and the steering shaft so I wedged the motor mount 1/4 inch on that side just to gain some extra clearance.

I love the look of the top mounted turbo compared to my prior setup. Being that it is a midmount setup also adds a bit of extra excitement to me as a lot of people have never seen this setup before and seem to ask a lot about it.

I cant wait to hear it!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/629/31712582816_1f6fa3e367_c.jpg

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/487/31377487360_cb160477b0_c.jpg

The car was now ready to get the downpipe and hot-side of the intercooler made. I don't have any welding skills so I towed the car over to my friends shop to get it fabed up for me.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/587/31712576886_5ceb38c31d_c.jpg

The day I brought the car over it had snowed lightly, this made for some cool pictures. This is probably the first time the car has seen snow since maybe the early 90's.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5603/31633830661_837b4fbf5b_c.jpg[/img

It didnt take long for the piping to get all made up. We decided to weld the greddy cast aluminum elbow to the compressor housing to help gain some more room in the tight area. It turned out pretty well. Unfortunately, the day I had decided to pick up the car we had the worst snow storm of the year. To put it in perspective a 15 minute drive to my house from the shop took 8 hours to leave my house and get back home with the car. The car was covered in snow.

Since the TD06 is oil cooled and does not require water lines I capped the water inlet and outlet on the motor. I then ordered new Aeroquip fittings and braided line from Summit, to make up the new oil feed line to the turbo. I decided that I wanted to run a heat sleeve on the line as well as cover the surrounding power steering lines in the area around the manifold. Regrettably I ordered them through Ebay back on Nov 29th and I am still waiting for them to arrive... That's holding me back on finally bolting up the turbo side with all the gaskets and firing it up. I hope they arrive soon or I'll have to order from somewhere else.

In the meantime I've found some other projects to do on the car but more on that later.

Thanks again,

Joe.

Hey cool guy, I didn't know about this. Check to see what date is the last one that you can file for a charge back. After you figure that out, I'd go and source it else where. Then when you do find it (and it's in stock) hit up the seller and ask for a FIRM ETA. If it's outside of the charge back date, thank him for wasting your time, and get it else where (and then get your funds back).

Awesome work!

Hahah thanks man! and I'm from Canada :keke:

love finally reading your build start to finish. always admired your guys east coast style and attention to detail!! my buddy James visited you guys over the summer and we were all drooling over the shots he took! haha
keep it up, hope to see it in person one day, and cant wait to hear that mid mount!

Thanks dude love your build too. Ya I remember when James came out here, he was with us the night I got held up by the cops for two hours downtown ahah

Alright so time for another update.

So it was around Christmas now and I was still waiting for my heat sleeve to arrive. Having nothing to work on and waiting on parts to arrive, I always find myself strolling online temping myself at buying new items.

One day when looking at our local 240 Facebook group I noticed a relatively cheap priced 2-way pop up for sale. I had borrowed Liam's welded last year to do the drift day (the one when my motor broke), and knew that I'd need something to replace it when I gave it back to him. I've always wanted to go with a two way rather than a welded and I wanted to change up my final drive ratio. My current VLSD has a 4.3 final drive. Although its great for acceleration, I hate driving it on the highway. Having a 2 hour drive to the track buzzing almost 4k just to keep up with traffic was not fun. This new diff has a stock ratio of 4.08 I believe.

I picked that up and have to install it once it gets a bit warmer outside (currently -6 Celsius, 21* F for you Americans) so I can crawl under the car.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/376/31845997314_7fc624d5b6_c.jpg

Telling myself not to buy more parts hasn't really worked. (I'm not very convincing lol)

I always wanted R34/350z Brembos and that was the plan this winter before the motor went. Unfortunately, its unrealistic for me to spend that much on brakes so I decided to go with z32/R32 brakes instead.

A friend of mine was changing his car setup for drag racing and his Z brakes didn't clear his whiles. However my 180sx ones did. So I bought his front brakes and he took mine. They're r32 GTS 30mm aluminum calipers. Same as z32.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/694/32688925965_acafb7f882_c.jpg

I knew I wouldn't be happy installing them on my car in the conition they were in so I decided to sand them and give them a shot of caliper paint. I opted to go with VHT Gold caliper paint after seeing it on a few cars on here... I know they're not Brembos :(

First Coat after primer

A few coats later, left to dry for a week before I could spray the clear coat (As per the can lol).

