so on the swap im doing i've been told the d21 trans has the shifter in my factory shifter position. I know the d21 also were KA. Does anyone know how much power the d21 trans can handle? I don't want to cut the shifter hole back if i don't have to.
also anyone know the spline count between the d21 and sr20 transmissions?

Friend of mine has an S12 with an sr20 swap and D21 transmission. The case itself is smaller than the sr20 transmission, so one would assume that they wouldn't hold as much power. Should be fine on a stock sr20. The gears are shorter as well so you'd have increased acceleration but lower top speed potential. The splines are the same.

thanks for the info. I was torn between the two choices. #1 use the D21 trans and keep my shifter in stock position without cutting much but i don't see these transmissions too often so if it ever goes out not sure if i'd be S.O.L. #2 use the SR trans, cut the shifter hole but not have to worry about it. I plan to keep it relatively stock but trying to be in the 200-250whp range if possible. I'm not going for crazy power so I can daily it but have fun on the weekends.

You could try a dog left shifter or something so that it still sits in the same area maybe.

I read this as dog leg transmission and got super excited.
