Hi, my car is leaking alittle from the bottom of the engine, I found out its "the carter" somebody says thats what it is called, I bought the gasket, filter, and oil and I was ready to do it, but then I found out ist a bea**c to take out, many screws plus trasnmission brakets on the way, does anybody know a easy way to take the whole thing out? what makes it difficult is that I have two little ramps, one jack stand, and one jack... and its a SOHC... any suggestion? please!

Your gonna need more than that. The easiest way is to unbolt the motor mounts, use a cherry picker to lift the engine just enough to unbolt the pan. As for the gasket, you use RTV. Good luck man. I hope you have a friend with a cherry picker. Be careful with the motor mount bolts. Soak those pieces of shit in a load of WD-40 because they are notorious for not wanting to come off. Your gonna need a universal to get to one of them as well. It would be nice if you had an impact too.

it seems easier, the thing is that I first tried taking the transmission brakets out but one of the bolts is...mmm.... bad, but if I do what U say do I still have to take those out right? or how much would a mechanic charge for that?

Yeah, you should take off the tranny cross member so as to free up some movement to allow the engine to lift and tilt back some. I would think that a mechanic would probably charge around 3 hours of labor, maybe less so prolly around $100-$150.

You may also be able to do it by removing the motor mount bolts and jacking up the engine by the front of the tranny. Maybe loosen the transmission crossmember bolts a little to allow the engine to tilt. This might be something you could accomplish with what you got. Just be careful not to let the engine drop.

Did it twice in the last week and I need to do it one more time. You unbolt the top of the engine mounts, put a jack under the front of the tranny, REMOVE front Sway bar, the Remove the two Tranny braces, unbolt the pan and change the gasket, or use RTV.

i looked at a chilton manual.... it told me everything i needed to know.... make sure tho (this is the part i got stuck on) take off the bolts to the power steering tube... but dont take off the lines cuz you'll see sum stuff comin out.... but basically what i did was drop the whole crossmember down and had the crossmember sit on a jack(basically the crossmember was completely off... using air tools can make things go a lot faster... it took me 3 days to figure it out... good luck man