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/566/31876621073_88713c222d_c.jpg

For some reason the Nissan logo on one of them was heavily scored. No idea why. I sanded off the paint on the lettering before spraying the clear so the letters can be nicely sealed.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/369/32536164012_c90c26a000_c.jpg[/url]

Cleared them a week later. They turned out pretty nice!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/270/31845996684_49c6b724e9_c.jpg

Now that the fronts were all ready I needed to figure out what to do with the rear. I always told myself that I didnt want to go through the hassle of changing the rear setup to z32 with the ebrake, but I also didn't like the idea of non matching brakes front to rear and the look of stock 240 rear brakes are awful.

Lucky enough I found a guy parting out an R32 GTR and scored the rear setup pretty cheap.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/496/31876623883_50138b576b_c.jpg

Those were painted gold to match the front as well. I cleaned the Nissan logo and clear coated over it all just like the fronts, but I don't have a pic of that for some reason.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/734/31846031814_fe6bcb5d5e_c.jpg

The only thing holding me back to install them was that I needed a drivers side front wheel bearing. I picked one up and had a friend of mine press it into my conversion hub. I also picked up some new slotted rotors and pads since a local shop had them on sale. I opted for the zink coated rotors that were electromagnetically coated black. (The special offered them at 2$ more so I said why not!) The rotors look weird to me all black but the black will be scrubbed off the first time the pads squeeze them. It will leave the hub section black and thats the part that I like.

Old 180sx vs new z32

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/542/31876626653_4d5e97e9f7_c.jpg

I installed them along with my new bearing this past weekend.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/674/32309872330_c7d8ca2dae_c.jpg

The fronts looked pretty cool on the car. It'll look much better once the rotor is clean silver tho. Like I mentioned earlier the rears will be installed once the weather warms up. At the same time I will swap the 2 way in with the car being in the air.

Major update coming next stay tuned!

Thanks,

Joe.

Let's continue this,

In the mist of doing the brakes, i decided to clean up that nasty looking wastegate. I took it apart and the insides looked brand new so that was a relief.

I don't have any good before pics, but you can see how it looked in some of the early engine pics I posted. Here's the after:
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/587/31633842881_e5b056d4e6_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/664/32309787570_2e454de12d_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/334/32648270886_f5f9caaa9f_c.jpg

I'm very happy how it turned out.

After that I got really annoyed waiting for my heat sleeve to arrive as it was almost 3 months. I requested a refund from the seller and got it the next day. To my surprise I was able to source out heat sleeve from a local hydraulics shop near my house. It actually was cheaper than ebay, but unfortunately only came in orange. At the time I didn't really care as I just wanted to get the car running. (I originally ordered black on ebay).

I spent that week in the cold garage mounting up the turbo side of the motor. Here is the turbo oil feel line I made with the Aeroquip fittings and braided line.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/651/32648302546_f43bd53086_c.jpg

I then continued to cover everything with heat sleeve. My goal was to cover any line close to the manifold. This included; oil feed, power steering lines, clutch line, oil drain etc.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/623/31846004324_a78e92144a_c.jpg

I also made a turbo support bracket out of the old Greddy bracket that came with the top mount manifold.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/636/32688819835_ba3effd949_c.jpg

Intake bolted, and downpipe wrapped with titanium heat wrap in hopes to not boil my BMC lol. More heat prevention on that later.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/423/32648204836_ca1ce98a47_c.jpg

All done! All the lines were hooked up and fluids filled. Dont mind the vacuum line going across the motor. My old wastegate was located near the firewall so now it wasn't long enough to reach the new Greddy position. I'll be getting a proper one soon and tucked away nicely.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/425/32648202746_1c8aaa7c21_c.jpg

You get a good idea of how the turbo is mid-mounted in this pic. Its not fully a top mount style setup. I think it looks pretty neat.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/528/32566737101_19eb65b0ec_c.jpg

To conclude, the engine fired up right away! I primed the motor before firing and let it run for a good 30 minutes or so afterward. It seems to run pretty well. The timing is way off with the PFC not in sync with the mechanical timing of the engine. I've been playing with that a bit but have struggled to find a balance. (There's a vid of the startup on my instagram)

It has been pretty cold here so I'm waiting for the roads to clean up and weather to get warmer so I can get it tuned.

In the meantime I drove the car out to the street yesterday to flip it the other way around in the garage. It was the first time under its own power. Also the first time since August that I've drove it wooo! ahah

Now I'll have more accessible room to swap the diff and start working on the rear caliper and E brake conversion.

