View Full Version : Question about noise from AGX

I just installed AGX on my S13. The ride feels fine, nothing feels loose or anything. I got new tires and pillowball T/C rods at the same time.
I got the Eibach ProKits. The ride is great. When I take bumps a slow speeds there is a sort of clank noise from the front. It doesn't sound horrible, but strange...
I checked and nothing is loose. Could it be something else clanking due to the stiff suspension up front? I do have a coolant reservoir up front in the driver's side area where the air resonator used to be.
Anyone have any past experiences with this type of problem?

I got the same setup: AGX + ProKit. As you know, Prokit's are progressive springs, because of this they are more likely to be noisy, that's why they sell those coil silencer, some kind of plastic spring you wrap around the coil.
I've personnaly never tried it. I'm supposed to get them next week. I've got that clanking comming from the back.

My creaks and groans over bumps, too. Nothing is loose. I thought something was going dead (ie. worn out bushings).
But, this makes me think that the springs may be to blame. I don't know how a spring could squeak, though, but I guess they can.
PS: AGX + ProKit

you guys sure you're not just hearing the hydraulic "squeaky" noise of the dampers themselves? AGX's are fairly noisy...

Could be. I'm no suspension expert, by any means...

no it's no "squeak", it's a tight "clank" sound... difficult to explain...
I figure I give it a while to settle in and then I'll see if everything is seated correclty and whatenot...

make sure yuo've retained all necessary bushings from the stock suspension. I put AGX's on my s14 and got clanks in the rear...its be cause i forgot to put on some bushings.

What kind of bushing are talking about? Do you need extra bushing than just the stock ones?

check your tie rod ends and front sway bar end links. I have a similar clunking in my front suspension: RSR race springs + AGX. I'm going to replace my outer tie rod ends with MOOG parts. If that doesn't work, new end links are next.
I got the same setup: AGX + ProKit. As you know, Prokit's are progressive springs,.
i alwayd thinkeded dat de pro kit was teh linear won

no they're progressive. I've heard that the noise is because of that fact. The clanking over speed bumps is caused by the coils being close together at certain parts of the spring.

clanking on springs/struts is usually the springs (providing everything else is tight).
Clanking/clunking on coilovers are usually the springs floating....this can also happen on springs/struts if wheels come off the ground.
