View Full Version : RPM signal off the ecu

I'm hooking up a data logger that requires 5v to trigger the RPM pickup, I've got the logger hooked up to the Yellow and Red wire (2) on the ECU according to the FSM. At idle I read .9 volts or so off that wire...not enough to trip the logger. Is there another RPM wire in the car with higher voltage I can use?

IIRC Yellow/Red Stripe is the speedo (not tach) signal wire.

I might be wrong. You're pretty smart I don't think you'd mess up. I do distinctly remember it being the speedo signal wire tho. The tach is a different wire.

What kind of datalogger you got foo?

When it comes to wires I'm not smart at all. There are like 3 or 4 Yellow wires with red stripes coming out of the ECU, number 2 according to the FSM goes directly to the Tach.

Oh sorry. DL1 from race technology. It monitors G forces, speed, rpm, and whatever else you can fit on a 1v-12v signal.

Nope. Yellow/red is tach, yellow/green is VSS.

The tach signal is generated from the CMPS, or the CAS on SRs, and goes straight to the ECU, so you may need to amplify the signal to use it.

WHOOPS! Thanks for clarifying, Russ.

thx247 has a KA.

hmm, dont mind me, but on the sr which wire coming off the cas would i be able to tap into to get a tach signal.

Did you read this thread at all?

Yellow/red.

aright scuuse me , theres no need to get all smart with me.

Well I never got the RPM pickup off of the ECU working right. I dont have a scope to see the voltage spikes so I have no idea why its not working. I ended up using the high tension RPM input which is a wire off of a spark plug using an inductive pickup. (IE, wire wrapped around the plug wire)

HIGH TECH!

Also got a TPS sensor hooked up. I should be able to do water temp and oil pressure once I figure out what the voltages off of those sensors mean.