That's all for now, thanks,

Joe.

Alright time to continue because someone on Instagram yelled at me to update this thread lol (I don't know who you are!)

I waited awhile for the weather to warm up once the car was up and running. We had some warmer days here and there so I began to prep the new dif to go in. I wire brushed and sprayed the rear dif cover. Got oil and filled it up.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2845/34142547536_5ac4c48e92_c.jpg

Here it in installed.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2899/34142568286_231fe64a18_c.jpg

At the same time I began working on the rear brakes and z32 e brake. I bought new pads and rotors for the rear to match the fronts.

The brake swap was done easily as most of you would know. The e brake on the other hand turned into a nightmare.
I bough the full drum setup from a local and was sold as a "complete kit." As soon as I brought it home i noticed the e brake cables had a vertical mount instead of the factory flat mount.. turns out they were 2 seater cables not 2+2 as I was told. The seller told me that he used them on his car prior and the worked fine. Since I was in the middle of the swap and didnt want to wait/ source new cables I decided to try and install them.

The cables were such a tight fit that I had to route them on an angle across the floor board rather than the proper way in the driveshaft tunnel. The next stage of the nightmare was making a mounting bracket. I had a thick piece of L shaped steel that I cut and grinned to mount up. This took much longer than expected and left little room to actually bolt the cables to it. I finished the bracket and noticed since it was an L shape it was pulling the T on the handbrake pretty low almost touching the driveshaft. I said screw it and put the car down to test it out. Driving around the block i tested the e brake by slightly pulling on it in 1st gear. When I did so a loud bang could be heard and felt in the rear of the car. That cant be right. Also the car wouldn't roll down the driveway in neutral and almost impossible to push.

I figured the cables were to tight, so back on stands the car went. I readjusted the rear drums and retested the handbrake. Again the same bang and resistance. Being fed up now I told the guy the cables were no good and returned them for my money back. I decided to not mess around anymore and ordered new 2+2 cables from frsport. When those came i was able to make my own conversion bracket instead of spending 50$ on an ebay one. It turned out pretty good I think.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2851/34025788242_4067ce4b04_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2921/33798823050_ed9829ca2a_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2881/33372061393_e5362859c8_c.jpg

Here it is with the cables mounted. I added a bend in it to better clear the driveshaft.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2903/34183120955_ea457811e5_c.jpg

This still wouldn't have solved the banging issue, so upon some research I learned that I had the thinner drum anchor. This caused it to pivot when pulling the e brake and band aground in the rotor. I saw most people made a spacer to space the anchor out so that what I did.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2881/33372042663_f7408ed434_c.jpg

At the same time I had a friend make up some eccentric lock out washers for my rear subframe. They turned out perfect and I didn't have to pay the ridiculous 100$ that these retailers ask.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2890/33340705694_8b2a8d3060_c.jpg

Tested the car out around the block and it worked perfect. No banging clunking or anything.

Around that time I needed to figure out a way to preserve my BMC from the heat of the turbo/downpipe.
Most people said to ceramic coat the housing or get a turbo blanket. I'm not a big fan of the look of either option and I have always loved how the Japanese guys use a metal curved heat shield. The TRUST one was my ideal choice, but again I felt like 100$ for a thin curved metal part wasn't worth it. I've seen guys on the supra forums make heat shields out of stainless pots so I gave it a go.

I found my pot at Walmart for 8$. It turned out pretty nice if I'd say so.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2863/33372036763_b65618195b_c.jpg

I also ordered a BMC heat shield and cut it to fit around my turbo shield.

The next step was the tune. I booked it for last Thursday. I was pretty nervous about it having had so many problems with the last motor. I didnt really care about power numbers but just wanted it to hold together. Also I was driving the car there untuned (about 20 min).

I made it in one piece!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2928/34025760092_a4539a3c87_c.jpg
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2949/33372034533_1b11760e2c_c.jpg

Everything went well with the tune. The motor ran healthy and pulled strong. One problem we encountered was that the clutch (Exedy stage 2) slipped once we hit 300wtq. This was at 15lbs. The motor and turbo had a lot more in it but we were restricted. Playing with the timing a bit we ended up with 325 WHP and 300WTQ at 16lbs. I'm pretty happy with these numbers. More than enough to smoke some tires. Once I burn this clutch up I will be swapping to an ORC clutch and possibly throwing in some cams to wake it up.

I spent the following days, cleaning up the interior and putting together the exterior of the car.

