Trans shifted fine for a good few months but all of a sudden, I lost reverse and then 2nd and 4th slowly started going. I can't get into reverse no matter what I do, here's the list of thing's I've tried:
double clutching
shifting into first, then going to reverse
rolling forward a little then go into reverse,
trying to force it into gear while working the clutch
I pulled the shifter out the trans and looked down into where it sits, didn't see anything blocking it from going up...Is this a common problem?

Hmm, if changing the transmission didnt fix it you probably need more blinker fluid.
I swapped in a bum transmission tryna replace the busted one. I feel your pain. Whys it so hard to find a good trans?

These transmissions are really simple inside

There are only about 9 little tiny pez shaped pieces/springs. the rest is large rings, bearings/rollers, gears, shafts and bushings, stuff you can zip tie together for peace of mind.
losing 2nd and 4th, only makes sense if the shaft itself moves, or something happened to the striker arm (lever that connects to shifter). As you can see in the pic, 2nd and 4th are separate gears. If you "lose" 2nd, you should lose first. and 3+4.

these transmissions have a well known flaw (to those in the business I guess), in those with synchronized reverse apparently the 5th gear fork commonly breaks. They make thousands of them (mass production) because this trans is also used in alot of other vehicles (some trucks) and the same fork is breaking all the time. Thanks to the mass prod of aftermarket forks, the price is fairly low, around $30