It feels really good having the car fully together again. It also pulls really hard! I havent gone crazy with it yet as I'm on temp stickers.
I'm currently trying to figure out a way to get this thing to pass emissions test.

Thanks for reading!

A bit of an update here.

So I have been trying to drive the car as much as possible this year since I missed so missed so much time last summer. The car has been driving great and I take it to work mostly on all the sunny days.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4156/33801567523_24ed1b63c1_c.jpg

I had the opportunity to be featured with a bunch of friends in the new "Japan Special" Edition of PASMAG.
The photos turned out great and its cool to actually see your own car in a magazine. The mags should be on new stands this week I've been told. If anyone wants to check one out. You can also order one from their website.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4126/35737518255_ccff96eba8_c.jpg

Two weeks ago our group of friends set up a private skid pad day to mess around. I had been prepping the car the weeks prior to make sure I didn't have any mishaps like last year.

I also picked up a set of SSR Agle Strusses that I'll be using as drift spares. I've always wanted a set since Kawabata's black 180 looked so cool with them.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4081/35349810510_9fdd2433b2_c.jpg

I also have a full set of AVS Model V's that ill be using as track rims to save the TEs. I have new Zestion's on the front model v's and evergreens on the rears.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4076/35606182111_b78abf4332_c.jpg
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4083/35349809620_c4c73ac031_c.jpg

The car drove great on the 2 hour hike to the track. Swapped out my rear TEs for AVS and hit the track!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4256/35349806290_f094f19523_c.jpg
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4074/34896274164_0f988b3866_c.jpg

First lap in no brakes! Pedal too the floor. Great! My first lap kill again....

Checked it out and the drivers brake line (braided soft line) blew clean off the hard line coming out of the engine bay. Took a few hour to piece together an old brake line and some hard line to make it work with the z32 calipers. But the car was back derivable around 2pm (rental ended at 5). I was a bit bummed that most of my day had been used up fixing the car as it seems like I always have bad luck.

After a timid first few laps to make sure the brakes didnt explode, I felt better and got more aggressive with my driving. It was my first official time drifting (besides some parking lot skids with a stock KA) and I think I did pretty well.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4256/35551823635_5ff11c1c84_c.jpg

The motor felt amazing and the TD06 midmount made all the right noises!
There's a vid on my instagram.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BVvlhCcFqdR/?taken-by=jpacione

Towards the end of the day my steering rack started feeling sluggish so I decided to stop so I can drive the car home in one piece. Checked it at home and my rack seals were toast. I ended up getting a good used rack from a friend and swapped it out along with a new front brake line this week.

I just got the car down on the ground this Monday and finally gave it a wash.

Many you have probably seen already but right after the wash is when I began the new look for the car. I had been planning this for a long time. Ever since I decided to paint it blue.

So happy with how it turned out. My friend Mitch made the renders for it with all my collection of detailed logo pics ahah. And big shout out to Damon for helping me bring together all the little details to make the design perfect.

One of the best things that came out of this happened last night. After sharing the new photo of my car on instagram someone forwarded the picture to Teruaki Itai. He left this message with the image. I was able to contact him and chat about the car. He said he was "Very surprised and excited to see it." Sure, they were 17x9j +11 and 18x10j +25 thats after a 25mm spacer front and 15mm rear spacer. Rear camber is around -1.5 to -2 degrees. 215/40 zestinos front and 225/40 burners for rear.

Since you guys got me into the mood, I'll write a brief update.

So at the last update I finished the Itai vinyl. I thoroughly enjoyed the car for the rest of the summer and continued to go to a few more drift events until the winter came.

As winter approached like many of us I began to get the car blues and contemplate changing this up. After the vinyl I quickly grew bored of it. It kept being a constant reminder that the style of my car wasn't truly "My car" and more of Itais car. More than that I felt like I had reached a peak with it and that I could't change anything to make it better. It came to the point that I didn't even want to add a friends team sticker on the car bc Itai's car didn't have that.

I pondered heavily the idea of parting it out and starting new with a s13 silvia or s15. To try something new and make it my own. But as most of you would feel with your own builds that you put so much time and effort into it that I couldn't just dismantle it and sell it off. So I decided to ditch the Itai rep and change this up to suit my evolving taste.

I have always loved the 2003-2006 D1 and D1SL cars and have always wanted to own a car "as cool as" that one day. So I had decided to start evolving the look of my car to that style.

Within the first few weeks that the car was put away I sold off my bronze TE37s to my friend Liam (white uras ER34) and bought a set of Blitz 03's from my good buddy Nick (Kawika8413 on instagram). 03s have always been my favorite wheels so I knew I had to own a set one day. I will never be getting rid of these.

I also had decided to ditch the Kakimoto canister style exhaust as I've always preferred dual tip exhausts on 180's. I was lucky enough to source my favorite exhaust a Trust DD in near new condition. However it was for a R32 coupe. After comparing images and speaking to many people it seemed like the R32 exhaust was "close enough" to the same shape as an s13 one so I bought it.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4751/26355134968_cffe6ab980_c.jpg

I also sold off my hurricane mirrors and bought a set of Ganadors.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4621/39516740314_98750b2a9f_c.jpg

The Trust DD, ganadors and 03s were going to change up the look of the car enough until my new kit was painted. So when I rolled around in the spring the car looked like this for awhile.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1947/29977085757_0f4949ec51_c.jpg

I also ended up selling my AVS model 5's to fund my other favorite wheels.. white TE37s. I knew there was no way I was building a early D1 spec car without white TEs. I found a full set of 17x9.5j and 18x9.5 +12 that I couldn't pass up.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4698/39516740424_1d23a0ecae_c.jpg

IN addition, after completing a full drift season and developing my skill I felt like I was ready to add some steering angle to my car. After looking at and comparing different options I talked to Julian from Animal Style and he was able to hook me up with Naoki B-knuckles. I also extended my s13 lca's 25mm and installed maxima tie rods. This gave me plenty of angle and the car feels amazing to drive/drift.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4515/24891551198_7b884edde7_c.jpg

After the car came out of storage I got to work on installing the new front steering bits and exhaust. The exhaust turned out to be a bit more off than expected and had to get some custom work done to it in order to fit how I wanted too. I also found out that r32 Trust DD has two 4 inch tips on it compared to the 3 inch s13 versions. These things were huge and made it a massive PITA to fit with the Hotroad rear valence.

Anyways I got all the front end sorted and exhaust and went drifting.

Picking up where I left off.

After doing my first drift event this summer I was still waiting for my new kit to be painted.

I had purchased the kit over the winter and had started fitting it as soon as the car came out of storage.

Sticking with my liking to early D1 and cars from 2005-6 generation I decided to try out some "big" aero and go with a Uras Type 4 "style" kit. Since I wasn't completed sure how I would like the look and I wanted to keep hotroad I decided to go with a rep kit as I didn't want to sink over 2k in fiberglass that I wasnt sure I'd keep.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4719/39516759864_ac90b9d808_c.jpg

Surprisingly the sides fit really well and only required minimal trimming. However the rear stuck out a mile and the front was missing about an inch of material on each side and had no mounting points. Therefore I had to do a lot of fiberglass work to make things fit.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1924/44483368294_a7bdce175c_c.jpg

I also decided to pick up a set of origin labo 20mm single vent front fenders. Jesse was able to order these and ship them from Japan for me in under a week! He's the man.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1961/30265930387_cae2fc1a39_c.jpg

I did not like the shaved side marker look, so I cut the oem ones in place.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1961/30265930427_f6ab084e48_c.jpg

Then it was all sent off to paint. Which always takes way longer than expected. This time it was close to 4 months. (These pics were from the first week the car was out of storage).

After I finally got the kit back from paint I immediately started installing it on the car. Right away I noticed the colour was way off...

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1963/30266142527_20282d71b3_c.jpg
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1974/30266142667_9e7e57b3e5_c.jpg

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1934/30266142947_3ef760fc83_c.jpg

The colour turned out way darker and on the purple side than what my bayside blue was. I stopped installing the kit and reached out to my painter. Obviously he denied it being wrong as he said "thats the colour code you gave me." This is besides the fact that I had told him more than once before he painted that I could bring in some painted parts that he could use to match the colour. He always said to me don't worry it will match. I knew I couldn't drive the car around like this so I got into contact with the guy who originally painted my car a few years ago and dropped off all the parts to him that day.

After some arguing with the other painter I was able to get 200$ back but still was in the hole for having to repaint it.
This time the colour came out perfectly.

I also installed my white Te's to complete the look.

Not too sure exactly. Could have been a different manufacture or even the way it was painted. Bayside blue is a tri-coat so I've been told the amount of time you flash in between layers affects the finished colour.

lol I only own the whites TE's and Blitz 03s right now. These most likely will be the wheels I will always keep.
